Samsung Plasma 51F5500 Owners Thread /Reviews/Discussions!!

Re: some doubts please answer

I have not connected set top box and going to play movies through hard disk for some time to avoid logos in tv channels.

1)When i played movies which has black bars through usb, there is no option to zoom. How to do it?

go to tools and then look for settings. there is option to remove black bars or zoom to remove black bars. i have personally checked that option in the tv.

2)How to disable subtitles?

hard coded subtitles cannot be removed. they are along with the print.

Owners of this tv please answer

Can't you Zoom it from the remote ? Isn't there a Mode or Aspect button on the remote ? You can use that to Zoom or Fill the screen. Try different modes and see whichone completely removes any static logo or the black bars. Keep the contrast below 50 or 35 like I kept on my TV (Panasonic). Brightness to 0 or below that or whatever low settings you have. Run those Scrolling Bars or Color Slides whenever you can.

There are no options of removing subtitles from your TV, it's gotta be removed from your hard disk if there's a subtitle file. If the subtitles are hard-subbed then it's a pain otherwise you can just remove or rename the subtitle files if you want to avoid those.

If you have a laptop or PC, connect the TV to that to watch movies and play games.

Watching in standard mode and i have kept everything under 35 :). Downloaded color slides and running it often but what are these scrolling bars ?.Is it available in the tv itself or should i download it?

Perfect. Thanks a lot :). Now i am able to watch the movie in full screen mode and also able to turn off the subtitles :clapping:

While watching movies is it ok to just switch off the tv to remove the hard disk.Is there a option to safely remove the hard disk instead of just switching off the tv .Also there is no option to go to the next track(movies which has chapters). It has just forward and rewind options.Any idea?

I have been using disconnecting the HDD the same way with no issues. However, believe me you will quickly realise that you need a dedicated media player. Especially when you are dealing with rips of sizes above 25 GB. I have seen audio getting out of sync after a pause or fast forward.

Hello Everyone.
I just joined this forum, but I was following up this site, especially this page for almost 8 months.
Finally I decided to purchase this one, the ps51f5500. First time for plasma.
Booked it for 69.9 k with no freebees.
Expected to get delivery this weekend.
Do you need a voltage stabilizer for this tv? If yes which one is better?
Thanks in advance

I wouldn't take the risk of running it without a stabiliser. I have been using this Plasma with APC UPS 1500va which is overkill. A 800va UPS also should do. I am using UPS because I have a HTPC along with it. So I am protecting two devices with same UPS.

Couldn't see my earlier reply. Replying again.

I wouldn't take the risk of running it without a good voltage stabilizer. I have been using this Plasma with APC UPS 1500VA; which is a overkill. A 800VA UPS should also do the job. The reason for using a UPS rather than stabilizer is to run the setup uninterrupted during power cuts. That should keep my STB recordings going on and allow me enough time to shutdown the HTPC & Plasma.

Hi,

most of us who have brought 51f5500 around Diwali must have completed the break-in period of 200 hours or more with low settings.

Please share your new settings with higher contrast etc. which should have definitely increased picture quality.

Congrats !
Using vguard crystal plus stabilizer and belkin surge protector.
Did you also check for extended warranty? It will be worth and peace of mind for 3 or 4yrs.

Ye it will be more than 200 -300 hrs . But I did not change in to higher setting.
Now it is in movie mode with contrast and brightness at 45. Cell light at10.
Started viewing channels in normal way without zoom.

Planning to change the setting as per CNET , plasmatvbuyingguide settings.

Thank you for the advice.
Surely I will be going for extended warranty. How much it costs on an average? I am yet to get delivery of the set.
Will it be good idea to use an AC stabilizer for these TV+ accessories? The reason I have a 1.5 yr old single boost stabilizer for my 1.5T AC which I wanted to upgrade to double boost as advised by the AC service man. (Will a double boost stabilizer improve AC function at low voltage peak time??) So I could buy a new one for AC and use old one for TV+BDP+HT+STB.

Regards
Vijay

Extended warranty cost was Rs.8400 + tax for 3 yrs. It was before few months and not sure about any changes in this cost now.

I am not very sure about using AC stab for TV. You may want to check this with a good technician or some expert.
Vguard Crystal plus can drive 50inch PDP, BDP, DTH and many of the 51f5500/50S60 owners are using it.

Called customer care for extended warranty. They said it will be 8400+tax and also said that they will call later and will provide further details as the tax varies from state to state. It seems they have redirected the information to the people here in Tamilnadu and today i got a call from the local number and they said it is 19000 for 3 yrs inclusive of tax .They said some technician will come and inspect the tv and we can get extended warranty. Why there is so much difference in the warranty price?

@vijay Since u are from chennai, if u get some info about extended warranty price pls share it here.

No way it can be Rs.19000 !!!
Rs.8400 + Tax is correct.
Technician's visit, inspection etc are not required to get the extended warranty.
Please call Samsung customer care and let then know about it.
Ask the customer care nearest Samsung service center who can provide extended warranty. All you need to do is contact the service center with TV purchase bill.
