Pune HFV Meet 2011

Hi all,

I agree with Sridhar. What do others who will be present say? It is very kind of Viki to have offered his place as the venue. It would be good to share in helping him and his wife with some of the responsibility of hosting the event.

Regards.

Somehow I missed Sridhar's post... Thanks Miro... Yes, I wish the same. This time the onus is on us to get Viki's stomach filled till his eyeballs :D

I suggest we go for home-delivery type of arrangement... I can coordinate the specifics of ordering, and it can be decided on the day of meet. Uhhh I am already feeling hungry, now where's that Dominoe's pizza number???

Hi Sonosphere, I agree.

Domino's pizzas and soft drinks would be easy to serve and convenient to eat and drink. What do the others say?

Regards.

Me too for Pizzas and soft-drinks.

Isn't anyone demonstrating AVRs this time. I would like to demo a multi-channel setup since I haven't been able to upgrade my amplifier and speakers. For stereo I'll be able to demonstrate my sony BDP only.

To Mumbai/Navi Mumbai Folks,

Anyone interested in joining me & hemant for HFV Pune meet from Mumbai/navimumbai, pls PM me. Have space for 6 people

...

Hi Shanti,
Why don't you join with Denom, as he is coming from Mumbai for this meet (getting some DAC's along won't hurt :D). Come to think of it Denom hasn't even booked a flat in Pune, yet he is not waiting till then to join the meet :lol:

Hi,
I have collected following recommendations so far...

Sridhar:
1. 1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky

Viki:
1. Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
2. Bob Dylan - Blowing in the Wind
3. U2 - I still haven't found what I'm looking for
4. Carl Orff - Carmina Burana
5. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
6. Eagles - Hotel California

Askii:
1. Jai Ho - A.R Rahman

In case Shanti joins the meet we can choose from his CD's too.

Can anybody recommend *popular music /song that has dominant percussion instruments? I don't see such music in above list (lot of Santana's songs come to my mind, however the ones that I have are 70's stuff wherein the recording is not as good to demonstrate the "thundering dynamics" of various percussion /drums etc.)

*Note: Having popular songs /music in our selection means most people can visualize (audiolize?) from words, when they read our Observation-report later... for e.g "the chorus of "Comfortably Numb" sounded distant in combo-1 where as in combo-2 it was in-your-face"

We can audition my Marantz av7005+mm7055 combo, if you like, but it does'nt come close to a stereo setup.

Also, there's various kinds of takeout possible, so lets not worry about the food guys.

So, we're all good with starting early, right? Say 0930 hours? Denom, what time r u guys leaving Mumbai?

Viki

Sorry for the late response frinds but I got some thing urgent and I may have to travel Mumbai this sunday. I'm still trying to avoid that but mostly I'm out

AVRs are a different beast. Since I missed AVR demos last time, this time I would like to demonstrate as well as listen.

9:30am sounds cool. Various take-out options are possible, so let's not worry about food. Let's worry about discount coupons .

Hi Viki,

Sir,
I too have not booked any flat;
I have a flat in Koregaon Park [Annex] @ Satellite Tower.
However, the same is under renovation;
Else, I could have visited Pune & stayed back.

I still would like to come.
Saturday it is - I believe.

I could get my DAC along - but it needs dual AES [digital] inputs.
Will any one have a transport that will give to me a XLR - Digital [110ohm] output ? Besides, the DAC is pure balanced - so the out too is on XLR - no RCA at all;;;

I stay @ Napean Sea Road in Mumbai - where does Denom stay ? Where can we come [meet] from ?

Is the plan to drive back - same day ?

Thanks,

:)

friends I'm back to Pune after a long vacation and ready to meet all of you during the meet. Sunday 9:30 -10:00 would be fine for me, I'm little lazy getting up so early in Sunday morning... :D

Sonosphere

For songs with percussion & drums I can recommend the following:-
1. Bikram Ghosh - Tandav (Instrument density - Medium to High; Dynamics - medium; good percussion)
2. Sona - Ishq Nachaya (sufi - Instruments- Funky & interesting combos ith lots of reverbs; good percussion)
3. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (sufi - interesting mix of vocals, drums & other traditional instruments. Busy & detailed track)

If you want the O.P. Nayyar "Yeh Reshmi Zulfon" I have a HMV CD of the same.

If you want I can email the above 3 songs for ur listening.
