I have had a similar issue with Aandhi songs in two compilation albums ( Gulzar - Songs of Love & Hits of 76) in both these the songs from Aandhi are at a faster pitch, luckily all other songs sound perfect.

That's not the only difference. My Aandhi EP is recorded at a slightly faster pitch which makes the singers sound different to say the least. I think this was done to fit in all the songs. But the songs are also slightly of shorter length than the original. Again, HMV is the culprit. That's the reason I bought an LP afterwards which is worth it for the dialogues and additional music.

I share the same concern guys. I have a 3 song EP of Aandhi which plays at a faster speed and hence higher pitch. Also have the song, tere bina zindagi se koi on an LP which is a compilation of 70s songs. Will check if it plays fine.

I have a Bobby EP (bought for Rs. 7 when released) which spins at a higher tempo.
Back then it was usual, and probably acceptable, to mess with beat of a song. For us it caused much bewilderment when the song you have in EP played so much faster than say when aired in Binaca Geetmala.

Another thing, the record shops will have player where you could audition the LP/EP you wanted to buy. It was always worthwhile to closely compare a few records of the same title and pick the best sounding pressing.

Do they have such things when buying CD's ?
