The Beauty Comes Home Tomorrow - PS58C6500

how is it performing during day time and what is the lighting condition?

I have it set up in my bedroom, where i have curtains drawn most of the time, so i have not faced any issues, even with light the PQ is not bad at all, now just waiting to complete the 150 hours , then i can start playing around with the settings.

Well Buddy, you took the words out of my mouth. I am trying to get the Blue Ray rip for Avatar from a friend, he would copy and give the same to me on a portable hdd. The size is coming upto 45 gb.

First thing i did was using a usb drive i updated the firmware on the TV, the one on the TV was 1007, i downloaded and upgraded to the latest July 2010 firmware 1012 from the Samsung site.

Also i played around with the network capabilities of the set last night. After enabling DLNA and installing Samsung PC share on my PC. i was able to navigate the folders in my PC through the TV itself and tested out couple of files.

It played MKV,AVI files smoothly without any issues through wired LAN. The max size file i played was a 8gb and the playback was smooth without any issues.

Next will play around with the internet TV and see whats in store , though i don't plan to do much with it.

Mate, waiting for some pics of your Tv experiences...

@Dushie
Have you noticed any color banding/posterisation issues? This is an issue I have been facing with the 50C550, specially while watching SD channels more specifically channels with poor quality. Star World, Zee Cafe, AXN, Star Movies & HBO seem to exhibit the most problems.

Also, do you know what the actual difference between the C550 and the C6500 are? I am considering getting either a 50C6500 or the 58C6500 but cannot find the differences on the Samsung website.

:indifferent14: <discussing pirated content>

I can't believe you spent that much money on a TV and cant afford a blu ray player. Why don't you get a PS3 or something...Blu Ray discs have dropped in price and you can now easily get most good movies for around 700-800 bucks from Amazon...

Sanjay i have not noticed any banding issues, till now have been using it for 3 to 4 hours daily from last one month watching HD rips and TS HD. Also the C550 and the C6500 series are different. The PS50C6500 does not have any such issues, but very few people have the same as its on the costlier side.
After the 6 series, the 7 series starts which is 3D.

Please visit the Samsung site as both models are listed there and you can compare

Plasma TV - Television | SAMSUNG

@Chaos : Personally i don't believe in buying a Blu Ray Player as i have Xtreamer from last one year that does most of the duty and plays everything i throw at it.I also have 1 TB portable hdd which i have connected to my Xtreamer and i watch most of the stuff on it.

Problem is I can't see any real difference based on the specs listed on the website. Also, the comparison feature on Samsung's website does not work.

Apart from being thinner and having internet apps
6500 has 10pt white balance and custom color space settings.
Provided the indian model is same as the US
This may be useful for dialling out any banding problems

however i am not sure about the comparative black level and resulting contrast though

Thanks 'borg.
Apparently the primary difference is a thinner panel that also has a higher contrast ratio which I suppose ought to translate into deeper blacks.

Dynamic contrast ratio:
C6500 - 5,000,000:1
C550 - 2,000,000:1

I was referring to AVS reviewer/ thx calibrator chad b's reviews
he hasnot reviewed c6500

In his review of c550 he says

"The resulting black level was a surprisingly good .011 fL, and the modified ANSI contrast ratio was a superb 2470:1! Since these measurements were so much better than I expected, I double checked them with similar results. In a dark room, the C550 should have an outstanding amount of pop and contrast"

and his review of c7000 (this is a thinner and 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio panel like 6500 plus 3D) he says

"Later, after a full cool down period, the black level measured around .026 fL (see link below). Black had a very slightly greenish cast. The modified ANSI contrast ratio measured 958:1"

but i checked his thread now and found that ,samsung fixed these issues with a firmware update

I am planning on getting the PS50C6500 and have read quite a bit (mostly US/EU forums) about the infamous Samsung Buzz during white /high contrast scenes and zero volume(silent) scenes.

Have you experienced any of that so far?

Can you post your Build number/date? Apparently a fix was made in July 2010 and the later builds were fine (albeit with a very minimal buzz when you put your ear to the panel).

P.S. I had sent you a Personal Message but then realized that this would be helpful to others as well.

Hi All
Sorry for the slow response last week has been hectic lot of things happened and finally the TV has turned up yesterday evening. Have got it set up, will be posting some pictures but my camera is pretty old and with flash it was coming white, still i have managed to take some shots. As i am in the burn in period, Contrast, brightness everything is in low 40's and 50's , i have disabled all auto features and using the set in movie mode with low settings for the first 150 odd hours. I have not done any calibration and will only do that couple of months down the line once i cross 150 hours.

Posted pictures of NG HD where some programs was coming on snakes due to the camera there is a reflection coming on left hand side in the form of a line which is being caused by the plastic cover on the side and top panel.

Star Sports HD

am i the only person seeing this it seems that you may have 2 dead or stuck pixels if you can see carefully in the star sports picture one is under wayamba and the other one is near the champions league logo near the south african flag what did you do about these pixels:sad:

Just wanted to update the thread on Samsung failure rate, have an issue with my tv where the lan port and USB are not working, Samsung engineer came down said PCB has to be changed, it will cost 5.3 k, including service charge cost will come up to 7.5k. Now they are saying they dont have the part in stock and they will put 33% depreciation for a 3 year old set and pay me the balance money. I spent 1.6 lakhs on the TV, hardly 3 years old and just because they do not have a part work 6 k in stock i am loosing more than 10 times that amount. If anyone knows any higher ups in samsung let me know, i want to escalate and push this cause its not acceptable,as of now they are giving me a runaround between the Service center and customer care, there is no escalation matrix or standard of support here.

Now stuck as i have to take a call on the same.

A facebook page has been created for everyone to post if they are having an issue with Samsung. I have also posted there.
