The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Maybe I am asking this in the wrong Thread, but really how is the PQ compared to the Panasonic p60s60. I am currently using the P42V20D, and I would like a comparison with that to be honest. As I am looking for a larger plasma, I dont want or need any of the smart Tv features nor do i care so much for 3D, my concern is only PQ, and also I am somehow tilting towards the 60"as I dont know if 64" might just have too large a pixel size, for my viewing distance. what do you guys suggest,
has anyone compared the two...?

Hi,

After an elobrate search for a 50 inch plasma tv and followed by review reports in this forum, as well as other i narrowed down to 2013 models: Samsung 51F4900 and Panasonic 50S60D.

Now i wish to look forward your help in drilling down to the final one out of the above.

I watch SD channels - 65% of time ; 35% of time on HD(dth) channels. I dont own a blue ray player, PS3 stuffs and no plans to go for it in the next five years, atleast. I rarely watch movies via pen drive. This tv is going to be in our media room and hence illumination in the room is fully under my control.

The tv dealer holds fresh stock in hand and agreed for the best price as follows: F4900 - Rs.56K ; S60 - Rs.76K.

Please guide me with your recommendation.

Is 4900 a Full hd plasma?
S60 is a fhd plasma.
Between the two S60 is far superior to 4900 in my view.

F4900 is 720p plasma. I will be worth to pay extra for a full HD panel above 50inches.
You can check out the next model 51F5500 which is full hd or 50S60.

Intend to demo the S60D this week.
Many thanks.

Not sure about the availability in Bombay. But now one 50ST60D is available in bangalore Brand shop.

Thank you for your suggestion. How is the performance of s60 inhandling SD picture. As it is a full hd tv, i has to upscale the SD twice its source. So will there be any issue ? I felt like motion blurr is pritty high when a full hd tv handles an SD source. PS60 users could share their experience.

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

I checked and saw the P50S60D and the 42GT50. Picked up the 42GT50. Installation tomorrow hopefully. Thank you experts for your advice.

Run the slides? Low settings? Won't the THX Cinema setting help?

Thank you for recommending Full hd tv. How is the SD(dth) picture quality in panasonic s60. We watch lots of sd than hd.

One "50ST60d" available now in brand shop, Bangalore.

Please let me know, if anyone is interested.

I'd be interested. Can you please PM me the dealer details? I have placed an order for F5500 but thank my stars, the dealer doesn't have a sealed piece. Would anyday prefer the Pana.

I demoed both the 42GT50 & the 50S60D together. In PQ the former one hands down. Opted for it. Hope it sizzles at home :-)

Congrats on buying 42GT50.
Check the hours usages in TV. As from the different expert opinion and What I experience from my S60 1st 150-250 hours are crucial for plasma display. Run the slide to uniformly age phosphorus and watch TV in zoom mood for this period. You will notice PQ improve significantly over time. BTW I never had a chance to demo ST60(wanted to buy it) or GT50.

Thank you.

I will check the usage when the Panasonic technician comes over to install.
Will also check with him steps to avoid IR. Shouldn't flipping channels after say every 30 minutes in THX Cinema mode be adequate to avoid/negate the risk of IR?

Panasonic technicians don't know much about this issue with plasma. the guy came to my house even don't know how to open the service menu. When I opened it for him to check usage hour he told me not to open it again. I know if you mess up with service menu accidentally you will be in really big trouble. Lucky for me S60 has a option in normal menu to check usages hours. I don't know if Gt 50 has it or not.

what was the price for 42Gt50? GT50 is any-day better than s60. If ST60 is available I would advised you to go for that. But why didn't you went for 50"?

Just to share my experience..
At first I also thought I will go for 42" as tv will be in my bedroom. But one day I saw a X50 in ezone and that size just grab my attention, And decided to go for 50", Further find that s60 is avilabe in 50" and 60" size. Now 50" look perfectly normal(even better) from 9'-10' distance. In my office we have a 42" display, now it looks pretty small in size from that distance.
