Sony launches a new Blu-ray player at Rs. 9,999/-

Can somebody talk about this player's 2 channel audio capabilities ?

I have tested playing CDs and MP3 files. Plays them well, sounded as good as playing on others and did not find any problem with the audio. I use an optical cable to connect to my amp and encoding was fine, no hitch for amp's audio features.

However, it is a very plain vanilla player when it comes to audio, i.e. absolutely no other features (or at least I could not find). Does not display even track/file information (when not connected to Internet) and just displays them as T1, T2 etc. even on the TV.

This statement is in comparison with my other player which has a host of features such as - displays file names, selecting only specific tracks and playing them in the sequence I want, a good graphical display and user interface to do this on the TV, can set up wake up alarm to get up to music etc.

Hi Everyone,

The following link seems to offer a mod kit for the Sony BDP-S370. What are your views on this? Could this be genuine, I mean, work properly or mess up your player?

Sony Mod Kits

The sad part is that they're only offering it as a door-to-door service and they dont seem to ship it for India. :(

Nitin

I have written to these people to see if they will train some of us and send the mod kits in small quantities. Let us see what they say.

Cheers

Okay people, Sony has just launched (or is about to launch) the BDP-S470. Functionally, it's IDENTICAL to the 370 with the exception of 3D playback. No price has been announced as of today on Sony's site.

Of interest to us 370 users is the WIFI dongle for the BD player, but it would be Sony to price this ridiculously and so they have - at a ludicrous Rs 4,700/- :annoyed:

Sony Bluray player BDP-S370 Issue

Greetings Everyone!

I'd recently purchased the Sony Bluray BDP-S370 player. Everything works fine except I'm unable to play certain mkv files due to some unknown reason. The player displays the file is either corrupt or unsupported. This happens to certain files only.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? If yes, any fixed used / available?

Please suggest.

regards,

Nitin.

I bought one for the Panny BD80 from this site. This is genuine place to buy. They charged 25Euros to ship to India.

Does anyone hav this problem with BDP s370 - while playing any DVDRip.Xvid.AC3.5.1, if i fast forward, the audio and video syncing changes. There will be atleast 10secs delay in Audio and Video. i'll have to watch the entire movie without fast forwarding.Any suggestions i can try out.

Is Sony still giving the 2 free blu ray titles with this player?
If so, what titles are they??
Pls reply soon as i need to buy a BD player soon.

Oh man! The crappiest movies of the year. Jeez! What a shame. No wonder they are free.

Bounty hunter is definitely the worst movie... A disgrace to such a versatile actor - Gerard Butler.

2012 is good in terms of visual and sound effects.

Previous ones were much better combination. This Is It & Legion.

Atleast when i bought this player, i got some good BD's as samples (Legion and This is It).

Talk about beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

I am no fan of Jackson's so, "This Is It" is quite useless to me. :p I haven't bothered to see "Legion" as yet. So my discs are still sealed. :D I'll borrow "Legion" from my friend who also has the player and will watch it one of these centuries, to see if it is a keeper or not. :p Sony also bundled Resistance 2 with my PS3 which I have no interest in, whatsoever.

I have also tried a 160 GB hard disk formatted in NTFS. It didn't work and this explains it. Thanks for quoting the above. FAT disks can be up to 32 GB, but cannot have files larger than 4 GB. Not sure why Sony support said that only up to 16 GB can be supported. Anyway, alas! This is a limitation in today's media world.

There are some partitioning tools available that can partition/format an HDD of more than 32 GB in size - eg.:CompuApps SwissKnife :) . However, the 4 GB file size limitation remains.
