elton john - love songs

brand new cd - the first time im listening to it and its already scratched - KIDS!!!

i used to have a cd which was a tribute to 25 years of elton john and bernie taupin. bernie was the writer for eltons songs. it had their songs sung by various artists. one of them was sacrifice sung by sade. it was beautiful - earthly. you get lost in it

Another Van Morrison classic...

my favorite van morrison number is 'cleaning windows'...a reviewer rightly said that while his more extroverted contemporaries like mick jagger were singing to the crowds...van was lost in his own self..but man could he take us to places with his moody voice and haunting lyrics...
astral weeks, moondance, tupelo honey..i loved all those albums..

another favorite singer who just seemed to be singing to his own self was lou reed...and unlike other comeback gigs..i thought the velvet underground live at paris was a masterpiece...
the tortured guitar of 'heroin', the roald dahl-esque bizarre ending of 'the gift' and the catchy 'rock and roll'..man i love them

Heard two albums last night. One was '11 of the best' by Billy idol. Not everyones cup of tea i guess and 'turn it on again' -Genesis. The latter is a good recording and has quite a few great tracks of the band.

Heard 'Whispering Jack' this morning which is an album of an Australian singer called John Farnham. Generally not available in bbay. I guess some of u may have heard the popular track you're the voice but there are other tracks which are good too.

John Farnham is like a cult figure in Australia. If my memory serves me right he also sang at the Olympics. I have 'Whispering Jack' on cassette (and am looking for the CD). I also have a couple of cassettes carrying singles (did not know they existed before these). These songs too are very nice.

'You're the voice' is an anthem!! The guy has some range!!!

Hi Ashok,
Yes he and Olivia Newton John sang at the closing ceremony of the Sydney olympics. He is very popular in australia though not so in India and his cds are difficult to find.

"You're the voice try and understand it" that indeed was an anthem with me and most of my friends when we were growing up.

kenny rogers - 21 number ones

very good recording - you can even hear his voice cracking when he hits the low notes

Heard Raaz a number of times over the last few days. The numbers Maahi, Suniyo, and O Jaana are really very good and grow on you as you listen. The recording is reasonably good.

In Suniyo the way they have mixed a few lines of English with Hindi is quite charming.

The number - Bandaa Re - is also good and is a Kabhir song.

If you like Sufi, and Khabir numbers intermixed with western instrumentals, Raaz is a good album to have.

Cheers

You can call me a George Michael fanboy I guess. Have all of his work. Just started with converting all his solo and Wham albums to FLAC. Been at it from the morning and still not done.

Hard to believe that this is a debut album. Very good and funny too especially on tracks like "Smile". Do check out Ms. Allen, she can sing.

Highly recommended album for anyone who loves the Blues and/or Bob Dylan's music. The Artists include The Band, Taj Mahal, Isaac Hayes and others. One of the very few 'cover' albums that I've heard that can stand up to the originals...

Ofcourse, YMMV

Cheers!
