I was listening to one of my favorite LP which is by Peter Green on my Garrard 301 with 9" SME arm. Peter Green is a highly talented guitarist who started Fleetwood mac. The LP itself is green in colour and pressed in Germany. the name of the album is 'In the skies'

Excellent Album.... Rare LP....

Spinning Spandau Ballet's The Singles Collection. This collection is from what I consider the golden era of Britpop (early 80s). The track Round And Round is one my favorite audition tracks. The track True which hit the no. 1 spot on the British chart in April '83 is my fav. This track introduced me to the beauty of the solo sax.

I have about 1200 lps. Anyone who wants to buy vinyl would do well to buy online from soundstagedirect (us) or jellysounds (australia). Thousands of titles esp. Jazz and many are audiophile pressings @ 45 rpm 12''. I listen mostly to jazz / classic rock.

kuravilajacob, nice to meet you. I too have a garrard 301 (schedule 1 grey grease bearing) with sme 3009 type 1 (earliest arm) with mc ortofon spu ( 75 anniv. reissue ) thru' orgofon verto trannie into carver's first preamp phase linear 4000 into 7 pre-power amps firing 7 pairs of speakers in my over damped den 26x18x12. The sound of garrard 301 can be best described as' immediate'. Would you agree? My 3 other turntables including a rega p3 aren't comparable at all.

WOW. Welcome aboard Sutlhynt. That's a very neat setup you have there. Will be lovely to see some photographs of your setup and the Sir. Garrard 301 :)

Please do post in the showcase your turntable section.

Cheers...

Sutlhint, I totally agree that the sound is 'immediate' on Garrard 301. ButI have a 301 with 3012 SMe arm which sounds even better now than sme 3009 after some fine tuning.I do have a grease bearing belt drive J.P player with NEAT arm which many forum members swear is better than my Garrards

John McLaughlin and the Players - Music Spoken Here. The music is far out and experimental even by his standards, I think. Sounds almost as spooky as Garbarek:)

Addendum : the allmusic review describes McLaughlin's playing style as helter skelter flurries. And I tend to agree:)

Late night with George Benson's In Your Eyes. For those old enough to remember, the track Inside Love (So Personal) was a chart topper and was to be found on many 'best of' compilations of the mid 80s.

Have this original Mono pressing. Listening to it right now, as I type.

Also going to listen to the following LPs tonight:

and this rare LP where Jim Reeves sings and Skeeter Davis replies:

All the above are American pressings.

Dad had told me long time ago about a Jim Reeves LP of duets one of his friends had where the lady replies to Jim. He thought it was Dottie west, but I have downloaded *every* Jim reeves album, film, radio, concert and broadcast, and Still hadnt found the duet he was talking about.

Today I was checking the Skeeter Davis song out, and dad asks me where I got it from. Turns out this is the LP. Another one to add to my Jim Reeves Stash.

PS: have you heard the newly released album with a virtual duet with barbi franklin? It's rather nicely done.

Keith Jarrett's My Song. This album has Jarrett on piano and percussions, Jan Garbarek on tenor and soprano sax, Palle Danielsson on Bass, and Jon Christensen on drums. And like any other ECM record, the sonics on this album are of a higher order. And both Jarrett and Garbarek shine.

This is a very rare LP and belonged to my father. I think be bought it from a record store during a foreign trip. It was my dad's and mom's favourite and we've grown up listening to this one. Nice to know that I was, in someway, able to help you discover this album for your dad. I am sure he'll be very happy to listen to it.

Inspired by Greenhorn's discovery of Skeeter Davis, pulled out another Skeeter Davis LP from dad's collection and listening to it right now. This was another one of his favourites:

Another Jim Reeves classic goes on next, "Missing You"

I simply can't seem to get past Skeeter Davis's song 'The end of the World' ... her voice is so soothing.
