The Movies I Liked

The Prestige

I would like to say that this is one of the movies which i enjoyed thoroughly. Very much engrossing.
The dialogues especially the ones that Michael Caine delivers are too good. Good photography too.
You will be tied up with the film and you can expect twists in the movie continuously.

Thanks,
Prakash.

Requiem For A Dream

A strong and disturbing movie. The movie is about how drug addiction affects the life of people. The movie is very raw and slow paced some times.

Thanks,
Prakash.

Excellent movie. I always enjoy Michael Caine's clipped accent. Its such a joy to hear as opposed to the usual American drawl:) Recently I also saw 'Flawless' featuring Michael Caine. Not a great movie, but again I enjoyed his sequences thoroughly.

Illusionist is another movie similar to Prestige which was enjoyable. Not as good as Prestige, but quite good.

If you are a Hugh Jackman fan, 'The Fountain' is a nice movie. I liked it, although I have known others to not like it as well. So, I guess that is fair warning:)

+1 to the Prestige.

The end is fantastic and the concept of bringing Tesla was also very good.

I love all of Christopher Nolan's movies - Batman begins, Dark Knight, Memento.

If you guys like Michael Caine, I am sure you would have loved 'Cider House Rules' too.

All bourne movies and any movie even in the future based on robert ludlum novels...if it is robert ludlum,,I have to see it. Period.

One of the better Michael Caine movies I remember is a 1971 movie called Get Carter. In that Michael acts as Jack Carter, a petty London gangster who goes to Newcastle to attend his brother's funeral. During the funeral he realises his brother had been killed. The way he brutally traces the killers and eliminates them is completely different from Michael's usual suave play with words. He really looks brutal and dangerous in that movie.

The starting title scene is when Carter is travelling by train to Newcastle. The whole scene has a tabla playing as the credits move across the scene. Was very impressed by that.

Get Carter was made again in 2000 with Sylvestor Stallone in the same role. It was nowhere near the original Michael Caine movie.

Cheers

The Wrestler

This is a drama about an aging professional wrestler, decades past his prime, who now barely gets by working small wrestling shows in VFW halls and as a part-time grocery store employee. As he faces health problems that may end his wrestling career for good he attempts to come to terms with his life outside the ring: by working full time at the grocery store, trying to reconcile with the daughter he abandoned in childhood and forming a closer bond with a stripper he has romantic feelings for. He struggles with his new life and an offer of a high-profile rematch with his 1980s arch-nemesis, The Ayatollah, which may be his ticket back to stardom

Hi,
Its a movie about UFO mumbo jumbo. Stars the WWf superstar Rock, of whom my son is a big fan:). Rock helps two alien kids to get their space ship back and get back to their planet. The script is racy, though not very convincing.

Watchable.

UNNAI POL ORUVAN-TAMIL

Watched this Kamal movie today.First time i watched a movie on the day of the release. This is the remake of Nasirudin Sha movie 'Wednesday'.I have not seen the original. The script was done very neatly and the scenes are crisp.Unusual for a tamil movie it was over within two hours.

The stage in this film is not big enough for an actor like Kamal. He needs characters with more scope. Mohanlal impresses as usual with his effortless essay. Especially his sparring with the veteran Lakshmi is worth watching.
A thought provoking movie.

cheers,
sri

American Psycho

Patrick Bateman is handsome, well educated and intelligent. He is twenty-seven and living his own American dream. He works by day on Wall Street, earning a fortune to complement the one he was born with. At night he descends into madness, as he experiments with fear and violence.

The Informers

A multi-strand narrative set in early 1980's Los Angeles, centered on an array of characters who represent both the top of the heap (a Hollywood dream merchant, a dissolute rock star, an aging newscaster) and the bottom (a voyeuristic doorman, an amoral ex-con). Connecting the intertwining strands are a group of beautiful, blonde young men and women who sleep all day and party all night, doing drugs -- and one another --with abandon, never realizing that they are dancing on the edge of a volcano.

Very good recommendations, Sri. As a rambling old man in Donnie Brasco, Al Pacino has pulled off what could have been a very difficult job considering his screen presence.

As much as I am a fan of Al Pacino, in some ways I respect De Niro a little more as he is able to bring that extra little bit of versatility into his roles.

For example, I can never visualize Al Pacino pulling off Analyze This or Analyze That or even Meet the Fockers.:)

No slight on Pacino of course. But I just value versatility along with talent.
