Heard the Dr.Feickert as well. Good but a bit unexciting for my taste. Lacked PRAT basically.
ditto here!
though coming back to Amit's quandry....
like Dr. Bass aptly put it, 70% of the sound is determined by the motor+ Plinth+platter, hence i'd say at first one should go for the best TT + tonearm that money can buy at that particular time... forget about spending too much on the cart and phono at first....
the TT & tonearm ar the basic foundation... plus when you buy a TT and tonearm here in india, it woul be darn tough to sell it for something better later.... so make sure you buy the very best your money can buy... compromise on the cart & phono at first...
get used to working with vinyl with this...
then, in the next few months as the corpus builds up again, buy a good cart + phono...
this approach helped me tune my TT rig to its true potential without wasting money...
the cheapie cart & phono that I beagn with are still around as a backup... and thank hevens for that!
because when my ref cart went in for retipping (its been 6 motnhs since its been with sound-smiths) the cheapie one is doing its duties!
oh, by the way, I have heard the new VPI Classic 3 with a Clearaudio Stradivari Cartridge and a Accuphase AD 20 Phono board on a Accupahse E450 amp and it sounded detailed, lush and simply heavenly! I'd say this turntable is good for the money! i liked it almost as much as i like my own TT. almost.
didn't like the new Thorens as much, though. The VPI Classic 3 punches way over its price point...
just my 2 humble cents!
