The Movies I Liked

Sabotage .... I dont understand why so much of hate for this movie, yes its not the best of this incredibly talented directer David Ayer (End of watch, street Kings, Harsh Times) I have seen all and all are top quality, in comparison Sabotage falls shot, but as an independent film it is pretty decent. The action is gripping, brutal and with innovative camera shots as is with other Ayer Movies. Even thought Arnold is labelled as a cardboard actor in many scenes where he is expected to give emotions, I still love him for the action icon figure he is. I thoroughly enjoyed The last Stand and Escape Plan which was the best for me by Arnold in his post governer acting career apart from the obvious The Expendables.

Sabotage is not bad at all either, infact I enjoyed Arnold in a different role than what usually is been given to him and expected, even thought yes his performance is somewhat wooden, but it has enough not to make his movies sink completely. Rest of the cast is good as well and I particularly enjoy the performance of Mireille Enos ("Lizzy"). and seeing her after her marathon performance in the ultimate TV series The Killing it was worth.

The major drawback I might add is the plot, which could have been more deep and intense, though it was not bad, but I would say given Ayer's movies the plot was the weakest part. Next was the who dun it, twist at the end, it was not as satisfying as I might have hoped for neither was too convening. Given these facts I would say it still was a decent watch able arnie flick and I was glued to the seat the entire duration ......6.8/10 for this

Veronica Mars [2014] ...... Being a die hard fan of Veronica Mars TV show I was looking fw to this movie. VM was one of those shows (for me atleast) that grips you from just two hours you are in to the season one, and never lets your go. (Latest One being "switched at Birth").

Anyway the movie is one of the best TV series follow up apart from Serenity which is THE best for me. It sincerely remains true to the characters and follows the same, charismatic, amazing sense of humour girl, Veronica Mars who has that knack for solving crimes. This time as well she has a murder mystery to solve involving his ex boyfriend and a great character from TV series Logan Echolls.

The biggest problem with this movie is that it tries to remain too much true to the old plot and this would be a complete let down for a person who will see this movie without the TV series. It will be a dud for him. (unlinke serenity, in which case the movie in itself was pretty cool) But anyway I have read this movie was made by the fans financing the project and I must say in that regard its a satisfying movie that would have made the fans love it.

For those who have not seen the TV series, I would suggest to skip it, OR make sure you do watch the TV series (which IMHO is one of my TOP CLASS tv shows I have seen till now) ..... 6.8/10 for this one.

Fading Gigolo (2014) : Really nice movie by John Turturro and excellent acting by Woody Allen :) Really classic. Good to see Sharon Stone back ;) Some might find this movie little boring but I liked it. Good time-pass :) Don't forget to watch !

Three Colors: Red (1994) - IMDb Very nice french arthouse cinema. The cinematography is excellent. Throughout the movie the color red is woven in each scene with great effect.

The way the lives of the characters intermingle and the ending is classic. The relationship between the girl and the retired judge is portrayed with minimalistic beauty.

^^ Watch "La double vie de Vronique" also right away. This is also by Krzysztof Kieslowski, and stars (and revolves around) the gorgeous Irene Jacob (from Rouge). This movie is considered to be "Gold", an unofficial fourth to the 3 Colors trilogy (Blue/Red/White).

Veronica Mars (2014) : I liked the dialogues by Veronica Mars and funny quotes by Dick, Logan's assiatant. Other than that I didn't like anything else. There wasn't any thrill in this movie.
Veronica lost her present boyfriend, Paz and also her chance at Truman-Mann & Associates on the same day and there wasn't any reaction on her face. It seemed like she didn't care about it. But she also couldn't express the love for Neptune that kept her pulling.
Logan seemed to be hopeless and on high melatonin doses and lacked energy. A good wholesome breakfast would solve that, I'm sure a Navy would know that.
Veronica's father got attacked seriously and the person next to her father was DOA (dead on arrival person, not motherboard :p) and yet she wasn't that shocked, didn't want Logan to leave and had sex instead. Not very clich. Didn't see that much in movies.
Who attacked her father and the deputy ?
There are other points I would like to comment on but I couldn't remember them.
Overall, I didn't get thrilled watching Veronica Mars. I don't know much about the TV show but this one made me fall asleep. Then again, it's my opinion and I would ask everyone to watch it, you might like it.

Without the TV series and being a fan there was in no way you could have liked the movie. I wonder what made you even go for it ....

