Panasonic ST30 Owners Thread

when I check my v20d in the dark room I see lots of IR with diff logos on the right top corner. But I dont see that has any impact on the picture when start watching TV!.
BTW this one is a display piece bought from cromm which has run for 1000 hrs on 100% contrast (dynamic mode). Still able to have only strong IR of ESPN logo which I think start vansihing after I started using at my home. I think all the IR you see at dark room with TV switch off are temporary!. If The abused TV like mine can still give a excellent PQ you guys dont need to worry abt this IR at all in my opinion.

@Srih very good insight....IR to Burn in ratio- now a days seems to be very minimal or rare....hope for the best...btw for how much did you buy the display piece?

Ya its the airtel logo at bottom which can be seen in black background light switched off when we see from very close to tv, when lights on is hard to notice. Hope its temporary IR.

Temporary IR is possible but permanent burn in risk is only in extreme cases. So really no need to worry. Just watch as many movies as possible :) . Also use 3D as much as possible. 3D give tremendous activity to the phosphors and removes all residual images and also you can almost NEVER get IR while watching 3d content and even playing 3d games with static hud.

But one really concerning matter is the DTH logo. In theory if the same logo is there for all channels, then it means same static matter in all images on the screen.

And if it exceeeds 70% of the time you watch tv and if you keep on doing it for months together then a slight risk of burn in of the small area of the logo exists.

But one sure shot way of avoiding burn in is to run scrolling EVERY NIGHT for an hour atleast . That will wash away the residues of the IR.

I have started using scrolling bar which is in samsung D490 for breaking in first 100 hours . Is it good?

Thanks .. the last part was the real concern for me..whatever we do after burn-in period , we need to settle down to usual content. which involves logos .

I am planning to write to airtel DTH to make the logo animated and transparent. and also keep shifting it..

airtel DTH logo changes as per the channel we see. But same channel for hrs then logo will be at the same place. It looks like a transparent logo to me.
BTW I dont see any scroll options with My p42v20d!.

Ya. Be careful about it. But worst case just run the scrolling for an hour at night . That will protect you from permanent burn in.

good idea....but in our normal lives, it is difficult to run scrolling for one hour every night...we have more imp things to worry abt....
i hope even without that we dont have burn in on our plasmas..
i guess Videocon D2h has the most transparent logo....and offer most HD channels...(without black bars)....

Since you are comparing a Plasma and LED , i think its better that you decide on the basis of your need.

I can reply from my experience , and it was with samsung D550 , and samsung LED`s , which i happened to demo in banglore.

LED`s are bright , no doubt about it , but clarity wise D550(plasma) shined .

Plasma`s give life like color and has better clarity than LED`s . So if you have a controlled room , ie thick screens and no direct window facing the TV , then i would recommend you go for a Plasma.

From the experience thus far , I dont think LED`s can compete with Plasma`s clarity.

But Plasma`s dont have that brightness if you are fond of it.

Again , Please do a demo and select which suites your taste.

Till last month I was owning an LCD and now a plasma...
according to me...you "Cannot" compare LED model and Plasma model...
both provide completely "different experience".....demo them, go for the one that looks good to your eyes..PS: i have realized PQ will look different in home and in showroom lighting....so gauge that factor as well...
now technically-
If you are found of bright, unrealisticly dynamic colours(i was ), watch news channels for more than 6 hours a day...dont mind the artifacts in fast moving scenes on leds...have big windows in front of tv go for leds....

If you want better black levels and watch lot of action movies and sports which require good motion flow....want more natural contrast and colors..and better SD clarity(HD clarity is good in both now a days)..watch lot of movies...go for plasma...

hope this help you....

i had this same dilemma, till last month...now i have to say i have started enjoying plasma "experience", watching sports and movies on plasma is far Superior experience than on leds....in my opinion leds look very good ostensibly, but once you buy them and over a period of time you will realize their limitations in terms of technology...

Hey Naveen, Dont generalize Hx925 with other LEDs. Hx925 is a local dimming highest end sony.

It is one heck of a TV and beats ST30 hands down in black levels. 50Hz motion is better too.

ST30 beats the Hx925 only in viewing angles and slightly better colours. (D550, hands down in colours).

So buying criteria should depend on position of windows and the lower size of the TV comparatively given similar pricing. You cant go wrong with either.

But I strongly suspect that you can get them at the same price and then there is "No warrenty" vs 3 year warrenty to be worried about. If your grey market TV goes kaput in a year, 1L goes down the drain.

Thanks Guys for your suggestions.

Finally decided to go with 50ST30D :yahoo::yahoo:. Don't want to take a risk buying in grey market ... Will probably book it this weekend :ohyeah:

BTW any idea, where to get wall mooting where you can pull the TV towards you?? I guess i might need it since the it would be difficult to add cable's later .( There is already wood work finished for the TV )

Very true.. I have p.s not demoed Hx925 or dont know much about it to be honest , I posted that reply from my experience as i said in that post.

Actually i was about to tell him to contact you for advice.. kind of missed it somewhere while posting that..

Thanks for all your input guys.

no one I know of tried slide breakin here. many just keep setting below 50 and make sure there is no static image, logo or black bordered movies are played in the first 200 hours

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
