Right now I am listening to ...

Probably the first white rappers way back in 1986 and way before Eminem. This became the most successful rap album of the 1980s and the first to top the Billboard charts. Leaving all that aside, loads of fun even today. An absolute must along with Run DMC's Raising Hell album, 2 of raps best albums and both from 1986.

If you like old-school rap and hip-hop, try listening to The Roots. It's my all time favorite hip-hop band, not that I listen to lot of hip-hop...

Thanks will check them out. Not much into rap/hip-hop myself these days, but it was what I breathed when growing up. Just heard some soul yesterday and found myself visiting all my favorite albums from when I was a kid.

Hardcore rap, very high on the beats. Truly one of the best rap albums I've heard. And to think I heard of Run DMC from Aerosmith because of their duet Walk This Way, which is found on this album, not a standout track because the entire album is great, but the fusion of the rock guitar with rap has to be heard on this particular track. Ditto for Steven Tyler's vocals!

This is the rap that brought back Aerosmith from oblivion and Steve changed his singing style as well. Run DMC is credited with this solely. This was not new to them though since Rock Box in their first album was a fusion between Hip Hop and rock.

From GZA, one of the member of the Wu Tang Clan, amazing album. Adds a new dimension to rap/hip-hop. I still prefer the entire group of Wu Tang Clan performing together though compared to solo efforts from its members, but this is a great album nevertheless.

Yes it is. I picked it up from one of the Odyssey bookshops in Chennai. It was really a surprise 'cuz usually the selection there sucks. Where you at?

im in botswana, next to south africa. lets see if i can pick something up here. if not will order it on amazon. though i wont get it for the next 6 months i guess

was listening to a bit of mark knopfler last night. one thing i've noticed about his albums / dire straits is that the recording quality is really good. dynamic, good sound separation, not muddy at all, excellent bass...and when you listen to such recordings it makes the music sound so much better. i dont think its a huge issue for other groups to get this right and i wonder why they dont do it

Anil, I too have the Cerrone [Love in c Minor] LP record, and it has some good music. Though the cover is more yellow and less blue than the image you posted here.

Thanks,
Sharad

There are other contenders for the best rap album, but this one wins for the best gangster rap album. Ice Cube is still going strong in fact. My wife though is wondering and searching for meaning in the Beastie Boys, Run-D.M.C., Wu-Tang Clan and other hip-hop/rap I've been blasting from yesterday. Hopefully a phase that'll pass before she passes out or phases me out...
