Panasonic ST30 Owners Thread

I just ordered a ST50 TV, and I just need to know one thing. Is it necessary to run slides to age the phosphors?

ST50 ?! yikes !

typo, right ?! ;)

no its not necessary, but many recommend doing this. even i would suggest. it helps enhancing the overall PQ

if you cant wait to watch TV content, what you can do is just choose a TV mode with lower than 50 settings, and watch TV, and ensure that you dont let any logo (esp. a 'solid' one, unlike a transparent logo) stay on the screen for more than, say 2 hrs. and then at night, you could keep running the slides till early morning. if you game too, i would suggest holding on for that for the first 200-250 hrs. and yes, no need to be over-concerned about all this ;)

P.S. - Welcome to HFV by the way :)

the consensus is that it is better to get the battery operated glasses over rechargeable ones, as once the life of the battery is over u can not replace the battery. even rechargeable cells have a finite life. havet actually seen the rechargeable glasses myself. i got the battery ones with my 50vt20d

well, i am planning to use it with my laptop just to play games, this will also create burn in?

if your TV is new, and if you've yet completed atleast 200 hrs of safe TV viewing (ie, at low contrast and brightness mode) or usage of break-in slides/procedure, then please refrain from playing games for the time being. after this time, you can play games without any worry, but preferably in 'zoom' mode for some time, and then later on you can game in jacked up settings (if you feel the need) without absolutely any problem (assuming you arent like one of those americans who spend atleast half of their day in the virtual world; even then i think it shouldnt be a problem ;) ). atleast thats what i did, and doing, on my VT20 :D

P.S. - my TV shows a notification on the duration of playing every 30 mins. most probably the ST30 would also show you that.

the tata sky logo shouldnt be bothersome, though on some channels the logo isnt transparent. but i havent seen the image being retained on the screen yet. but yes, some of the logos, like of the news channels, and channels like aastha, etc., i at times see the logo being retained on the screen, when i switch off the TV and move really close to see. but thats there for just a few minutes, and when i again switch on the TV after sometime, its clean and pristine as ever. to say, you could see image-retention at times, which will pass-off quickly (or you could even use the brilliant options of pixel-orbiter, screensaver and what-have-you in the ST30) but you wont see burn-in happening with our kind-of normal usage.

- Just activated Star Cricket HD and ESPN HD on ADTV , looks stunning. But yes , motion problem is somewhat visible due to 50Hz material :(

-As for gaming , let the set cross 200 hours + and even then i would advice you to use "Scrolling bar" after 2-4 hours of gaming and let it run for 20 minutes , just to be safe.

- As for image retention , yes as seeker said it will vanish , but mine (ADTV LOGO) was visible with black background for somedays , I had to run scroll bar and full zoomed channels for weeks to remove it . But , It is not BI , i dont think its IR either , it just sticks there . It wont affect your normal viewing in any way , i mean not like BI , it will show up while you watch movies.

Yeah, it was a typo haha.

Thanks for the reply. And one more thing, I just got the TV today, and asked Panasonic to send a guy for installation. Should I do the installation myself? I mean is it simple?

one word of caution, set over scanning on in picture settings, cause i have seen my xbox360,and some channels not filling entire tv screen area ,the edges were just black.. it can cause uneven break-in of phosphor

Yeah, I saw. It says 11 hours. I think that's accurate. Just watching full screen movies now. Dying to play some games though :( But I'll wait a bit for that.

Great inputs!!!
I may have been living under a rock and didnt hear about HiFiVision.. untill a friend (tired after me reaching out to him for feedback) ;) suggested i dig here.
While a Plasma was the preffered choice, i have been pushed towards the LCD/LED direction by a lot of people.
Have to thank you guys for all the info... booked my 42ST30 yesterday which will be delivered once my TV unit (custom made :)) is complete.(7th)
btw - got it for 57k with the glasses.
Thank you all !!!!!:clapping:

He must've meant about custom-made TV stand.

BTW, congrats anil !

Hey Van - One pair of glasses.
Bought it from Devi International, Jayanagar.
The TV Unit - I am getting a wall unit done as per specs of this TV. :) thats it

Also can someone help me understand the power consumption of this TV? Says 300 W, but i believe it is averaged out for Plasma when compared to LCD/LED.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
