Pansonic XT50 owners thread

Hi All,
Went through the thread...very insightful. But am also a lil confused. My budget allows me to buy 50 inch XT50, which am getting for 61k in Mumbai. The HT offer is not there and i failed to check regarding the 3d Glasses. I have a Tata Sky HD connection and my viewing distance is ~12-13 feet. My question is will this HD Ready TV pixelate if am seeing HD/SD content as my office collegues are telling me that the viewing quality may not be good given the 1080 HD content and my 720 capable HD Ready TV and also bcos of the screen size. What do you gus suggest, should I go for this TV despite this concern. Please note that my viewing with mostly be SD/HD tata sky content and occasional 3D movie downloaded from the net. Also if anyone in Mumbai is aware of a better deal (than Rs61k) pls let me know.

Hi,

I also bought the TV last month @ 54K. Sadly the offer was not there then :(.

Also one HDMI input has stopped working(It was connected to a PC). I suspect a surge in the Power caused this (As both the HDMI port in the PC and the TV stopped working). I am currently using a HDMI splitter that I bought @ ebay.

Best

@ 61K - You would surely be getting 3D glasses & they come inside the box, 50XT50 MRP is 70k so 15% discount is on expected lines, I was getting similar price for it. The 50k offer is/was only at a store chain in Bangalore where amprasad has got it from. When i checked with other stores in delhi and around, no one was selling without glasses and HT offer is NOT there with 50XT50... I eventually brought 50UT50 which is full HD & came with HT as well.

My viewing habits are similar than yours (SD/HD etc) and at similar distance 14-16 ft and I am really enjoying the experience so far..

@rajatk
Why don't u share ur experience of ut50 with us?'cos I cant see any thread on ut5o.

I would like to do so but for my layman like experience, am no videophile to give objective reviews on PQ etc... Plus am still sorting out few things before I write one.

So, guys what do you suggest for XT50?
Gor or no go??

I get 42UT30 for the same price and 42ST30 for 60k.
Should I go for either or XT50 is good enough?

Thanks Rajatk, very helpful. But ur TV is Full HD...As XT50 is HD Ready, I had some concerns if there will be any pixelation. Else, am more or less frozen on 50XT50 and may buy it over the weekend. Will surely give a review after some usage (again am no videophile, so pls dont expect too much from the review). Also, are there any dos and donts on 1st usage after purchase. I read on some other forums of running some images for some hours. Is that required? Thanks

If there is a choice between XT50, UT50 and ST30, plus the price difference was not too great and within the budget, I would opt for the best model, i.e., ST30 anyday.

The ST30 is almost at par with the ST50. The difference is that ST50 has (slightly) higher contrast and 2500 Hz focused field drive. The ST30 has 600 Hz sub-field drive. Now honestly, I do not understand the real perceptable difference between the two. This is what it is said,
The new GT50 and VT50 NeoPDP ranges have a 2,500Hz Focused Field Drive, which increases the switching speed of the TVs lighting, minimising motion blur.

But how much can a user experience that? I am not an expert; so I cannot really say.

But by far the greatest disadvantage of ST30 is that the 3D glasses are IR based, not universally compatible, will have sync issues when line of sight is missing and very expensive. Another minor drawback is lack of built-in wifi and web browser. If these do not matter to you than ST30 should be your most logical choice.

If not ST30, then it is an even call between XT50 and UT50. Here the choice should be determined by how much real 1080p content you will watch. If you will watch a lot of blu-ray stuff then UT50, else XT50.

HTH.

OK. In the reply to above post, I misread UT30 as UT50.

Do not go for UT30. XT50 is way better than UT30.

I guess u've already seen E550.Can u compare it with UT50.In realistic terms how the PQ of both compare.

I have not seen 51E550 so I cannot compare. My reason for choosing UT50 over E550 was as follows:

1. Panasonic brandname for Plasmas especially 2012 range
2. 3 year extended warranty against 1 yr from Samsung which is very imp for Large displays - major reason.
3. Ability to see & demo UT50 which was taking time for E550 for quality comparison

Moreover HT offer suited me more than BDP as I am not going to watch many BDs anytime soon & neither was planning to buy HT separately - so liking the complimentary gift all the more.

Ofcourse ST30 is better than UT30 for same price and should edge out XT50 as well. However you may want to double check for demo piece.

Hi - my viewing taste is similar to yours. Mostly Tatasky HD with occassional downloads. Although thanks to the new TV and 3D capability I am watching more downloaded stuff - all 3D movies currently - but eventually it will be 95% tata sky.

there are innumerable reviews and opinion on viewing distances and TV screen size and everyone seems to say over 8-10 feet there is no discernible difference between 1080p and 720p and I can vouch for that since I have moved down from 46inch 1080p LCD to 50inch 720p there is no difference in picture quality except the differences between LCDs and Plasma. In fact currently watching eagles hell freezes over coz I wanted to hear how a DTS concert sounds like and its really great..this is DVD download I am watching and from 12-15 feet its not different from 1080p am sure - maybe 5-10% different at most if one can measure it.

So dont worry about 720p and 1080p - unless u watch blu rays all the time.

real life factors you might want to consider:

1) warranty - panasonic gives 3 year warranty of which only 2 years is for the panel which is the costliest part
2) if you buy 50XT there is no HT - but if ur buying other models evaluate between a HT vs 3D blu ray player.
3) Judder - although newer models dont seem to have them - test it yourself - based on a youtube video i understand judder is non-smooth flow motion - which i do experience sometimes..not sure if its because of the TV or because of the content...for example few minutes back there is this 3-4 minute content on Russia that is played on discovery HD as time filler..in that when they show aerial footage of forests and lake Baikal..I could clearly see the judder - maybe it was because of transmission faults.dont know
4) For me - I see water colors on the contours of human body in some videos - particularly two and half men recorded in HD
5) I got the 50XT50 for 50K in Bangalore METRO and they seemed to have plenty in stock - seems I am the only one who bought it there at that price.

Hope this helps

Thanx for the advise.

I am in a dilemma. I have zeroed in for following offers and have to choose one in my budget 60k to 70k.

Sammy 40EH6030+BDplayer+2 3D eyeware for 65k
Panny 42UT50+HX170 HT+2 3D eyeware for 65k
Panny 42ST30+HX170 HT+1 3D eyeware for 70k
warranty panny 3yrs others no idea.
Some body help in choosing the deal.
TV is for living room. Day light can be controlled by window curtains. Windows one at the side and other at the rear of the likely TV position. Room will be lit with normal CFL bulbs. Lot of opinions read on UT50 getting shaded in the daylight indoors. Personally inclined to panny.

Thanx in advance

By looks of things I am getting XT50 replacement...

Can I not get a refund..seems XT 50 has issues..I might rather go for ST30 or 50...Most likey ST30 as do not wanna spend much for a bed room TV

Wht do you suggest friends....

If you are getting a replacement then it will be 1=1. If you get an option of an alternate model, why not consider Ut50.

Congratulations. Although if companies agree for 1 to 1 (same piece) replacement then they usually do not change models even if you pay for difference, however you can still talk to them citing other friends also having similar issues with XT50. Anyways good that you are getting replacement atleast - also can you summarize the issues you faced that made you press for change? Dead pixel and...
