Team,
I am fortunate to be in this forum and hope to get valuable inputs to plan a good sound system. I have a 42 inch LED TV and want to add a good sound system. Searched market in Navi Mumbai and got confused.

Confusion -1 : Whether to buy Sony, LG, Samsung make home theater system or to buy a amplifier and speakers.
Confusion - 2 : While the amplifier seems to be a good option, which one to buy ? Yamaha, Pioneer or Onkyo ?
Confusion - 3 : Read some posts and found someone suggesting to by amplifier and speakers of differnt makes. Example - Yamaha amplifier is good, but spears no good. What is the right option to go for.

My living room is 16 feet length and 10 feet width. Not sure what capacity ( RMS watts) will fit in ? I have a TV, gaming cosole and USB hard disk, laptop to connect. I need to play Blu Ray discs and also need to connect microphone. Budget is around Rs.25000.

Please help me choose a good system.

onkyo 3400............@ 25k....best choice
no sony/lg product

option 3 is best that is separate...but costly...

can start with a 30k avr and 12k pair of fronts,,,,buy other speakers later

Thank you for your inputs. Somewher in a post I read that Onkyo 3400 is out of sale and 3500 is a newer one. Would that be a good choice. It seems I have to add a DVD/blue ray disk player which may be beyond my budget. Also I didn't find any showroom that sells Onkyo boxes in Navi Mumbai. Checked it Onkyo India site. I saw Vijay Sales, Reliance digital having Yamaha & Pioneer amplifiers. What is your view on those products ?

At your budget you should opt for HTIB. Buy a Sony or a Panasonic. Easy to set up and gets you going.

no sony or panasonic pleaese.....they dont even have a multiple hdmi input....
always go for onkyo/yamaha...
if budget is less go for yamaha 196 at 19k......
get a sony blu ray p[layer capable of hd auduio bit streaming like 370/380 at 9k....

little higher but you will be happy at the end...

if you buy a sony full blu ray home thetter set up....you wont be able to connect tatasky hdmi....and cannot enjoy hd channels....

When buying a home theater, always think of number of available inputs. The problem with Sony, LG, Panasonic HTs are that they have limited inputs only like one coaxial or one optical. Some even doesn't have any digital input. HDMI input is highly unlikely. They have dvd or blu-ray player built-in which may seem a good plus point. But in reality this is not the case. Once the dvd/blu-ray player fails, you are left with a brick. HTiBs from Onkyo, Pioneer, Denon, Yamaha all have atleast 4 hdmi inputs, a couple of digital audio inputs and analog inputs to connect all your devices.

As baiju and prosenjit have already suggested, the right choice will be Onkyo 3400/3500. I have seen Onkyo 3400 and 3500 in croma, ezone and reliance outlets in mumbai. I am sure it will be available in navi mumbai too. If the budget cannot be extended for BD player currently, use the laptop for few months until you save money for a dedicated BD player. If you are a good negotiator, bargain for a free bd player with Onkyo HT-3400 or Onkyo HT-3500 at an additional price of Rs.2000/- Many of our FMs has done so in the past. With Diwali approaching close, there could be some offer in the similar lines.

Yamaha and Pioneer HTiBs are also good. But for similar features in Onkyo it will cost more in Yamaha and Pioneer. Onkyo 3400/3500 is real VFM.

Avoid sony/lg/samsung/philips mainly for the reason of no multiple input. Also many of them may not support HD audio formats.

Thank you guys. I am really happy to see valuable inputs. While I am now clear that I must go for HT from either Yamaha or Onkyo, I still have few questions.

What about a player ? Do I need a blue ray player ? If yes, is there any specific one that will go with Onkyo S3500 or Yamaha 298 ?
I spoke to Shreeji Enterprises in R Mall Mulund. They offer S3500 @ Rs, 27900 and S3500 with Phillips Blue ray player @ Rs.33500.
Is it good price ? The salesman at Shreeji was asking if I need Blue Ray player with 3D or not. Not sure how that matters.

Also Is there any suggestion on the power of the ampliers ? As I mentioned I have 160 Sq feet area, is the speaker output of S3500 or Yamaha 298 suffice or I need more or less ?

Happy that you have chosen to take a proper AVR. While it means you'll have to stretch your budget, it's definitely something you'll relish in the long run.
The AVR will need an input source and hence the suggestion to buy a Blu Ray player.
If you have a 3d Panel you may want to Opt for 3D Blu Ray player, but its not a must.
Can't tell you much about the price as i haven't ever ventured in the entry level segment of AVR. Others may probably be able to guide you.

I havn't thought of used one yet due to support issues that I might face. But which ones you are referring to and at what cost ?

Team, Could you please tell me the latest HT model of Denon ? I am not finding anybody in Navi Mumbai who sells Yamaha THT 298 or Onkyo S3500. I checked with 5.1 sounds in Nerul. But they only deal with Denon now-a-days. They say there is some support issue with Yamaha systems.

Our FMs have properly guided you. I hope you have come to a final decision. Option 1
is undeserving. Option 3 you may have to go beyond your budget. As suggested by one
of our members HTIB is best for you provided you implement the installation technics in your
size of room. Yamaha 298, Onkyo 3500 and Denon HTIB1312Xp all are equally good.
My observation is that DENON=YAMAHA=ONKYO=PIONEER. Look for more HDMI options
DLNA certified and upsamplings.

I searched many stores in Navi Mumbai yesterday. But it was difficult to find Yamaha YHT 298. Only Hypercity had 298 on display. But, the USB port on the front panel didn't play music when I plugged in my pen drive. While the guys showed me a manual that says it can play USB drive and IPOD, they were of opinon that it can only play IPOD or iPhone.
Please let me know if anybody has any experience on the USB port of YHT 298.

The price quoted is Rs. 32990 . Not sure if this is a comepetitive price. Please help if anybody gets a better price in Navi Mumbai or Mumbai.

Also need inputs on the blu ray player to go with Yamaha or Onkyo HTs. Are Sony BDP S190 or Phillips BDP 2900 good fit ? Still not sure if I have go with 3D blu ray or simple blu ray. Read about a lot of features in 3D blu ray players. I don't have a 3D TV as such. But does 3D blu ray makes any difference to music?

i think its a good price..still can bargain more.
a good bdp is panaso nic bdt 220 at 12k infibeam.....there is a aseparate thread on that.
if insisting on sony..go for 380..no 190....can chaek sony 490 at 9k in ezoneonline...

is there any iss6e sony 190 blu ray. i a,m using is for 2 months the quality is very good
