The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

4k and over enthusiasm of oled offtake killed plasma.
Yup, at CES there was hardly any talk of current 1080p models; every manufacturer's booth seemed only interested in promoting 4K and OLED, even though you can hardly find them in shops. Over enthusiasm indeed.

But let's not discount the fact that Panasonic's plasma division was losing money. IF plasmas were hugely profitable, none of the manufacturers would have dropped them so quickly.

Buying 4k and OLED is one challenge and having content to play is another bigger challenge. We still do not have enough HD content on television, blurays are still very expensive and beyond common man's reach. OLED would be only for the rich who can afford such fancy tv and prices.I don't think they will get cheaper in India at least for the next 2 to 3 years.

Thanks for the efforts of panny and sammy, for the past one or two years, plasmas were on radar of almost all picture quality enthusiasts.
Especially i should say that the turning point was the st50.
Cnet giving it 5 stars and it being affordable, made people to put st50 in their list of "want to have" list.
Every forum was brimming with plasma talk.
And sammy forever destroyed the myth of plasmas being dim.
All was going well in fact.
But alas..everything came down so quickly...

Panasonic plasma experts,

I am exploring to buy a 50 inch Panasonic plasma tv, in Bombay. Any info. on availability of models from Panasonic dealers will be helpful; and the price points too.
I guess I should be looking at the P50X60 & the P50S60; reckon I won't be lucky enough to buy the P50ST60.

Am I to understand from your reply that the models I referred to are unavailable?
Any pointers to reliable dealers in Bombay, Thane, Nasik?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I only meant that you can go for any of them depending on their availability.

Between the three - 50X60, 50S60 & 50ST60, assuming all three are available, do you have any recommendations for and / or against. If so, why?
I am not a gamer, but love watching films, news, wildlife/science programmes & sports (especially F1) programmes.

St60 is the best . The entire world will vouch for its PQ.
In this thread there is a link posted by me which has the images of st60 in action.
One look at them will make you want it by hook or crook.
I am sure you would be ready to import it, if it is not available in India.

Guys, sharing my ZT60 saga..
Minimal testing done at Best Buy stores.
Now it is in transit.
By the way, it seems the last of zts is over at Best buy, where mine was bought for 2300$.
Currently the price shot up and Amazon is selling at 3000$..lucky me..

I received my Panasonic 50DT60 as replacement and had to pay the difference amount. It's 1.28L now and they billed me 1.10L from Panasonic India.

I'm really impressed with the 3D it delivers and overall PQ is good as I only use it as monitor and no TV viewing. But I was having a plasma for past 6-months and so I am little disappointed when it comes to black. The dark scenes are showing clouding at the corners and PQ is really affected when you see from an angle and it shows especially when in dark room. I haven't played any BDs yet but I was watching the HD-rips and I wasn't impressed. I really miss the liveliness of plasma. My 46K plasma delivered double.

The clouding in the semi-dark scene.

Hi Issigonis,
I have been off the hifivision radar for the last month and half due to some committments, but glad to be of help to someone immediately after logging on again :-)

It would be very difficult for you to get the ST60, I tried in vain for 2 months.

I ultimately bought the 50S60 in December 2013,you should get it at the Ghatkopar Brand Shop, please get back to me if you need any information.

Cheers and welcome to the Panny Club soon :-)

Today received my Pana 50s60. installation guy will come on Monday. Great eastern told me they will return price difference for st60 which I was booked (through bajaj fin) in check within 10 days. Agni didn't reply on price he has brought. mine was Rs 69000.

Sorry Buddy, have been busy and not logged on for the last month and half almost, that's why haven't replied to you.

You got a great deal on your S60, mine is 4k more, so Cheers :-)

That's good news that finally your issue is resolved. The pictures you have got of clouding are something similar on my Dell Ultrasharp lcd in corners and it is an IPS panel. Is it back light bleeding as it looks exactly the same way on my IPS monitor on complete dark or black scenes.

Post your experience i won't go for Panasonic, as their policies won't gel with me. Samsung is better that way. Also no more plasma from them so its become a deal breaker.

Do post some reviews on the set once you have it all set up and calibrated.

Enjoy your TV.

Before demoing (and deciding on the P50S60D) does anyone here have contact details of a reliable source of info. in Panasonic India who can give me definitive information on the availability (or otherwise) of the P50ST60?

Intend to demo the S60D this week.
Many thanks.
