Potential Buyers- PlayOn!HD Media Player

what about the HD audio passthrough with the latest beta firmware? i had not received the box yet. aqtronics makes a long delay from saturday. hopefully i will receive today and check for the HD audio tonight.

My POHD came installed with v7.0.06.r4318. I installed 1TB seagate hardisk with 7200 rpm ( didn't get 5400 rpm ones).
About HD passthrough it played DTS-HD MA 7.1 with no problems, but when I tried to play Dolby TrueHD 7.1 there was no audio. I downloaded sample video files from

High Definition Trailers (HD) - Demo World

About networking, it connected to the internet with the wifi dongle, also using POHD as NAS, I accessed and played wirelessly divx, xvid files of upto 720p stored on POHD from my computer smoothly. It streamed properly in both windows xp and ubuntu. The router used was Linksys wrt54g. Using wireless n router or wired lan may give more throughput for HD videos. Yet to try Bittorrent and YAMJ. That's it for now.

Were u able to see DTS-HD MA or just DTS on your A/V receiver?

Hi,

Today morning POHD was delivered. Now, unboxing the beast..... :yahoo:

I would like to bring one thing to your notice (for outstation guys). In the delivery chellan, there is a note saying that "The above materials are sent for demo purpose".

Will it affect the warranty? Please drop in your suggestions.

Rajesh

"The above materials are sent for demo purpose".

It's probably there to circumvent the local sales tax red tape of the respective states.

Since warranty is handled by Aqtronics itself, I'm sure there is no reason to worry.

A big let out by AC Ryan !!!!
:-(
The reason why I had purchased AC Ryan (after trading my WD TV HD Gen1) is to ensure that I get HD audio passthrough because I own a Onkyo HTIB which decodes all HD audio formats.
But to my big disappointment when I tested my POHD last night with all my test audio files of mkv, and m2ts, I only found the following.

1. No passthrough and downmix of DolbyTrueHD.
2. Passthrough of only core stream of DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR which means effectively you get only lossy DTS stream to the receiver and hence my AVR just shows DTS.

So in simple words, it doesnt support HD audio as they claim to be.

The box came with the latest beta firmware preinstalled.

Other things noted:-

1. Crap GUI / menu.
2. Audio starts after 2 seconds for any file.
3. Hangs up quite lot often even when I play simple SD movie file.
4. wireless - not tested

So verdict:-
ACRYAN is nowhere near to WD in my opinion.

Their beta firmware has lots of problems. I am using the older firmware (2189 or something) on my older chipset box and NEVER had ANY problem. Just wait for them to upgrade the firmware. These problems are occurring because they have moved to a new V3 SDK from Realtek.

Guess we need to highlight this to Mr Ranga, If the HD passthrough is a feature which POHD claims to provide then this is a shortcoming in the batch being delivered...

Guru,

Please write back your observations to AQtronics(ranga)/AC Ryan forum. They may release a new firmware bundled with fixes to these problems.

Too early to pass a verdict .......(As per indian legal system) :p

Subject: no HD audio support

With the latest firmware pre-installed,
(Firmware_PV73100_v7.06.r4318_European)

1. No support entirely for Dolby TrueHD. No audio coming out.
2. It passthrough only core stream of DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR to the receiver, effectively I get only lossy DTS stream into the receiver and hence only DTS lights up on the receiver and not DTS-HD MA (when I play a DTS-HD MA file).

So put it in simple, POHD doesnt support HD AUDIO as they claim it to be.

A big let out and false claim by AC Ryan.

Yes I connected my POHD to the Onkyo Receiver (HTS-3300) which supports all HD audio through HDMI only.
I played different files (mkv and m2ts) which has DolbyTrueHD and DTS-HD MA etc, but the A/V receiver doesnot detect the HD audio.

Audio Setting on POHD:
# Digital o/p = HDMI RAW.

Aks, Can you please confirm were you to able see DTS-HD MA on your receiver? Check again and let me know. Thanks.

Today I got the Playon HD. I am a newbie. Please let me know whether which firmware version is better( with less bugs?) :(
