Samsung Plasma 51F5500 Owners Thread /Reviews/Discussions!!

Was the dealer taking about the LED series F5500? The 2013 had seen an overlap in Samsung LED & Plasma - UNxxF5500 for LED, and PN/PSxxF5500 for Plasma. The Joy series of more affordable LED TV was there in 2013 as well.

Hi Now when i went to the samsung dealer, it was a brand shop. Now as i said in my previous posts i did not see this 5500 tv. Anyways.
He had 3 plasma all were 42 inch once, 1 was with 3d, i think it was 4900. series. Now he had other 2 models, with joy plus. He said its a new plasma series .
So i asked what about 5500, as i am interested in that, he said he can get that one but its old version, now there is new series joy plus. H5500. i dont know, and i cant argue as i dont have any details, But i dont find anything on online for H5500 in plasma as well.

Hi, guys if any one can suggest, how much its a difference in electricity bills. I mean the sales guy was very negative on electricity consumption. So if any one can give average bill they get.

This is straight-forward. Average LED TV would have 100W of consumption, while average Plasma would be 300W (both on higher side). So if you watch 5 hrs of TV every day -

1. LED : 100 * 5 = 500W per day, i.e. 0.5 unit
2. Plasma : 300 * 5 = 1500W per day, i.e. 1.5 unit.

So daily 1 unit of power would be extra, roughly 30 units per month.

The power you have mentioned are at the highest consumption if you use the TV to beam only pure white or so. Else normally around 60-70% of that. So LED will consume 60W per hour against 150W per hour of Plasma. So approx 15-20 units extra consumption per months with 5 hrs daily use.

To ALL the OWNERS :

Do you use any stabilizer or surge protectors with this TV? The samsung website says this TV has triple protection :

1. Lightning Protection : up to 15kV
2. Surge Protection : up to 750V
3. Humidity Protection

What is the need for additional stabilizer/surge-protectors?

Hi, guys i have just 2 doubts left. I am totally liking this tv. but the issue is i am not finding this anywere for demo.

Now 1 doubt is, i was at chroma yesterday a sales guy told me that there is a IR problem in plasma, he was telling that we cant even watch regular channels for 1-2 hour long, otherwise the channel logo will burn on screen. Is it true? As obviously there will be a static logo of tata sky, and the channel logos, atleast we watch movie for 2 hours.

And another one is DTV Tuner. In product specification it says. what does it mean, does it has card input slot like tata sky?

gone are the days of IR retention. Plasma's have evolved a lot over the past few years however on a precautionary note its good to run first 100-200 hours on low settings..

1-2 hours is pure BS. you can run it all day long. Tata sky logo is faint and not very solid. keep swapping between channels and watch HD channels specifically for proper 16:9 ratio.

NO, it does not have any card slot like a STB. you can either run it through cable ... which will be an insult to such a TV. either ways you can run it through STB.. like tata sky/airtel.. etc

Showroom people will always show stuff they get more profit on ...

At last I had a chance to see this in working at reliance digital. Now the PQ is the best, the brightness is quite good. Now the issue I faced is very serious one.
They had airtel digital. Now the demo guy said that they keep-continue run the set top box. Then the guy tried to show some HD content. And that time I was seeing IR of that airtel logo.

It wasnt going. Then they tried to run a white wipe feature to remove it, I waited for like 20 mins just to check if it goes but it was still there.

So current owners pla any one tell if they are facing this issu?
Otherwise the tv is best.

I have been using 51f5500 since this diwali.
I had kept it on low settings for 1 month.
I use videocon d2h hd, some times my tv is on continuously from 9 in morning to 12 midnight:)

I have not noticed any IR till now:ohyeah:

Finally took the plunge this weekend. Below are the details :

1. I was looking for a LED tv in the 60k range, though was never a fan of affordable LCD TVs. Shortlisted the Sony W700 and Samsung F5500 LCDs. Was not very impressed with either, though
2. Came back home, and a thought occurred about plasma, if they are still available.
3. Started checking out 51F5500 on the net, read through this forum multiple times. Checked every possible line available on internet.
4. Last weekend started shop-hopping again to have a demo. Finally had one, and instantly liked it. The picture was, well, very likeable, not mind-blowing. Checked a demo piece of Pana ST50, that WAS mind-blowing.
5. This Friday went to shops to finalize deal. Most of the places had the standard reply "No offer on Samsung sir, fixed rate at 76.5k". Finally booked one at 69k including an Arrow gift box.
6. The TV was delivered and installed on Sunday.

Liking it so far. One thing I noticed, the upscaling of content is really good. I checked with the previous SD Hathway box - some channels are really looking good.

Questions for the owners, please answer :

1. Is my current setting okay? Have put everything - contrast/brightness/color at 30 and cell-light at 8. Running mixed channels and the break-in slides.
2. I am planning to break-in for 200 hrs, is it okay? Should I gradually increase the contrast etc after that? Or in one go?
3. The TV has triple protection, do I still need to use a stabilizer?
4. Any other suggestion would be really welcome.

@deep_g,

Asking the same question which I asked in the Plasma discussion thread.
Where did you get it for 69k? That is the lowest I have heard recently for this TV. I couldn't get anyone beyond 73k
I presume you got it from Bangalore only.

Additionally did they have any extended warranty for 3/5 years.

where do you stay in bangalore? you can check in nearest Unilet showroom, you should be able to get it at 70k. I got the extra discount because I paid by cash.

Let me know if you get this, some showrooms said they can't even procure this once order is placed, saying this is last year's model, and now only H4900 is coming. But that is not Full HD. Reliance Digital and Girias tried to push that a lot.

Extended warranty is available for this TV, but you would need to buy it directly from Samsung. Max you can go is extra 3 years @ 8400 + tax.

Thanks, I stay in Basavanagudi, will go and check the showroom of Unilet nearby and see. I don't think I can pay in Cash, but will try nevertheless.

I would think better to get the extended warranty from Samsung and price seems decent enough.

Hi everybody
Just now this very model is delivered to me. However, it is Manufactured in Oct 2013 at chennai. I called the dealer he said sometimes in electronics 6 months difference is there. After the delivery boy went i closely checked its packing tape it seems to be repacked with narrow tape over the original broad tape. Now I am going to the dealer to have a talk face to face. And I am going to check the hours used when the Samsung technician comes. If it is just few hours then should I accept it? Because in their showroom this model was not available few days back. Also should I check any trace of image retention or burn in?
There was another product i.e. Samsung microwave is also delivered which is of February 2014 manufactured.

If you can, check the usage hours, that would allay all fears. Having said that, 6 months in godown, seems a bit long for this TV. This was not readily available in most of showrooms last month when I took this. But, if the usage hours are ok, then it should be fine I guess.

If the technician is able to open the service menu with the smart touch remote, please note down and share the procedure, we all would be thankful.
