Hi Kamal sir, like some of his songs like speedy gonsalves, love letters in the sand, bernadine, johnny will although I like Ricky Nelson more. Have grown up listening to these artists (my dad's collection, I am just 26) and bring back the memories of growing up.

Hello Panditji
In many posts Kamal ji has mentioned about you and I always thought you are some one above 55-60 years of age. :)

Putumayo presents : Asian Lounge :)

One of the fair compilations, indeed.

Its rather surprising that among all the audiophiles barely a few mentions New Age/ World music. Audiophilia seems to be confined to Jazz, Classic Rock with a lil ghazal and classical sprinkled around.

No offences meant to anyone, I also adore the aforementioned genres a lot.

Just an attempt to chid you audiophiles to dig out that old enigma/enya lying around in your collection.

Me listening right now to:
Voyageur - Enigma.

Lucky to start a 2 hour early weekend.

Happy Listening
-Sarang

Lucky you - I'm stuck at work and looks like an all-nighter. :p

Would love to try out New Age/ World - what would you recommend as a starting point for a total noob? A sampler/ compilation cutting across artistes/ sub-genres maybe?

Good point indeed Sarang
Enigma has many hits to their credit like Sadness, Mea Culpa, Return to Innocence

Buddha Bar series will be good choice to start listening world music?

Nice to see some audiophiles showing some interest in world / celtic / new age.

I have some Putumayo collection , including Putumayo world instruments , Putumayo Blues , latin , Putumayo Africa .

Some good musics from Celtic such as Enya , Clannad

I also love Blonkers and Chris Spheeris ( easy listening )

@Persiflage: One of the compilations around is the"Pure Moods" series, y Virgin records. Pure Moods - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IMO The first of the series is the best of them all. Covers legends like Enigma, Enya, Mark Esham, Deep Forest, Mike Oldfield, Adiemus as well as rooies like Geoffrey Oryema, Sacred Spirits and the likes, so this should be a good starter.

@dvdmk:Putumayo is indeed a nice label, if you are into afro-cuban music u'd surely appreciate the efforsts of deep forest, as well as a series i mentioned earlier by Anthony Copping called "Last Voices from Heaven".

Good point indeed Sarang

@rikhav: Initial buddha bar compilations were surely good with only the passionate Claude Challe doing everythihng, with the popularity came commercialization and stepped in DJs like Ravin n Popat thats where i stopped purchasing their stuff.
I still count claude in very high regard though, his choice of tracks is praiseworthy.

@PanditjiL: Good recommendation there, two days back listened to their 25th anniv edition.

Going to bed with another special new age album:
Carbon Based Life Forms - Hydrophonic Garden

These guys have created a beautifully ambient soundscape with this one.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
