Showcase Your Turntable

Here are the pics of my TT setup. I have two TT setups one of them is Philips HiQ International that my late father once assembled (he was a engineer in Philips manufacturing) in 1980s and has a built in stereo amplifier with Tone, Bass control with its own set of speakers. It pays 33 and 45 RPM recorss only.

My other TT is Numark PT01USB which I bought from US in 2009, plays 33/45/78 RPM records, has a carry handle, can run on 6 D-Cell batteries for mobility and has abuilt in speaker (Mono). I play that via its stereo output through my Denon 1911 / MS Aviano 6. Most importantly it has USB output using which vinyls can be archived to MP3 (using proprietary Numark software), never tried this option though)

Lastly my vinyl collection has around 70 vinyls all collection of my late father, I am looking to purchase some new but not getting some which is a balance between quality, availability and price :) For the safekeeping of the records recently I have stored the 45 RPM records in a Crossley carry case (US import) and the 33/78 Records in a Aluminium lined Eurolite LP70 Case whoch can hold upto 70 records. Additionally each record has been inserted into acid free paper sleeves inner / outer and polythene sleeves for protecting the records that still have the outjacket left :).

I used to have the same Numark, that I also bought in around 2008/2009. It was my first TT. It was cool to use at first, but then I eventually moved on to more solid turntables. I found the PT01 a bit too flimsy for my liking. What I found that I didn't like, at least with my model ( I read online that others too were facing the same issue) is that the metal material used to get unglued and scrape the bottom of my record as it was playing. Damaged a few of my records. If yours is working fine that's great, but just be careful that glue doesn't come off.

Happy listening! Looks very well kept, especially like the record boxes!

HiSaikat,
Very neatly and passionately kept and maintained. The records are properly labelled with cardboard separators. Wow.
Specially the LP and EP boxes are great. Thanks for the pictures.

thank you for warning me, i will keep an extra eye on that, so far good going. There is a scope of upgrade that i would definitely like to consider after 1 - 2 years. For now i am on lookout for vinyl cleaning solution since there is a restrictiom on importing liquids.

I've taken up a new project, I'm restoring an old turntable I have. It's a 1979 Sansui P-M7. Dimensions (WHD): 345 x 95 x 360 mm / 13.6 x 3.7 x 14.2 inches
That looks very like a turntable that I had sometime in early 1980s, which bore the name "Akai" I think.

However exotic TTs may be, the basic mechanism, in theory at least, remain simple. Not so with these transverse-arm babies. It was a wonderful party piece, but, when I could no longer resist the temptation to look inside, a found a whole host of ICs and sensors that control the mechanism that moves the arm I predicted, correctly, that this would be the first item of my first all-my-own-hifi to fail. It lasted years --- but a simply-mechanical TT would have made that decades.

When it failed, a local repair shop told me that nothing could be done because of the need of one spare part, no longer available.

I wish you well for your restoration, and hope you will post more about it :)

haisaikat,

Very well preserved set up. I had a HiQ International till very recently ( 33 1/3, 45 & 78 rpm).

I am curious to know about protecting the records with acid free paper sleeves - where does one get these from?

Regards

Nice clean set up Mahiruha. I like the idea of the bookshelf behind the speakers. Will act as a diffusor

Thanks Avidyathy , TaureanBull.

@Prem I fully agree the bookshelf do make a big contribution to the sound. The room has bookshelves in all four walls. I had to move my system to the living room in my house due to some work in the present room but didn't like the sound at all in that room which is really big and has lot of big glass windows. It lacked warmth. In this room it is perfect to my taste.

Acid Free paper sleeves differ from ordinary paper sleeves in a way that they have the capability to absorb moisture. I do not think any Indian site except ebay Global Easy buy allows you to make this purchase online but global Easy Buy charges quite a high price for these. If you have 78 records then our fellow HFVan Gerry_the_Merry has some surplus 78 sleeves (acid free) which he may be able to trade with you, PM him if required. Regarding the other sizes you have to look for US / UK based websites for a deal with international shipping. I purchased mine from alpha01music Sesser on ebay.com and used Aramex / USPS international shipping.

Btw I am on lookout to purchase the cleaning liquid from within India but still no luck to telling everyone to throw their pointers on this. Cannot import this due to import restrictions on chemicals.

Hi jls001

I use Mofi inner sleeves for all my lps. They do not look like paper to me. Looks more like some sort of plastic. Even if it uses paper on one side, there is some plastic coating on both sides of the paper
