Vinyl I am listening to...

Stuff I played over the last weekend:

Paul McCartney & Wings - Back to the egg: An unusual record, with some new-wave influences, showing that McCartney was ready to take on the 80s wave without losing his trademark melodies and catchiness. Indian LP, but surprisingly with very nice artwork, and a black inner sleeve with credits. I haven't seen any other Indian LP with a custom inner sleeve, has anyone?

I picked up this album out of sheer nostalgia. When I was a small kid, my neighbour used to play this album real loud whenever he's had a drink. Very nice album.

Hi entsurgeon & Joshua,

One small request : Is the "Disco Gold" album composed by Biddu avilable on Vinyl anywhere in India, if you happen to come across it, request you to give me details as I like to pick one up, because the old cassette I had is wornout.

I will start actively looking for it and if I ever see one, will surely pick it up for you.

Hi Joshua,

Thank you very much for the assurance, I am also on the look out for the same. I have seen some offers of the same at some UK website, will try to import, let me see.

amazing music and sound quality. Its not only music a complete entertainment from a maestro.

I was listening to this album yesterday and I totally agree with you. Amazing sound quality. These LP's that I have are slightly over used but still the music is superb.

They should be included in 'LP to show off your system' !!!

I do have "Star"..don't recall if that has lyrics, but yes Nazia & Zoheb's "Young Tarang", another childhood fave I also own on vinyl, does have the lyrics on the inner sleeve.

I was referring more to Indian pressings of international albums, really. Most of the time the artwork is cut pretty drastically - lots of gatefolds removed etc. I've only ever seen Indian rock LPs with white paper or transparent polythene sleeves, hence this McCartney one was a pleasant surprise.

Some list, that. Where on earth did you get the Sun kil Moon? Must've cost a bomb.

I have a pretty great-sounding copy of Plastic Ono myself, would love to get Easter.

Had a long listening session yesterday with Lagaan and Jodha akbar vinyl and played them several times and I must admit I am totally amazed by the sound quality. The mastering is really superb. I tried them both in my all solid state vinyl set up and all tube vinyl setup and the shined in both of them. Very pleasent musical experience.
Thanks.

Hey Sughosh!

Thanks for that! I actually found the copy of Easter at Razzak in Fountain a couple of weeks ago. Was still in the shrinkwrap, but it was really dirty so I took it off! Much nicer now :)
I got the Sun Kil Moon vinyl online when it came out last year. I also have another copy of the album in a white marbled pressing and autographed... I believe there were only 50 copies of that. If you're a SKM fan I will post more pics.. I have all the albums. WIll be posting more alt/indie LP's soon.. it's fun to post these!
BTW, I have an extra copy of Sun Kil Moon's - Tiny Cities if you (or anyone else) is interested in a trade.
The Plastic Ono Band is in ok condition.. been heavily played throughout the years so a bit worn down.. good enough until I come across a better sounding one in my travels!

Easter at Razzak's? That IS a miss for me (or a betrayal from Razzak, for a 15-year customer :))

I do like SKM but probably not enough to get on vinyl and stuff. Tiny cities was a pretty good record.

Hahaha well I spent over an hour digging through all the stuff he had. I couldn't recognize the colour of my hands by the time I was done! Once in a while he'll have something decent, but you really have to dig through the rough to find a gem!

agree with Mahiruha on the quality of the new vinyl releases in India...simply outstanding....i received my copy of the Jhoota Hi Sahi LP from Saregama (purchased online) and was stunned by its quality when I played it...better than any Hindi LP I've ever heard...guess its because of hi-quality mixing and a great cut & press!!

Tried these albums. First impressions:

1. Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band - Live Bullet 2 LP --> turned out to be a live album, not my type.
2. Heart - Heart --> the vocals are not far from shrill banshee wails, couldn't take much of it!
3. Sammy Davis Jr - As Long As She Needs Me --> great album
4. ZZ Top - Afterburner (2 LP) --> another live album - I generally avoid live albums.
5. Pink Floyd - Ummagamma (2 LP) - way too psychedelic for my limited tastes.
