Samsung Plasma 51F5500 Owners Thread /Reviews/Discussions!!

Woke up from a relaxing lazy Saturday afternoon nap and drove to nearby mall.

Got off the lift and started walking around.

Went into Reliance Digital casually.

Wily salesman asked if we'd like a demo. Son said why not.

Went into this room with sofa and all, sat down. Salesman gave demo.

Blew the socks off everyone of us (yes, we've been living under a rock I guess).

Been researching this since then (most of the weekend so far). Read all 48 pages here.

Had to tell the above. So registered. "Hello World". Must thank all of you for a great thread !!! On a fantastic Forum !!!

Btw, that wily salesman almost had me plonk down 76.5k for the tv with 2 glasses (no other freebies). Almost. I'll look around for other offers now. (Bangalore specific) buying advice welcome. Also, anyone bought the Skype camera addon?

You can try Devi International and Girias Jayanagar.

As suggested above please visit Devi international. They usually stock most of the Plasma models.
You may also check the Samsung brandshop near to your place.
But not sure whether they give any discount as Samsung has some pricing policy and the brand shop strictly follows it.

Even brand shop gives discounts. I got it from a brand shop, at a huge discount, but the invoice shows the Samsung price which is almost 10K higher.

I spent this weekend scouring 7 large format electronics retail chains in Jayanagar. Most didn't have this in stock and were unsure of transit duration, if ordered, but were happy to provide some discount once a substantial advance payment is made. One of the outlets was a swank new thing by Reliance called digital express. They also offered to match discounts available elsewhere and actually had the unit in stock. So, the day ended with me making a down payment (the zero-interest emi scheme was too tempting to ignore) and then twiddling my thumbs for the next couple of days, till the loan gets approved and the delivery and installation made.

Next, I plan to review this forum to identify:
- How to burn in the plasma.
- Where to buy additional 3D glasses from.
- Where to buy compatible web\gesture-camera from.
- Buy a decent and affordable 3D bluray player (recommendations?).

Congrats. Looking forward to hearing your first impressions, specially daytime PQ.

Can you share the final deal price, and any freebies/extended-warranty etc?

Congrats..

Surpirsed that the loan is not sanctioned immediately. Anyway, it takes 24/48 hrs for the delivery to happen normally as they delivers after the payment from the finance company gets credited to the retailer.

- For burn in there is a forum by Kix.. please read it .. it will help in managing the initial care needed for first 100-200 Hrs
-Additional 3D glasses - you can get from any retailer or may be from Ebay (which sometimes offers cheaper). 2012 models also works fine.
- Skype camera are available any retail store/ computer store. But do you really going to use it?
- Samy 5100 or so is around Rs 5500 or so is a good option. Else you can try Sony 4100 or so with 5 3D titles at 10K or so (effectively 5K, considering value of the free BDs).

for starters the USB port will suffice if you want to play from HDD. if you want to play through BD discs get a BDP else build a low cost HTPC

replies in BOLD

Surprise, they delivered this evening. Now for the install magician to show up!

@deep_g they took six dozen big ones, no freebies of any kind.
@manz Thanks for the inputs. Will focus on the burn in first.
@theironhorse Thanks for the USB suggestion, will try that for a while before eyeing BDP.

@deep_g Learnt that it's all installed at home and burn-in is in progress. Waiting to reach back home from work and witness. Will write-up first impression and share photos.

Thanks everybody !!!

Hi guys.
I am thinking to buy this TV. But i want to know. the performance and reviews. I saw some bad comments, not for this tv. but for Plasma's reliability against LED & LCD.

I have Samsung 32inch LCD, but i want to move to big screen, and 50inch with price looks in budget compared to other 50inch tv. I saw price in Reliance digital about 76K, does anyone know any better deal, or any bargain rate, you can suggest so i can bargain with dealer.

You should be able to get it around 70K or may be a bit less. It is the best VFM TV. Regarding the debate of LCD/LED vs Plasma, ther are enough debate happening all the time. But it is something you shall decide on your own. I was looking for a big LED but eventually bought this one as it met all my requirements at 50% of the cost of an LED. The colours are natural and you will love it. Yes LEDs can produce really bright pictures/ colours, which many people like, and nothing wrong with it. I will say go for it.

Yes VFM is the main point here, but I saw in your signature, you are a user, did you find any issues of color burn, and burn in time. I don't know that happens any more in plasma.

No issue at all. I think I had done basic burn-in care for first 60-70 hrs or so, but kept brightness at lower level for a higher time, may be 150 hrs or so. Two negatives
1. Reflection- don't opt for a plasma if you have window opposite to it r light source opposite

2. Sound quality- really pathetic, but it is so for almost all flat TVs, the choices are bad and worse, and this falls in worse category. So for better effect you need a home theater or so.

Otherwise, there is nothing to complain for. The PQ is a real bliss, specially you will feel more happy when you remember that you paid only half the money to get that PQ.

I think I paid 66K in the month of Jul or so from Samy brandshop. So it has been a long time since and we are expecting 2014 models to come out soon. But my dear friend, Plasmas are produced in limited numbers and unlike LEDs the stocks are not in high quantity with the dealers. So don't expect huge drop in prices like LEDs once the new models come (Sony 55W950 came down to under 1.5 lacs from 2.3 lacs).

If you paid 66k then its gr8. Ove been at Samsung store today and asked for final price after so much of argument, he came up with 73k.

Guys if any one can clear, the.retailer told me that F series in 5500 is discontinued. Now new model came in with joy plus. It's H series. Can any one clear if that's true.
Joy and new joy plus series

Was the dealer taking about the LED series F5500? The 2013 had seen an overlap in Samsung LED & Plasma - UNxxF5500 for LED, and PN/PSxxF5500 for Plasma. The Joy series of more affordable LED TV was there in 2013 as well.
