The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

I always play 24p at 24p.

24p at 24p is not stable I guess. This is because film material is not suitable for tvs. So the tvs make it a 48hz or 72hz or 96hz by duplicating frames 2 or 3 or 4 times respectively.
So do you set the bluray player to output at 24hz?
But the tv may be inherently doing a 48hz or 72hz I guess.

?? What do you mean.

What I mean is, if you are not taking adequate protection to prevent IR, and especially during the first 200 hours when phosphors are young and not properly aged, you are taking huge (huge) risk. Pixel orbiting is not adequate protection. IR is still an issue, never mind what manufacturers say. Yes. It is quite reduced, but not eliminated. :)

Don't say I didn't warn. :)

Does f8500 have 96hz mode to play 24hz content?
This mode is not present on my st50. So I settle for 60hz.

Dirac,
Just require a clarification. As far as I know, ST50 (the Indian version) doesn't have an option to change the fps rate. So when you say that you settle for 60hz, are you saying that you have an option to operate at 60hz ? US version of ST50 seems to have the option of selecting the fps.

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

There is no provision to change frame rate, or select any hertz. All you can do is to select the option for "intelligent frame creator" (equivalent for motion smoothing) and "24p smooth film" (for 24p source). The options are: off/min/med/max.

What I meant was that I set my bd player to go for 2:3 pulldown mode. This mode is shown on the tv as 1080p 60hz.

Hi
I have also been looking at buying a large screen TV. Which is better among the Panny 65VT30 and the 65ST50? The VT series should be better but it shows a G14 panel versus a G15 panel on the ST50.
Also is it worth looking at a 60 inch Sharp LED or a 55 inch LG or Sony LED which are slightly cheaper than these plasmas?
Thanks
G

ST50 is more or less at par with VT30. But both are not available or available from display piece stocks.

Thanks just4kix
The 65VT30 is THX certified while the 65ST50 is not. The VT is normally a higher series. Both are available with certain dealers and not with others.

Sharp led are mostly imported and few months back got a lcd.The clarity and pq is very good.Had seen their 60 inch lcd.It was awesome in Hd.Take a demo and decide.

Just back from Ezone this evening..............here is something interesting, on display they had a huge sharp 60inch LED for Rs 1.18L sitting next to the new Samsung 43F4900 for 42k. And guess which looked better??? This is bright showroom light on the display window.

As surprised as I was............the 1L LED was no match for the 42k plasma only looking at picture quality. The LED was brighter but overall picture quality was better on the plasma. And since I was with other people as well I asked them for their opinion. And all agreed the plasma looked better.

Samsung 43F4900

Hi aakashr, I'm considering this TV as i cant find any reviews of 43f4100 online. From the specs it looks that these two are the same (one is US model): Samsung 43F4900 Plasma TV | Samsung 43 inch Black Plasma TV and Specs - Plasma TV PN43E450A1F | Samsung TVs.

Do you think so as well?
Any comments about the life of this samsung? It's a bit over my budget but I can spend as I'm totally sold (in general) on the PQ of plasma as opposed to LED / LCD.

thanks for any response
