raspberry pi 2 as media player

These might help.

The first one seems to be easy enough and with pics.

How-To: Share A Folder With A Windows Computer From A Raspberry Pi | Raspberry Pi HQ

CAGE Web Design | Raspberry PI accessing your Windows shares - CAGE Web Design

I've shared a lot of Windows drives and folders and all are easily accessible on all smartphones and tablets. Never tried with the Pi though.

@rikhav, were you able to add the music NAS drive, in Moode or you still need any assistance. What NAS r u using. For synology hope you have enabled windows file service and SMB. I never used SMB, but once its enabled in Synology its pretty stright forward to set up on moode. Follow blackscrpio screen shot. The ip will be ur NAS ip, and then just put in the music folder name.

I use NFS for connecting my Audio_Media folder to all external devices, so procedure for that is a little different and a bit complex. If you are unsuccessful with SMB, please share and we shall try to use NFS to add your music folder to Moode.

Hi Sam
Thanks for offering help. Really appreciate
Its not a proper NAS . sharing one of pc drives on the network
Have not been able to configure it. My cousin is coming to help me out in some time
Will update

Well below are few steps you can try ... assuming you have a PC/Laptop from where you can access moode page. And the folder you are trying to add is on another. Both PC and moode (rpi) on the same network.

1. You need to make sure that the folder you are trying to add is shared across the network. With access to "everyone". Refer the snap shot. Here I am sharing a folder called Test Music.

2. The PC where the share folder exists, make sure you can access moode from that PC,either via browser or ping the ip

3. Head over to moode confg page and add the details as per below snap shot.

4. User name and password is of the PC which has the folder you are trying to add to Moode

Okay. I am trying this
What if I have put no password?

Should I keep blank or adding password and login necessary?

^^ I dont think, blank would work, but you can try (With NFS, it doesnt you have to have a password, with SMB it might, I am not sure, so try) .... if it does not you have to put a password on the PC the shared folder is on, and then retry connecting moode with the credentials added ....

ALSO IMP :: make sure your windows firewall is off (or atleast create an exception for Moode). but its better to switch it off completely .....

I tried every way I could, its not working

Most frustrating is I cant delete the network mount I had tried to create and every time I press save it just does not allow then to go to settings

Should I do fresh install of moode and try?

Firewall Is off as I can access all usb drives directly connected to moode.

Silly question, but did you restart Moode? I had to restart it before it recognized and indexed my library the first time around.

I understand what you are trying to achieve here is a temporary workaround till you setup a proper NAS, but simple Windows share might not work with Linux. Its dead easy with Android, again next to impossible with any of the Apple devices.

From what I see you need a server on the PC. Simplest is MinimServer for audio, but otherwise Plex is an excellent solution. Use the Pi as a renderer. That's the way 2 PC setups work, or any form of network streaming, especially for streaming media. A server, a renderer and a control point in the middle. Simple Windows sharing might not work (I may be wrong, but I never could get Windows sharing to work with anything Apple). I've not even tried with Linux.

Even with a NAS, you'll still be running a media server at the very least, so that's the better way to go about it I suppose, get a server running on your PC.

You could consider buying a HDD case for the HDD and plugging it in direct into the Pi. That will eliminate the PC and the need for sharing folders and drives. That's a budget solution. Long term think NAS or at least semi-NAS from the likes of WD and Seagate.

Yes, I did restart not.once but several times

It just hangs when I put new entries in the menu. And when you power off and on it back its still on older settings

I guess as per my experience till now I also think sharing Windows to Linux is not easy

My couisin has suggested to create a mount manually via putty but I think I will wait for him to do that for me whenever he is free

If that also does not work I will buy a casing, install a WD NAS grade internal drive and connect directly to RPI and get done with it

Thank you all for helping me out

You need to be more specific, than "its not working" ... :), whats the error you getting, can you access moode from the PC that has the folder you are trying to add?. click start run and put \\moode and click ok....do you see bunch of folders opened ??? Can you ping moode ip from the PC that has the music folder ????

There is NO NEED to mount any drive manually, you are complicating things unnecessarily.

Why cannt you delete, I just clicked on remove on the top left corner and it removed the drive I added .. it was as simple as it can be .

sharing windows to linux and vice versa might not be easy but it IS with moode, coz moode OS developer takes care of everything that need to be done as far as mounting a drive goes, all you need is to add the music folder (complete path in case of NFS) and save, rest is all taken care of by moode itself ....... if this is not happening then there is something very simple missing, nothing complicated ...

Thats good to hear

Still for the sake of other members I will post the link where it's explained how to under clock cpu

Even while playing tracks direct from moode I am using 3 percent cpu resources in RPI 2, so for sure the CPU power f new pi is not needed for music only

Oh well spoke too soon. I changed the Pi(s). Music on Pi 2 and movies on Pi 3. Set up on Pi 3 with OpenElec is working fine but despite the 5V 3.1A power supply, a small rainbow box keeps appearing on and off. I have attached five 1TB HDDs through a powered Anker USB hub (Anker AH221 USB 3.0 7-Port Hub with 1 BC 1.2 Charging Port up to 5V 1.5A, 12V 3A Power Adapter Included [VIA VL812-B2 Chipset and updated Firmware 9081] - Buy Anker AH221 USB 3.0 7-Port Hub with 1 BC 1.2 Charging Port up to 5V 1.5A, 12V 3A Power ). Any idea why this should be happening?

Hi
If i am not wrong rainbow screen means pi is not getting enough power
Often these wall chargers are known to output less then whats written on them
So that can be the case

Also i saw your sms just now. So sorry
I am really not sure ho to connect a pi to mac.
You want to transfer files from mac to pi or vice versa or you want thehdmi output of pi to mac?

Sam so sorry for not being specific
Have been trying it since many hours so drained out :)

I will answer to your post in detail tomorrow

But yeah, i just cant delete the nas mount. It just comes back or i cant go to settings again if i press button to remove it

5 HDDs is too much IMHO. Get a NAS or build one yourself. Keep the server separate from the Pi. In terms of h/w the Pi is more than capable to run any NAS or server, but its limited in that it does not have SATA and the USB/Ethernet will limit transfers. At least in theory, though I've not experienced it myself. But simply put keep the Pi for a player and the OpenELEC interface and an actual PC or NAS for serving the files.

Test with a USB pen drive playing the same movie and see if the rainbow is replicated. Then plug in only 1 HDD and slowly increase by an additional HDD if its working fine.

What's the power supply for the Pi? Get a good quality one... at the least a mobile charger from a reputable brand like Sony, Motorola, or Samsung.

Time to use the latest Moode image and try it. Moode is cranky at times and a fresh image often solves the problem.

Not the best way to do R&D, but if its a quick fix then use it by all means.

Hi regeha
In moode you go to audio info and you see in percentage the CPU load
It has never crossed 5 percent for me

The settings were on some audiocircle thread which I can't find but if I remember correctly I has shared the link here as well

Let me go through whole thread

Found it

Raspberry Pi add on DACs

It was a CA thread

Great. Gordon is a very helpful guy.

He said earlier that there could be an alternative to hifiberry digi+ coming this February end. However, I think there is no such news regarding the same. I went along with hifiberry digi+ only.
