Using AES input of my sonnet Morpheus dac. The streamer has multiple output options - aes, optical, bnc …
I asked because I wanted to know the AES receiver chip. Google search didn't reveal anything.

I'm attempting to make my own AES to SPDIF cable. AES is 2 to 7 volts peak to peak while spdif is 0.5 to 0.6 volts peak to peak. An AES cable is 110 ohms cable while SPDIF is 75 ohms cable. A transceiver like WM8804 will allow interchange of AES and SPDIF on the inputs. Just wanted to know that are DACs using for the AES/SPDIF receiver.

Connected the Denon 3800 and heard in stereo mode for some time without any calibration. Quite 😑 actually. Then connected the 5.1.2 setup and ran Audyssey. First thing that impressed was that Audyssey told me before calibration that sub level was too hot, hence turned it down till it gave the “ok” at 75db. Then ran calibration with just 4 seats/ positions instead of recommended 8 since I had planned to calibrate with Dirac. Played a Dolby Atmos demo and was completely blown away ! The whole surround calibration is of another level. Although I am coming from Denon 2500, this AVR is miles ahead. My simple Wharfedale center channel has never sounded this good even with external amps. I don’t know if it’s the amp or the advanced version of Audyssey but it’s something else altogether. Can’t wait to run Dirac now😊

My new Ian Canada AES streamer burning in …
In my search for an off board Camilla DSP solution running on a Rpi 4 or 5, I came across the Ian Canada streamer. How are you finding yours sound quality wise. And there seem to be various upgrades available down the path for Diy'ers like superior power supplies, caps and even clocks. Very interesting indeed. Have you tried any of them so far.

My use case will be a Usb input to the Ian Canada running Rpi and another Usb output to a multi channel dac. Will it be usable in this configuration. Thanks in advance for your time :)

Hi Manohar
I didn’t understand why you have a USB input to the r pi. In any case My Ian Canada is a R pi based streamer so dosent have DAC inputs. It does not have USB output either (probably need to buy another output board.) It is already the flagship (compact) version so hopefully I won’t be doing too many upgrades. Sound quality wise I will check after burning jt in.

Hi Krishna :)

Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe I should have done more research before posting :p. Since it was Rpi driven, I assumed it had Usb inputs and outputs. And the on-board Pi could be loaded with camilla DSP for my tinkering. I guess I got it all wrong.

I was basically looking for a Rpi with Usb ins and outs, and good sound quality, that landed me on the Ian Canada. Will await your listening impressions in due time once burnt in. Thanks :)

While my model dosent have DAC type inputs, there are versions which do have these inputs including a Pi free DAC model. Haven’t looked into them though.
