Vinyl I am listening to...

Hi,

Jim Croce,Gordon Lightfoot,

Have almost all albums of Lightfoot and Croce on vinyl, except Lightfoot's post 80's albums which are not as good as his early albums.

If you like Lightfoot and Croce listen to Dave Carter.

Regards
Rajiv

Thanks for the tip Rajiv.. will check out when I get home for sure

Great to see more Lightfoot fans here... I find his voice and style uniquely enchanting.

First plays on my newly acquired Ortofon OMP-10 cart:

Roger Daltrey - McVicar (Soundtrack)
Jackson Browne - For everyman
Rush - Exit Stage Left

1. Johny Mathis - Me and Mrs Jones. The title track is certainly toeing a grey ethical and social area, but whatever it is, I like Michael Buble's cover more.
2. Laura Nyro - New York Tendaberry - this one's deep:-)
3. Leon Russel - Carney (why does he keep a very unkempt facial hair?)
4. Garfunkel - Angel Clare. I didn't know he covers Van Morrison's "I Shall Sing".
5. Anne Murray - As I Am. Beautiful album.

New York Tendaberry must sound fantastic on vinyl. Still haven't managed to fully come to grips with the record...a difficult one to get used to. Eli and the thirteenth confession is somewhat more accessible.

Some stuff I've been playing over the weekend

Richard and Linda Thompson - First Light
Sufjan Stevens - Come on feel the Illinoise
The Who - Who's Next
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Ananda Shankar - A musical discovery of India
Dr. L Subramaniam - Enchanting melodies on the violin
Bruno Walter conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra - Beethoven's Symphony No. 5

Hey man! Did you import it or did you get it here?

The Sufjan Stevens was purchased from Amazon and a relative brought it down. R&L Thompson similarly off ebay. The rest are local purchases, either off collectors or the townside street vendor

1. Carol King - Rhymes and Reason - beautiful piano playing
2. The Best of Joan C Baez
3. Louis Armstrong - Hello Louis! - the gravelly sandpaper voice at his best:)
4. Roberta Flack - First Take
5. Jim Croce - Time in A Bottle - Jim Croce's Greatest Love Songs (fantastic album)

Love that Sufjan record, but I've been really digging his new one, Age of Adz.. I have the vinyl, it sounds awesome!

I just got back from a trip to the US and picked up some cool stuff! Will post some images soon.

Got Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Qurbani from a junkyard in Mumbai....And the records seems to be surprisingly good....Two pick of the songs
1. Bhor Bhaye Panghat Pey - By Lata Mangeshkar - I have heard this songs many times on CD, But on Vinyl it sounded so mucn ORIGINAL.
I believe Lata's voice is best heard on Vinyl.
2. Baat Ban Jaye - from Qurbani..one of my childhood favs....this song still sounds pretty AWESOME....

Played these over the weekend:

Fleetwood Mac - Mirage
Paul McCartney - Ram
Bread - On the waters
Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Beatles - Rubber Soul
Paul McCartney & Wings - Band on the run
Genesis - Invisible touch

Here's some of the choice selections I've been listening to recently.

George Harrison - Wonderwall Music (Recorded in Bombay!)

Neil Young - Le Noise (amazing, amazing album - one of the best sounding records I own)

Fireman (Paul McCartney & Youth) - Electric Arguments - If you haven't heard this, def check it out.. some of the best work McCartney has done in the last 20 years

Grateful Dead - Blues for Allah

The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - Clear Red Vinyl

Here's some of the choice selections I've been listening to recently.

Grateful Dead - Blues for Allah

The Dead at their most interesting and adventurous. I don't know why this one fell off the radar, I like it way more than the recognized Dead classics

My recent listening:
1. George Benson - Breezin'
2. Elton John - Ice On Fire
3. TG Sheppard - Perfect Stranger
4. Carole King - Music
5. England Dan and John Ford Coley - Dr Heckle and Mr Jive
6. Sally Oldfield - Water Bearer
7. Eagles - Hotel California
8. T.Rex - Boolan Boogie
9. Electric Light Orchestra - Secret Messages
10. John Lennon and Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy

George Benson is a recent discovery for me, although like the rest of the world I'd definitely heard his more popular numbers. Breezin' includes Benson's cover of Leon Russell's masterpiece "This Masquerade". I'd heard this by some female singer whose name I couldn't recall (probably Helen Reddy) which I liked a lot, but the jazzy version by Benson with his signature scat-cum-guitar solo, and quick-and-short arpeggios is from another dimension.

Has anyone noticed the similarity of Benson's playing style with that of Oz great Frank Gambale? Or is it my head?
Joshua

Probably not the female singer you heard, but the Carpenters also did a pretty nice version of This Masquerade on their "Now & Then" LP

1. The Alan Parsons Project: Turn of a Friendly Card - Nothing Left to Lose is my fav number on this record. Poetic lyrics and catchy tune.

2. The Alan Parsons Project: Eye in the Sky. I love Old and Wise on this record.

Playing tonight:

The Oyster Band - Step Outside

Splendid Irish folk-rock from a great band who're apparently so much under the radar that I was able to purchase two of their LPs in excellent condition from a store in Cambridge for the princely sum of 50 cents each.

Pete Townshend - Empty Glass

My first Townshend LP acquisition, even before I had any Who on vinyl, and also something of a personal favourite. The new Ortofon cart brought out the lows on this one quite nicely - I don't recall hearing a lot of the bass detail before.

Listening to these wonderful lp's received today.
