Vinyl I am listening to...

UmmaGumma is one of those extremely tedious self-indulgent albums that fans will hold dear because it serves to separate them from the so-called "common" Floyd-fan who prefers The Wall (or usually, portions thereof). I couldn't sit through it, and I'd be hard-pressed to believe anyone can.

Seger's kind of boring live or studio, to be honest. Rather average music.

I have a few cds with mono recordings that I really like.Arthur Rubinstein 1930's box set of Chopin's wonderful music. The gospel songs of the 'voice of the 20th century' Mahalia Jackson.
I would love to hear the original vinyl mono recordings of Mahalia on a single monitor powered by a monoblock.I will wait for a bargain on a single Sonus Faber or B&W 800 series speaker :)

Picked up Mahalia Jackson's "Sings the Best-Loved Hymns of Dr. Martin Luther King" on LP. A bit hissy and with occasional pops but all forgiven when one hears such gospel favourites like "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" rendered in her inimitable style. This particular LP was "electronically channelised for stereo" (if I remember correctly the burb on the cover).

Chopin - Preludia Op 28

Don't recall name of conductor but Chopin's name is unusually written on the LP as "Frederyk Chopin". Nice album, though.

Linda Ronstadt - Simple Dreams. This is the third time I picked up this album as the earlier two had a huge skip on the very first song on Side A. Finally got it right in third attempt.

Hi Joshua,

I too have her "Mad Love" album on Vinyl, and like it, it is a good recording and well mastered.

Cilla Black - Best of Cilla
She is a contemporary of the Fab Four. Many of her hits were penned by McCartney and Lennon. Of course she's also covered famous Bacharach numbers like Alfie.

PS: posting from my new smartphone:)

Gordon Lightfoot - Endless Wire

GL's work from this period (mid 70s-early 80s) sounds simply fabulous on vinyl. I also have Summertime Dream and Dream Street Rose, which are among my favourite LPs.

Yeah, he is awesome... I have never really gotten over his "If you could read my mind", "endless wire" and "sundown". Have almost all his stuff of vinyl!

Hmmm OMD... that must sound good on vinyl. I just have one CD - the rather cold and disturbing "Dazzle ships".

Cohen..what can I say? Great album. On vinyl though Songs of Love and Hate probably sounds best... that ominous guitar picking and orchestration on "Avalanche" nail it

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
