Post your latest AV purchase(s)......

Congratulations! How much did you pay? Did you compare other similar models from Onkyo/Denon/Pioneer/Marantz? Why did you specifically choose this one?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I had a friend pick it up from Singapore, cost me around 28k in INR.

I did compare it to the Denon 1911 and Onkyo 608, but unfortunately wasn't able to audition all three together. Of the three, the Yamaha (seemingly) sounded the nicest. Also liked the analog audio preout it has, which will give me the option to add a stereo amp sometime in the future. Apart from this, did some extensive reading up online, and went with the Yamaha. The Onkyo would have cost under 700 SG$, making it great vfm, but I thought the Yamaha is better suited for music than the Onkyo. The Denon was great, but had less features at a slightly higher price.
I was interested in Pio having read their reviews , but couldn't find a demo unit in town. I didn't see any Marantz AVRs at this price point.

Hello Everyone,

I haven't yet made a purchase but would be doing so in the next 2 days. Here is what he offered, from a store in Bangalore.
An Epos M12i and a Marantz SR5004. The total cost of this including the cables is coming up to Rs. 81k.

Do you think this is a good price to give for these products or am I being over charged? Would really love to know if anyone can comment on this pricing. This is going to be my priced possession so wanted to know if I'm not getting over charged.

Cheers all,
:)

Well, It is quite a minuscule "purchase" but worth sharing here with you all.
I just purchased a "USB 2.0 to Mic Speaker Audio Sound Card Adapter" from eBay - eBay India: USB 2.0 to Mic Speaker Audio Sound Card Adapter (item 130507250819 end time 17-Apr-2011 12:59:34 IST)

Reason for buying - Had a Rs 75/- flat discount eBay coupon so just had to pay Rs 50 for this stuff. Infact, while buying I didn't even had any idea what exactly it does!:ohyeah:

I received the shipment in 2 days flat and it is serving me quite well as an external sound card. Interestingly, the sound has improved through my Sony VAIO laptop when listening through this card! It has been useful for me as the earphone jack of my laptop had developed some lead contact fault and now I can connect my earphone through this card. The spec says it has Digital Class-B amplifier inside. Chinese cost control!;)

Hi,
Is it a good idea to keep the AVR, PS3 etc inside glass/wooden shelves? I heard they produce a lot of heat and need proper ventilaton? Please tell me, as I am also looking for a nice cabinet, but am confused how to design it as I thought that the equipments would need ventillation.

It is very very necessary..I had recently bought an audio rack with glass shutters. PS3 gets heated very fast and so I let the glass shutter open always while playing and pulls the PS3 out so that the fan faces outwards.(old 60gb model).Yesterday while playing PS3, suddenly with a big bang, the glass broke into pieces(tempered one)..Think, The heat from the PS3 via the fan caused this...

 Gosh....are you serious??? Man....this is scary!!! Need to show this to my better half now who thinks im being stupid in keeping everything open and ventillated, as, according to her, the racks with glass shutters look soooo cool.

Thanks for letting us all know about this incident....could have been pretty dangerous.

^^I think u can use Plexiglass(slightly tinted would look cool as well).Am thinking of doing the same.

btw, the heat a ps3 gives out after hours of gaming is quite significant, add to that the heat of an AVR and the above incident is quite possible.

I would suggest you to find the root cause of the issue. I dont think its because of heat. please check whether its actually a tempered glass or not. It might have broken due to some force due to misalignment of the shutter. Breakage due to heat is impossible as it require a furnace.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
