Haven't posted here in a long time...

Guys, try and post the exact LP version you are listening to. If there is a MUST HAVE better quality version, someone can help chime in. LP pressings differ vastly in quality and sound, so it helps to get the best quality version for your collection and knowledge. Frankly, the right pressings get you closer to THE SOUND than you can ever imagine...nothing that digital can even mildly approach in my opinion :)

Guys, if anyone is really getting into Jazz, two books that I have found indispensable in my jazz education are:
1) The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings - Ninth Edition
http://www.amazon.com/Penguin-Guide...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314839264&sr=1-1

2) Musichound Jazz - The Essential Album Guide
http://www.amazon.com/Musichound-Ja...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314839351&sr=1-1

Myriad, I am seeing that you are listening to some very nice Jazz classic albums. These books are the next thing you should order from Amazon.

Viren! How are you!? :)
Any chance you coming out here again?

Also, I saw that you removed the monoblocks from your webpage?

Hope all is well at your end. Audio has taken somewhat of a back seat for me due to other changes in life :) However the music part is alive and well.

Though, I did pick up a Shelter 90x MC Cartridge not too long ago...

Hey Shaizada

Glad you got into Sun Kil Moon! Hope I helped push you towards them :) Kozelek is my fav song writer. I have almost all his albums on vinyl, except 2!

Where did you find GOTGH? Was it sealed? How much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking.

Happy listening!

Cheers

Tek

Hi Tek,

You DEFINITELY introduced me to him. I found GOTGH sealed and payed exactly $100 for it. I also have Admiral Fell Promises and Tiny Cities. Is there any others that you strongly recommend since you have the rest?

Thanks!!

My fav SKM album is April. It is the one after Ghosts.

Where did you find it sealed?? I paid around the same for a used copy!

You should also check out his earlier band, Red House Painters. They made a big impact with their early work on the 4AD label, which is pretty tough and expensive to find. Try getting the album "Songs for a Blue Guitar" which is in print, and is really good!

He also has some live albums out, which are still available "Lost Verses" and "Live at Union Chapel". Those may be good intros to his other stuff. If you get a chance to see him live you should go!

Cheers

Tek

I found Ghosts sealed from a buddy of mine who was getting rid of most of his records (moving to a new house). He showed me that it's worth double, but that was of little value to me as I tend NOT to buy records to sell them later. I buy them because I want to listen to them. Anyhow, do you think I should have kept it sealed and listen to the digital copy? :)

I'll try and pick up April on vinyl.

Well, if you keep it sealed you can sell it for double that easily.. but it just sounds too damn good on vinyl! It really does.. MK really takes care when putting out vinyl.. it's all mastered by John Golden. And also the thick cardboard stock is good and I love the artwork. Whenever he puts something out I always buy 2 copies nowadays :P
I have two Admiral Fell Promises.. one white vinyl and one white marbled vinyl which is autographed (still sealed) which there were only like 50 signed copies or something! I have 2 Tiny Cities (one still sealed) as well. If you can, you should try to pick up his box set - White Christmas/Little Drummer Boy - it's a 4LP set. I picked it up for $40 at one of his shows in San Francisco and now it sells for over $300 on eBay! Ridiculous!!

Charlie Byrd - Blue Bird (Concord Jazz label). I got this in sealed condition and the condition is pristine.

And for me an intro to Byrd.

I was very pleasantly surprised to get this picture LP of Spinal Tap's Break Like The Wind. Comical while at the same time being serious. Nice record. From Reliance TimeOut.

All albums bought from Flipkart.com and that too cash on delivery :)
Lately i was not happy with Amazon's delivery. It was either very late, well over the estimated date or no delivery at all. Lucky, i got all the refunds against no delivery and damaged shipment.
Flipkart has now more or less same titles available with Amazon and with great option of cash on delivery.

How are the pressing? Whether the Amazon / Elusive disc available titles have better pressing?

Dear Amit,

They are all very good pressing on 180 gram vinyl on Jazz Track, Jazz Wax Records etc. Though there is not much detail on Amazon or flipkart sites, you have to search through the record label to get the additional information.

Regards

Vasu

I was FINALLY able to get my own copy of Art Pepper - Meets the Rhythm Section on 45rpm, Analogue Productions pressing. I was wanting this one for a long time!
