Vinyl I am listening to...

Today's afternoon listening:

Deep Purple - Machine Head (1971, Gramophone Co Of India Pressing)

Nice to see an Indian pressing of Machine Head. I have a French press (disc made in France, gatefold sleeve printed in England). Do you have other pressings of that album? How does the Indian version sound in comparison?

Nope, I have the Indian pressings only (of Machine Head and 24 Carat Purple). Actually the quality of the pressing is pretty good.

Played few of my fav. instrumental LPs y'day.

George Barnes - Guitars Galore- man who played the first electric guitar in 1931. George Barnes made the first recording of an electric guitar in 1938 in sessions with Big Bill Broonzy.
"Guitars Galore" was released in 1961.

RAINBOW LONG LIVE ROCK'N ROLL [1978] Polydor
19q5.jpg

LP has only 8 songs. However the Deluxe set CD [2012]has around 14 songs.

On Artwork [from wikipedia]
The original vinyl release was in a gatefold-sleeve, with a lyric-sheet insert. The crowd picture is actually from a Rush concert, with the wording on the banner the fans were actually holding replaced by the Rainbow album title and the visible Rush t-shirts airbrushed to black.

BOSTON - DONT LOOK BACK- 1978 EPIC certified 7x platinum by the RIAA

Ron Goodwin's(the composer of 'Music for an Arabian Night') not so famous album...but the mood and the impact is almost same. Most of the numbers are written by Rahbany Brothers who also wrote music for the 'Arabian Nights'. Released in 1962 and is the 5th album frm Mr. Goodwin stable.

Reuben,
Nice one. Horizon LP comes in a envelope kind of cover. I have A&M US pressing.'Please Mr. Postman' is one of my favorite song from carpenters couple.
Regards,
Anil

Yes, mine has the envelope cover as well. Yes, "Please Mr. Postman" is an all time favourite hit from this LP. Coming to think of it, its sad that Karen Carpenter died so early in life. She had a distinctly unique voice.

Yesterday was Night of the Prog at my house. Came back after attending my convocation yesterday and then in the evening had a small listening party.

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King [1973 UK Reissue, Poyldor]

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick [1972 UK Press, Chrysalis]

Rainbow - Rising [1983 UK Reissue, Oyster/Polydor]

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood [1985 UK Press, EMI]

Porcupine Tree - The Incident [2009 Dutch Press, Tonefloat]

Got another PT album in my collection few weeks ago. However, this is the first time I bought an album without having listened to it earlier (not even on the internet. Somehow i always forgot about it). I'd heard mixed reviews about this but i thought : it can't be that bad; its Porcupine Tree. After listening to it, i must say that it is pretty good, however i think I'll need a few more listens. On a side note : I'd like to mention Tonefloat records. I can understand why PT albums are priced on the higher side. The packaging, the quality of packaging and presentation.they're simply jaw dropping!