I never heard of Veronica Mars before. Saw it on PirateBay and didn't have anything to watch new so downloaded it :D

That Awkward Moment (2014) :
Totally entertaining. The story is pretty common but the dialogues are totally hilarious :D Everyone played their part pretty nice. I laughed throughout the movie and it was a stress-buster for me. I wouldn't say anything more about this movie, you just have to watch it. Must watch !

That Awkward Moment (2014) - IMDb - It was ok, usual premise of a bromance and guys who hate commitment. It was very funny in parts but painfully embarrassing to watch at others. Performances are ok.

Watched Captain America, The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - IMDb

Finally got around to seeing this last night and I agree with most others, it was very, very good. Intense and well acted by everyone.

I am a big fan of the first Captain America movie, mostly due to the WWII setting and the way in which Chris Evans played Cap. It had the right mix of action and drama but had the added bonus of enough funny mixed in that I thought it all worked well. However, I may like Winter Soldier even more.

This movie was completely different in feel. Intense action throughout the movie combined with a great plot and more solid acting. ScarJo has completely sold me on being Black Widow and Chris Evans is Captain America. He is playing the role as good as it can be done. My only complaint is that they need to scale back on some of the crashes and destruction of everything. We don't have to have 30 car crashes and 10 helicarriers/jets crashing to fill up the screen. Outside of that, this film works and works well. Perfect mix of action and spy thriller. It's like James Bond on steroids. The directors gave more importance on filming live hand to hand action where possible and not using so much CGI in those scenes and that makes the film look grounded and realistic. I love the Winter Soldier as a villain and this movie actually makes Captain America an interesting character, Evans plays the role well and is fleshed much more then just the making up the numbers as he did in the Avengers.

Am surprised that no one has mentioned about The Raid 2. To me it's the best action movie I have watched yet. The plot is good but the movie is all about raw, brutal action choreography. The camerawork for the action scenes is also superb and some of the scenes makes you want to rewind the fights and watch it again just to appreciate what happened. An absolutely must watch for action film buffs. For me it's a 9/10

Yesterday I watched a movie called La Cara Oculta, English title is (The Hidden Face)

This is a thriller movie, where a reach musician's girlfriend suddenly ditches him for another guy which was unbelievable. Being depressed the musician brings another woman in his life (and house). The new woman slowly discovers the reason behind the sudden disappearance of the musician's former girlfriend.

The movie uses very minimal character with a very tight storyline and plot. Must watch who likes thriller and can deal with subtitles. :ohyeah:

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - IMDb

9/10. Went in knowing nothing about the movie (other than that its a marvel movie) and was pleasantly surprised. Now if only this 3d fad died out already and I could enjoy it in good old 2d instead of half baked 3d (mostly thanks to age old dim projector lamps in cinemas which are barely good for 2d, let alone 3d). Sigh....

Hercules (2014) - IMDb - A different take on the tale of Hercules. Its not the story of the legend, but Hercules is depicted as a man, albeit a very strong man. After the death of his family he roams as a mercenary for hire and is willing to fight anybody for the right price. The rest of the story is about how he has to fight his inner demons and believe in himself before he can save innocent people.

The story is limited, but more than makes up with good CGI and action sequences. Dwayne Johnson seems to have worked out even more and is an imposing figure and not much else is required of him in the acting department. The rest of the cast does their job well too.

Recommended if you are a Dwayne Johnson fan or in the mood for a good action movie that will not tax your brain too much. Better in 3D and the large screen if you are in Hyd. or have IMAX where the movie is playing.

so is that a coincidence that I saw the movie and wrote the review just when you as well saw it on TPB. Coz if you watched after reading my review, it would seem strange to criticize the movie ....

Caught up with the movie after anubisX's review. Personally I felt it was ok. It had its moments but Zac Efron was painful to watch with some of the not so funny jokes. Imogen Poots was ok too. Miles Teller was definitely wasted coming from The Spectacular Now or the upcoming Whiplash.

PS - Have not seen the Veronica Mars movie... waiting to catch up on the TV series first after I'm done with Vikings Season 2, Orphan Black and maybe Continuum too.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) - IMDb - Not much in terms of story, but a good action thriller that will keep you interested till the end and if nothing at least pretty Keira Knightley should do it.

I liked it and it's worth a one time watch.

PS - Harrison Ford's version of Jack Ryan is much better as seen in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger and the books by Tom Clancy are also highly recommended if you are into that genre.

I was little behind in watching movies for some time and now post having yamaha-299 enjoyed watching following movies last weekend:
1) Captain Philips
