Right now I am listening to ...

I'm not sure. I got most of my collection from abroad. Not tryin to be fancy here but I just like the whole process of buying CDs - physically checking them out in a shop, listening to them and then paying in hardcash. And I love unwrapping the flimsy plasctic covers, sliding them in to the tray, sinking into my couch with a glass of redwine anticipating how its gonna sound.:) Call me oldfashioned.

But if you find it hard go get, Amazon maybe?

Amazon.com: Best Audiophile Voices V1 GOLD CD: Emi Fujita, Eva Cassidy, Andrea Zonn: Your Store

Its not currently available but its atleast listed. The regulars can help you out here how they source these types online.

Regards.

buying a cd is always just more than that. its the whole experience in itself. i love walking into a cd store and looking around. i normally buy cds when i travel. which is about once a month. and then im itching to get home to listen to it on my system

one of the issues of buying in india is that stores (or atleast the ones i go to) dont let you listen to the cds before you buy. and thats a huge issue. i've bought a lot of cds that i dont really want.

Tough to select but for me personally one of Eric Clapton's must have albums. Only Layla is missing, but this CD is awesome for the terrific ballad Wonderful Tonight.

im not too much into the younger years of clapton. its when he's grown older that he's produced his best music. esp when he goes acoustic

Dire Straits - On Every Street, probably their best album though Brothers In Arms too would be in contention here. This album needs to grow on you. It's with repeated listening I've learnt to appreciate the strumming of the guitar on tracks like On Every Street. Heavy Fuel is probably the only "commercial" track on this album, but even that's a great track. An amazing album...

I actually went the other way around. Started with Layla, Cocaine, I Shot The Sheriff, Wonderful Tonight... Once these had sunk in then I had to get everything by Eric Clapton! Agree with you, his "Unplugged" album is a gem. Just that I like the rock guitar a wee bit too much I guess...

Ditto here. Never even had the option of listening to the CDs before you buy them and did not even know that was a possibility in India. In fact most are reluctant to even open the seal unless you pay for them first.

Hey Moser,
This is purely a personal choice naturally. Any of the older Dire straits albums are better than This one. In fact i even prefer the Brothers in arms to this. But having said that i still like/listen to this album too as i like just about anything MK dishes out.

Very true. But this albums warrants repeated listening before it sinks in. It's a very "understated" album for lack of better words...

Was introduced to them from the Tom Cruise movie "Cocktail" (a great movie and must watch), there is a track Kokomo from the OST. Further digging led to such gems like Surfin' U.S.A., Surfer Girl, California Girls, Good Vibrations, California Dreamin' and many, many more. Yeah a group that deals with the sun, the sand and surfing, all beach activities one could say.

I agree, but now those stores are gone even in the US. Target and *Marts can never get close to what Tower Records had to offer.

Alan Parsons - On Air (DTS audio CD)

This album was recorded in multi-channel by Parson himself. He joins you in your room and makes it a point to sit on all the chairs you have. A great experience.
The album tracks the history of aviation, including some original sound samples.

Thanks,
Sharad

Agree but even an Amazon does have its advantages. Due to low overheads it practically stocks everything unlike a local shop which will only stock the very latest/most popular stock that moves. Also, Amazon even offers digital d/l in case the physical CD is out of print which again is not an option with the local CD shop. But you're right nothing like the experience of wandering through a well stocked CD shop/music store. Only in this day and age don't know when even that will become a chore rather than a pleasurable experience. There was a time I used enjoy visiting a supermarket but not anymore. The traffic is so bad, lots of rush at the supermarket, then standing in line to get billed and then more traffic to return home. I'd rather order groceries online from the comfort of my home if that was an option. Who knows even CD/DVD shopping may come to that someday?

That's what I meant. In the US it has already happened, and the music stores closed down. Now you just have the general purpose shops also selling some disks in one corner. Amazon is better.

Thanks,

Nice to see Paul mauriat, The Ventures coming up in the listening lists....I for one really like instrumental music from the above two as well as from Fausto Papetti, 101 strings, Ferrante and Teicher, Anthony Ventura ....Members if you have some music from the above, please share/sell/borrow

Since Panditji and Anil Kumar brought up instrumentals, just realsied I have been enjoying the following albums of Richard Clayderman. Very peaceful and pleasant.

The Carpenters Collection
Greatest Love Ballads
The Classic Touch (with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra)
Tango

Cheers
