Panasonic ST30 Owners Thread

But one thing for sure is 50Hz / 1080i materials have serious problem with ST30 . Could be problem with VT30 too.. not sure.

Yes. I have mentioned it elsewhere. Known issue which panasonic claims as "feature".

1) Motion is not very smooth
2) The horizontal movement of faces shows green/blue/red seperated and looks like inhuman.

None of the above is seen in 60Hz and 24Hz.

Apart from this, the green cast issue in VT20 where faces look more green (in all signals). That is fixable by tuning white balance. Iam not sure if it is carried over to the ST30.

Your panel shows uneven green patches which is not a normal issue. I have seen threads in AVforums where people got their sets replaced because of the patches. Will post the thread if I come accross.

Edit: Here it is. http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-tvs/1482291-green-tinge-fault-panasonic-vt30-gt30-st30.html

no the the image is from avforums only , i searched for the issue to know how it really looks. I tried to find such blobs of green on the screen in movie , i couldnt find any.

Yes very true.. horizontal tearing is soo much .

But 1080i is , imo a horrible format for HD. interlacing never gives a smooth image.

It is not an 1080i issue. (Or any 'i' issue)
I have set the Airtel STB to output 720p and it is still there.

It is clearly a 50Hz issue.

Surprisingly, I felt 720p is better than 1080i in other departments though.

Can you provide the service menu path? Its not visible in firat glance?

1. Get into service menu(Keep 'VOL -' pressed + press recall thrice on remote)
2. press 2 twice - this will take ot to aging menu where you see screen filled with grey color
3. Keep pressing 3 or 4. You will see different colours/patterns and one of them is scroll bar.

@Blasto ,

is it true that the panel will settle better after initial 200 Hours or so ?

I feel the Blacks are now better ..

Mine hasn't reached 200 Hours.
I think YOU started viewing content instead of the TV itself. :)
No measured values though.

VT20 apparently produces worser blacks after ~160hrs and it is resolved in ST30.

Are you sure? And when it gets reduced after then? Also, have you tried the option I remember something like full RGB support for PC HDMI connection? I am most bothered about Panasonic Plasma's restriction of scaling down PC signals to 4:2:2 from original uncompressed 4:4:4.

Haven't seen it myself.. Checkout "Rising Black" issue in VT20..
Second time happens after 1500 hrs apparently.

The consensus is that, even after the blacks rised, it is the blackest TV around. But you can apparently 'preceive' the black raise if you measure it.

This is what I was told at 3 Croma outlets in Mumbai....infact in one outlet they were clearing last display piece at 39990..(note:I havent asked in any other store though)..i guess one more hifivision member has also mentioned this news...

i am still considering d490 as an option for its superbly low price for a 3d plasma...that too with 2 glasses 38-40k....

I havent touched gamma setting in service menu or for that case , service menu itself , except for the first time i entered to see the usage details

but i can say that when you pump up contrast to around 80 , the overall brightness is excellent and i would say , more than sufficient.

I saw a movie yesterday night , and it was almost comparable to theatre like brightness and contrast. with brighness on +1 and contrast around 48 .

Again i have to say , this is just my personal preference.

if you see the comparisons , ST30 has very good contrast ratio.

spotted damn airtel logo on my TV .. not sure whether its a IR or burn-in .. planning to run the scrollbar for as much hour as possible tomorrow to get it removed..

I am to blame ... should have zoomed in as much as possible...
