You are waaay late in the game.
If you are lucky, you can find few fresh pieces in mumbai.
Bangalore/Hyderabad/Chennai have only few demo pieces.
Group buy does not make sense as of now as there are not enough pieces inthe first place. :D

I never heard in the world of TV an brand called " Penny 50VT 20 "...

I think OP is making clear fun of everybody:p:p:p Captain of funny:):)

hi capt ! welcome to HFV :)

by any chance, are you a Master Mariner ?!

you could check for the VT20 at croma, bhayander(w). one of the members here got that TV from there a month or two back at a very good price. hope that helps.

I am a master mariner out at sea at the moment and was just checking out the latest deals on VT20.

Cheers

Then it is fine, i thought you are making fun of us by Putting "Pe(a)nny"..

I think almost for the festival fresh pieces would have gone out and only demo pieces will be back in the showroom. As Blasto indicated it Seems there is always an bad luck here for Group buys for some other reason it is failing:)

The name Penny to down play and let out my anger against the horrendous marketing strategies by Panasonic in India.
Look at the price drop on 50VT20 > more than 120000 in one year.
Obnoxious and hard to believe.
Imagine how a guy would be feeling now after reading all those 5 ***** reviews having bought this set for 2L a year back. This is really stupid on Panasonic and is high time they look into it rather than force out dated models to Indian consumers.
Latest 55VT30 is already available in US for USD 2499 with back lit remote and all the freebies. Check out Best buy US and I am still trying to look for a decent priced VT20 in Indian market.
I really appreciate Panasonic to have such nice sets in the market and still remain the undisputed king in the Plasma industry but to have such indiscrimination towards Indian consumer is hard to believe.
Its really frustrating letting out anger this way and hope sooner than later we also start getting the latest product launched in India with comparative pricing. This is the only way Panasonic will be able to hold grounds in India and elsewhere against much smarter players like the LGs and Samsungs or very soon they will be shutting shop.

Hmm I am not sure how you are comparing the price of VT30 55in as it is not really available in India... Anyway while browsing best buy US & amazon.com do chk out the prices of the smart players you mentioned like LG & Samsung TVs... Almost every tv available there is priced at much less than half the Indian price... Saying just panasonic is overpricing in India is just plain wrong... Each & every TV company is doing it... Also VT20 is last years model & it is pretty normal for companies to clear out last years models at throwaway prices... That's how folks like us get to grab great deals... So stop complaining & enjoy the discounts we are getting on this fantastic TV(unless you are one of the guys who bought this tv at 2lacs :p ... Then in that case complain to ur hearts content)...

oh....hello there 'buddha saab' ;)

absolutely no offense meant sir, but i guess you got the term :)

now since you would be signing-off in a few days, if you have some relative or friend who could book the TV on your behalf, or atleast go and talk to the salesperson, i would seriously recommend you to ask someone to do it, because if am not wrong, i read that now only 15-18 pieces of sealed VT20s are left all over india with croma (croma i think possesses now the maximum stock of fresh VT20s. other retailers have either exhausted their stock and selling used ones, or are on the brink of it).

a member here named GVRAVI had bought the VT20 from croma, bhayander(w). you could PM him for details, though i think he remains on tour for quite some time, so it could be a while before he replies.

and yes, panasonic's pricing strategies here have been discussed about (and lambasted) by our fellow members. they are soon going to launch the 50VT30 in india, but that could be priced for ~1.5L, and since they've already announced the VT50 at CES 2012, its quite possible that like VT20, they would make the prices of 50VT30 too crash down by diwali 2012 to 70-80k, dump this model, and bring the VT50 next year to india. so everytime there would be some of us feeling quite disappointed by panasonic's gameplay sadly :o

anyway, if you've decided to opt for the VT20, i would suggest you to request someone to talk to the croma guys to confirm a piece for yourself, and you as well could get in touch to GVRAVI. you would be all the more happy while disembarking then :ohyeah:

godspeed, and all the best !

I agree but not by such a huge margin > 200%.
Flipcart is still quoting 133000/ for this model.
I am not complaining but only feel sorry that we cant buy VT30 at
a decent price in India.

Thanks pal,

I am already checking out in Croma and other places in Mumbai and hoping to strike a good deal. Do let me know if you hear any good penny deals in town.
I would be coming from Singapore/Malaysia but buying from these countries such a monster and bringing to India would be quite a hassle with customs, excess baggage etc. I guess have to rely you guys on this.

Hi guys,

Just would like to know, how you all are using 250 GB/1TB hard drive to play movies on VT 20. I have a PS3 and i believe I can connect my WD hard drive using usb 2.0, before that i need to format my hard drive using partition magic or Fat 32 formatter, max size available would be in the first partition only abt 190 GB. Also there is a software by the name swissknife, which can be used to format the hard drive.

Also which software to use for 2D TO 3D conversion.
Refer below quote from Techtree review:
QUOTE
"For video, we tried Avatar using Cyberlink PowerDVD's 2D to 3D conversion feature, which actually does a good job. In the jungle scene from the movie, we could easily make out the depth in the picture. Again, things don't actually pop out of the screen like you see in commercials, but it's certainly one of the better 3D sets out there".
UNQUOTE
Just wanted to make sure that I would be able to watch HD movies using hard drive.
I intend to connect VT20 to PS3 by HDMI cable and give optical output to Sony home theatre.
You guys suggestions would be highly appreciated.

:p:p:p

i too was using my PS3 earlier to watch movies, but quite many times i had to deal with softwares like TSMuxer or mkvtoolnix, etc for conversion and all those things. was becoming a pain to keep running from TV to PC and back. i did myself a favour and bought a 3D HD media player (himedia HD900B). if you dont mind a few hassles, simply use your PS3, because of its solid upscaling performance and PQ it delivers; no need of spending money for anything else. otherwise get an HD media player (preferably one that can run 3D ISOs), or best - build an HTPC or use your current PC to play movies, if possible.

if you decide to get a media player, you could get that too from sing/malay before disembarking. let us know what you're thinking.

and yes, earlier i too had thought of getting this TV from dubai, but then rejected the idea thinking of handling, customs, warranty and all those worrisome aspects, esp. for such a huge TV. i would recommend you to get it locally from here. let others too suggest something.

I just wanted to avoid connecting a media player also. I am not a big movie buff, accept for 3D, i will be mainly playing games in PS3 and would like the output from both VT20 and PS3 to Sony home theater.
