I just added two more equipments to my AV setup.
I bought the Optoma 3D-XL converter/adaptor to pair with my 3D-ready Acer projector (H5360). I bought this (3D-XL) from amazon.de for 227 Euros and got it delivered to a colleagues place and she carried it for me to India/ Bangalore. It comes with one DLP-Link 3D glass. I connected the 3D-XL between the projector and the source (PS3/ laptop) and tried some 3D game (Grand Tourismo 5)and movie (Avatar, 3D mkv file played from my laptop) yesterday. I must say the big screen 3D experience was really amazing. I am now desperately looking to buy some more DLP-link 3D glasses.
I recently ordered the Marantz BD player UD5005 from our own hifimart. This model was on offer at a special price of 19.3k its MRP is Rs. 39k and current US price is around $500. It is 3D capable and also network capable (through LAN cable only, no WiFi). It is region A BD player and according to the distributor region-free DVD player (I am yet to check & confirm it) and more than anything a very capable SACD and CD/MP3 player (advertized as a universal disc player). It has a 2-channel Analog out (but no 5.1 or 7.1 channel Analog out), besides the HDMI and component and composite outs. It also has a USB input at the front panel to play media files from flash/ external HD (I have not yet tried this). I received this only yesterday and played some DVD and BDs I found the picture quality was (marginally) better, especially for DVDs and audio quality (for both DVDs and BDs) were audibly better than the PS3 (slim) that I have been using with the same setup (Denon 1911 AVR and Tannoy HTS101 5.1ch speakers). I also tried some audio CDs first with HDMI out (as the audio output connector) and then with RCA analog outs. In both cases, with AVRs audio setting set to stereo, my MA M6 speakers gave me much much better audio quality than anything I have heard using my PS3. Especially with analog 2-ch out and with the Pure direct mode of the Marantz player, the music was really sweet. I basically want to use this player for stereo music. That it can play region A BDs (my PS3 works only for region C) and also DVDs (hopefully all regions) are real bonus. I am yet to try out all the settings and configurations of this player but with whatever I have seen/heard so far, I am happy that I took the decision to buy this.
I must share this here just before ordering this, I actually sent a SOS kind of PM to venkatcr asking him about his assessment/opinion on this player. He sent a quick and brief reply stating this player was a premium one and was favourably compared with the Oppo BDP-83 which has been the benchmark.
