Here is the complete list of R.D.Burman Asha Bhosle Bangla Puja releases LP.

These bangla puja tracks provide me newer noticeable things on every spin - be it music or the instrument or the quality. A must buy for RDB lovers as there were a lot of experimentation on these tracks in absence of demanding movie producers/ directors. Most of them have the hindi counterparts as well.

Thanks Souravin. For the casual listener would the first 2 Lps suffice? Do the first 2 Lps in your thread contain songs from the other 4 Lps in your thread

Nopes Prem. All these LPs have distinct tracks. First two compilation LPs came out in early 1980s with the songs released previously in SPs (45rpm).

Rest LPs have been released spread across 1980s

The only issue with the first two: some of the stereo tracks (released in EP earlier) are released in mono in these. For example, mohuaye jomechhe, jete jete pothe holo deri, etc, were in rich stereo in the EP releases, no? When the company reissued these LPs, we hear the songs in mono.

However, the recording was of the best quality.

Listening to Dard - not so rare but a great sounding vinyl.

20150707_194340_edited.jpg

Yes, Dard was a fantastic release. In fact, I am amazed at the sound quality of most Khaiyyaam albums. He did very few movies, but I think he insisted on a superior sound stage for his songs. Examples of great sounding vinyl - Dard, Trishul (the first audio cassette release in India?), Khandaan, Ahista Ahista, Razia Sultan (double LP), Noorie (uff!), Nakhuda, Chambal Ki Kassam (all stereo), Thodisi Bewafaii, Mehndi, Dil-e-Nadaan, Bazaar, Umrao Jaan, Baawri, Bepanaah (all mono). (An exception was the Super 7 of Shankar Hussain, which came in the mid-seventies. Great songs, but slightly weak recording.)

All of these soundtracks sound really great. I think by the late seventies and early eighties, Polydor and HMV both had better facility, better equipment. So, we get to hear better vinyl from that era. Polydor was horrible in the early to mid-seventies, with that constant hum and reeling.

Hi Sourav,
thanks for posting the complete list of RDB , AB puja albums. I have heard all of them except Bou katha Kou album. The recording is superb in all of them. Can you please post a picture if possible of the back cover of Bou Katha kou Album . I want to see the list of songs in that album. Apart from private bengali albums I have heard Troyee , Ekanta Apon and Anusandhan bengali movie Lps. Is there any other movie with decent songs composed by RDB?
Thanks.

Hi Mahiruha,

Bou Katha Kou has that gem of a song "Ki Hobe Aar Purano Diner Kotha Aaj Tule." Pancham is fantastic. The album also has another Pancham solo, plus six Asha solos, including bou katha kou. An excellent album.
Will wait to see the back cover uploaded here. Otherwise, I will share the scan.
