Pioneer sp-fs52 andrew jones designed now in india

Look at 5,6, and 8 pages for Andrew J comments regarding the speakers design.

Pioneer SP-BS22-LR speakers are really nice.

I think we all understand this fact that they are not THE BEST speakers, but they are THE BEST in this 'price range' any one can get.

I even have feeling that some costlier than this pair might not be as good as they are.

Any way Nero, when you are going to get your pair and you post your experience of them?

Due to yesterday's festival and weekend. i might get on monday/tuesday. :(

I have the BS22 bookshelves and they have been with me for 2 years and they sound good.

One of my team members is going to US via Emirates with his parents...that is 6 checkin baggages and I am hoping at least two checkin will be for me

I went to Amazon US site to check out the complete packages and also individual floor standers...length, breadth, height.....I am sure the complete package will be too big to checkin..but for the individual floor standers, it has dimensions..but not sure if its for the speaker or the package..I posted questions on the site but got no responses.

Anyone who has bought the floor standers...any idea if the airlines will let me checkin in place of suitcases? I know weight is not an issue, but it might be too long...two floor standers in place of two suitcases at 90 dollars each will be great!!!

It should not be a problem. While we Indians are shy of our requirements in the international public space, I've seen firangs wheel in what look like two 100" TVs into the check-in queue and act nonchalantly almost like they were carry-on baggage. LOL

Thanks..the visit is still a month away - so let me get the actual dimensions and also check with airlines if they have a problem. Another issue is any local domestic flights he has to take before he reaches Newark...am sure domestic airlines will not be as accomodative as Emirates.

Any idea how much they cost in Bangalore? 20-30% difference..happy to buy in Bangalore itself. Other day was checking out Audio Technica M20/30 head phones between Amazon US and Flipkart...difference is not that much. Rather buy in India with Indian warranty

hey congrats mate. :clapping:

dealer? how much you paid? :p

Thanks Nero,
experto vision in Delhi, I got a deal in 35 K, will be delivered on monday

a) I had spent good 3 and half hours,
b) auditioned two setups with same music, movie clips and AVR.
c) there were two AVR (Pioneer 823K) connected with two below set of speakers

1. FS 52, 5.1 - (5.0 Cost ==>35K)
2. Polk TSX 330 with OWM3 surround and PSW 110. (5.0 Cost==>52K)

and Played below
=============
Movie clips:
Dark Knight Rises
kamli kamli (Dhoom 3).

Music:
Lambi Judai - Reshma
koi ye kaise bataye ki vo tanha - Jagjit singh
Mera Yaar - (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag)
O Palan haare - (Lagaan)- AR Rehmaan
macrena - old spanish song.

FS 52, 5.1-
when i entered, DARK KNIGHT RISES initial robbery scene was played, and in just 20 seconds i felt i don't need to listen anything, just give order and pick it. But i holded my horses, and warned myself that you might endup with buyer's remorse. :)

hiding my amazement i asked is this the pioneer sub which is playing? twice, and person told me yes.

I had impression that it has a weak sub, but it didn't fail to impress me either.

Polk TSX330 FS+ OWM3 + PSW 110

Polk FS certainly were couple of notches above the pioneer, great speaker, and certainly better.

But i think in price range Pioneer was giving tough competition (18 K Difference)

In movies i don't know why Pioneer setup sounded so good.
May be owm3 are not equavelent to BS 22s.

So i will post further experience of their usage after few weeks.

Evaluating which cables should i go for, any suggestions to help taking decision by any one is appreciated.

Finally, you had audition and a good price for 5.0 setup. :D

I'm sure you would have even more enjoyed when the setup coupled with an yamaha or marantz receiver i guess :p

The sub was replaced in indian version of AJ package with an 12-inch down firing. which was pretty good compared to the 8 inch default (US version?).

DAC speaker wire is more than enough for this setup or else ask the dealer itself, he might give some discount on speaker wires also..?

I guess the only difference in the sub would be the input voltage. Apparently the sub is not great by itself but is meant to complement the 5.0 set quite well. It would be good for movies and for music the FS52 by themselves are quite nice.

For the moment, my whole configuration and setup is not souding as per my expectations. Certainly not good.

I need some time to play with Denon settings to know what configuration effects what, and what is optimum for my room and speakers.

So, in short term it is a bit feeling of frustration, with denon various options and configurations.

Damn, why is it so complex and why there are so many options, and bloody what option affects what?.... :ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

Certainly i am eager to set it up and sound at its best, but not spending enough time it deserves to setup.:rolleyes:

Speakers will take 100 to 150 hours to break-in. After that they will sound better.

Hi Gobble,
i hope i don't need to do something especial for break in? do I?
If there are some do's don'ts i would certainly like to be enlightened or to be referred to any existing thread.

thanks in advance for expert advice.

Even the placement of the speakers matters a LOT. Read up a few threads on speaker placement and you can experiment based on it yourself with the placement. Once you give the speakers enough room to breathe, their performance would magically improve :)

Hi - Congratulations on your set up. I believe you got it for good price.

Well regarding your dissatisfaction, I think you should give it some time. Performance of any particular set up depend on a lot of factors such as speakers, receiver, placement, settings and most importantly source material.

And believe me I have a very basic entry level set up (Yamaha YHT 196) and a lot of people said that bass is weak in this system but I am getting the kind of bass which is more than enough at times. What I am trying to say is you have much better system and it will definitely give you great performance once you set up everything properly.

I don't know the exact configuration of your system but the following questions might be able to help you.

Who set this system for you. Did he calibrate the system using auto calibration system? You need to check if calibration was done properly, Eg. distance, level and other adjustments.

If you do not have subwoofer in your set up, Did you set the fronts as large?

What is your source for music and Movies. DTS, Dolby, MP3, Flac? DTS sounds better to my ears, Flac and WAV sound better than MP3 IMHO.

Did you check the system with the same source/ music you had your demo?

Also, these equipments require break in period and will sound better after 50-100 hrs of usage. You do not need to do anything special for this.

Hope this will help a little. All you need is patience and little (more) time to explore. It is not that complicated as it appears. Enjoy

Hi mate,

Yesterday, i coupled the Pioneer fs 52 fronts with yamaha rx v375 by using MX 14AWG 6 meter Speaker wire (3 meters for each speaker). and placed the speakers roughly 20cm away from the back wall.

After, all the connections and the speaker placements perfectly checked. I switched ON the receiver and played straight away Hotel California song.

Right out of the box they sounded really good but not great.

Then i quickly changed the some settings in the AVR like

Increased fronts levels from 0 to +6 (max +10)
Increased the treble from 0 to +3(max +6)
Changed speaker configuration from small to large and kept remain subwoofer, surrounds, and center to 'None'
Enhancer: off
speaker distance: 2m (not calibrated, but did this manually)
mode: straight

Now, played the same song (hotel California) again,

The sound was improved a lot.

The drum beat was now deep and the magic between the midrange and tweeter combination was so 'sweet'.

i'm actually enjoyed the song with the great soundstage and separation of instruments in a more 'relaxed' way.

Later, i played some video songs of tamil, telugu and hindi (dts-hd ma). The bass response was very good. Actually, i didn't expect the bass this much. even i decreased the bass to -3.0 (-6 to +6)..

Still, i didn't get ' how the midrange was so good with crystal clear highs' followed by the bass response. And the speakers look very short as well.

I'm 200% satisfied by the sound of fronts alone. what if i add center and surrounds as well and play the songs in 5 channel stereo mode ? :ohyeah:

I felt the highs are little bright and more forward, which i think will settle down after some hours of play.(break-in) ?
