Right now I am listening to ...

One of my favorite albums when I was growing up. Loaded with hits and an absolute must...

I managed to get a copy of Salt Rain and have been repeatedly listening to the album over the last few days. I thought I will write a detailed viewpoint about the album and singer bur came across this wonderful review by a guy called Cabir Davis.

One warning - if you are passionate about Carnatic music and cannot stand variations, do not listen to Susheela Raman. She takes Carnatic numbers and sings them the form of Jazz and Blues, and pronounces Indian words as a foreigner would. At first when I heard Vatapi Ganapathy, I was shocked that such a beautiful song could be murdered and the words mispronounced. Then I realised that Susheela is doing it on purpose, and not because she cannot sing it properly. She wanted all the songs to be soothing and has kept that consistent rhythm in all the songs whether she sings in Tamil. Hindi, Telugu, Sanskrit or, English. I believe she has taken a course in Carnatic Music, and speaks well in Tamil, and Hindi.

She has a strangely husky voice that borders on being manly at times. She uses that well singing at low tones all the time.

Oh well, I like the album so much that I ended up picking up all the 4 as and when they came out. FWIW, I really liked the a beautiful song murdered and the words mispronounced - It kinda brings out a very interesting twist imo.

Regards.

Some really heart warming music today. Was listening to SaReGaMa's The Best of Sarod today featuring the following:

Kausi Bhairav by Ustad Allaudin Khan
Piloo by Ustand Amjad Ali Khan
Malkauns by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan
Khamaj by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan
Des by Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta
Des Malhar by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan
Bhairavi by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan

Simply divine.

Cheers

One of rock's best debuts. A great album filled with great rock music and tracks and in fact a must have album. The group unfortunately has all but disappeared with none of their recent releases being in the same league or scoring so high on the charts.

Hi Guys,
Unleash I managed to get Best Audiophile Voices Volume 2 but didnt like it as much as the first one.

Have been listening to a lot of Marie Black and Jennifer Warnes over the weekend. The Best of Marie 1991 - 2001 and the Hidden Harvest which has duets with various artists. Both are great and recommended.

'The Hunter" by Jennifer Warnes is superb. Strongly recommended.

All are good recordings and all are sadly not available locally.

I picked it up from Landmark in Chennai. I am sure it will be available in all Landmarks. You can also order a copy from them. Salt Rain sells well, but other other album - Music For Crocodiles' is easily available.

Cheers

Started with Vienna Teng based on recommendation from this forum and I think this very thread. Certainly great music and vocals. Lots of romantic ballads, introspection, observation... Definitely someone I'll be listening to more often and recommending too.

Alan Parsons production and Stewart's evocative Continental
narratives give the record a welcome feeling of cohesion that keeps the record enchanting as it moves from
"Lord Grenville" to "Midas Shadow" to "Broadway Hotel," before it ends with the
haunting title track. Great album
