Samsung Plasma 51F5500 Owners Thread /Reviews/Discussions!!

Thanks anubisX and sunil

Again called customer care.It seems that the prices have been revised after september 2013 and nearest service center doesn't know that  (Customer care person told me this) so people from customer care have informed the revised price here and a person from service center came today itself and i got the warranty. It is 9669 for 3 yrs(inclusive of tax)

Thanks to the friends here for providing information about the price of extended warranty :)

Those who have got extended warranty, i have a doubt.

In the extended warranty bill they have written just the code for the 3yrs warranty. Is it enough? Pls check your bill and tell me

Need to follow up with Samsung customer care, they still have not sent the extended warranty person to complete the formalities.

@gemini bought the tv and got 2 years extended warranty under some offer of bajaj finance for 3200.

so total 3 years warranty 1( default) + 2 ( extended ) = 320 x 10 months.

:)

Hi,

I have been watching the TV in the low settings for more than 3 months now.
( From mid October'13). Ran the breakin slides almost daily basis ( on the average 1 hr/ daily ) and watched the DTH, DVDs etc regularly. Did not check the usage hours. Anyway it will be more than 300 hrs.

Yesterday I have changed the setting as per the CNET picture setting ( with minor changes)
But initially we felt uneay in watching as we were used to watch in low contrast setting. The lower contrast was much easy for eyes. Hope we will get adjusted to this new setting. The cell light in the CENT setting was 20 and not sure I really wanted the full cell light. So changed to 16 which looked comfortable. Before the high setting did not feel any heat/warm feeling even I stand close to the screen. After this setting screen is getting more warm after few hrs of usage.

-Settings Menu

Pic Mode Movie
Cell Light 16
Contrast 95
Brightness 45
Sharpness 0
Color 49
Tint G48

--Advanced Settings menu
Dynamic Contrast Off
Black Tone Off
Flesh Tone 0
RGB ONly Mode Off
Color Space Auto
Gamma 0
Motion Lighting Off [greyed out]

-Picture options menu
Color Tone Warm2
Digital Clean View Off
MPEG Noise Filter Off
Black Optimizer Auto

-Picture Size menu
Picture Size Zoom

--White Balance submenu
R-Offset 25
G-Offset 25
B-Offset 25
R-Gain 25
G-Gain 25
B-Gain 23

I would like to know from experts.
1) Is this setting fine ( specifically contrast setting of 95). Please share if any other settings/ modifications needed.
2) I hope I don't have to run again the breakin slides. But is it good to run the slides occassionally in this setting to have uniform pixel illumination?

Thanks for the support and guidance.

Ye it will be more than 200 -300 hrs . But I did not change in to higher setting.
Now it is in movie mode with contrast and brightness at 45. Cell light at10.
Started viewing channels in normal way without zoom.

Planning to change the setting as per CNET , plasmatvbuyingguide settings.

Please share the break up of the extended warranty. Today i got a call from the extended warranty team and he is telling 3 years warranty would cost around 15,900. After 14.5 % Vat they are putting some service tax.

Hello Friends.
After a waiting period of 3 weeks I got the set installed couple of days back.
A lot of thanks to all the guys contributed in this forum for guidance to a newbie from the decision making to buy a plasma TV and the initial care in run in period etc etc to the extended warranty.:clapping: In fact the samsung tech who came for installation and demo when I was away, did not explain the run in care / extended warranty to my wife at all; but just kept the settings in standard mode. There lies the importance of this forum. Nevertheless the TV is stunning even in low contrast setting. :ohyeah:
I am yet to call the samsung CC for extended warranty.

Enjoy your new TV !
The installation guys are not much aware of break in period etc. So they set everything to high.

Hello friends
I m new here and want to buy a tv, this is my first time for such a big screen. Earlier i was settled for 4900ar but neither it was fullHD nor was smart. For smart feature, i thought of buying an android box but couldn't compromise on fullHD and extra features provided in f5500. So after lot of research i found this tv perfect for all my needs and i decided to extend my budget for f5500, afterall we dont buy tv everyday. So i went to few shops in delhi but got disappointed with the price. I read this thread and found price varying between 66-71k along with freebies and bdp or home theater. However i found nothing like this on shops and they were quoting 72k. At the end of the day after bargaining hard i managed to make the sales-guy of a shop to agree with 68k without any freebies but after all the formalities he said tv is not available, but he said that if we find this somewhere else just tell them and they will deliver it to us at same price.
I want to know if this price is more, do i have scope for more bargaining. The price listed online is 69k-72k on infibeam ,airtel, reliance, indiatimes. I was wondering if i could get bdp with even 71k . I haven't visited reliance digital yet btw. I'll go there on sunday.

thanks for your opinions

Must be the demand.. It's a good package for what the tv has to offer.. So.. Try visiting reliance digital.. Pay a small cash up front and book a piece for you.. Where are u from?

Free BDP was part of Diwali offer. After that the price was around 76K in many places and stock was less.
Your price is good.

Woke up from a relaxing lazy Saturday afternoon nap and drove to nearby mall.

Got off the lift and started walking around.

Went into Reliance Digital casually.

Wily salesman asked if we'd like a demo. Son said why not.

Went into this room with sofa and all, sat down. Salesman gave demo.

Blew the socks off everyone of us (yes, we've been living under a rock I guess).

Been researching this since then (most of the weekend so far). Read all 48 pages here.

Had to tell the above. So registered. "Hello World". Must thank all of you for a great thread !!! On a fantastic Forum !!!

Btw, that wily salesman almost had me plonk down 76.5k for the tv with 2 glasses (no other freebies). Almost. I'll look around for other offers now. (Bangalore specific) buying advice welcome. Also, anyone bought the Skype camera addon?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
