Puriss A1000A. Class A amp for serious listening

I have requested Mr Jha-ji via pm to consider some listening session for Delhi/ NCR audiophiles. Maybe at Sid's place. Waiting for his response.

Maybe after he makes a slimmer & lighter version, this could be possible, as shipping this Beast in current avtaar would be a Task in itself:rolleyes:

Akshay pls do so ASAP for many would be glad to listen to your creation:)

I have a question.
Do a CD player or a pre-amp have output stages based on Class A/ Class AB?

To get the best out of a Class A power amp should the source output stages in the chain be based on Class A?

My understanding is if the source audio signal coming from a Class AB output stage then it will already have crossover distortion in it and just gets amplified going through Class A power amp with the crossover distortion induced from the source.
May be what I asked is a dumb question

Yup, I am planning to work on the A600A soon. As rightly pointed out by denom, it would be quite a task sending this amp.

The performance of a system is as good as its weakest link. The pre-amplifier, if present in the chain, is of great importance and it should certainly be class A, preferably a discrete design. However that doesnt mean that every class A pre-amp would sound better than any class AB design. The design would decide what sounds better. However a pre-amp designed to match with a power amplifier is the best bet.

There is no such thing as Class for a source. The classification into A, B, C, D is only for amplification.

Cheers

I dont have technical knowledge as some other members here but in some websites I have read that the CDP has a Class A output stage

I think its the output stage what Ravi is refering to

Hi Akshay,

This looks absolutely great, and totally professional (btw, I'm the guy that bought your old Sansui integrated:)).

Do you have a 4 ohm resistive reading for the amp, when used as a monoblock, by any chance? Just wanted to know if it doubles the wattage into 4 ohms..thanks!

Hey Abhijit,

Great to hear from you. the amp o/p at 4 ohms is 90watts continuous.

Cheers.

Am slightly lost..I thought as a monoblock using balanced ins, it pushes 100 wpc into 8 ohms per channel. What would be the corresponding 4 ohm setting?
I'm guessing you mentioned the 4 ohm setting in stereo.

Sorry to have misunderstood your question. The power o/p at 4 ohms, used as mono-block would be 180watts continuous.

Kanwar, I am moving (have moved) all your posts and related posts to a different thread. These posts were seriously derailing this thread. You and others can continue the discussion there. The link is http://www.hifivision.com/amplifiers/16623-should-amplifiers-transparent.html.

Please do not add any of this discussion here. BTW, there are many threads that have already discussed this in detail.

Cheers
