What do you ride?

Nice. I test rode the KTM last week. I have to say that it is a good ride for our city roads. Though they seemed to have "detuned" the test bike. In the sense that it lacked mid-range between 4 and 6k rpm. And inside talk has it that the guys at RE are developing a twin on lines of the new Triumphs. And the are releasing the Clubman series of the cafe racers at the end of the year.

Have had 13 bikes/scooters since 1990 - currently have a kinny and patiently waiting for my 3rd Bullet since 1990. Classic 500 its a long wait which is crazy but then its worth it

theironhorse,

i agree.. but thats the charm isnt it ??

over time.. you learn to do things which you would not normally venture to do on a "well made bike ".. for example.. spark plugs, CB points, those irritating minor oil leaks, tightening breaks.. those extra couple of kicks.. while the guy with the electric start zooms away..

Funnily.. since one beings to wield the 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 spanner and the wrench & tester.. you start doing things on your owbn even at home.. this is a strange attribute which no bike in the world can claim as its USP !!

:lol::lol:

But all that fades as soon as the Bullet starts off.. i do not ride w/o helmet but sometimes just enjoy the wind on my face and the thump underneath my groin :D

will post a pic of my Bullet.

mpw

No doubt!:D

I am a Bullet enthusiast too. Though I could never own one, I have ridden quite a bit from 350 Std to contemporary UCE's. My fave is the Cast Iron 500. That gem beats cars when it comes to smooth, creamy torque!

the cafe racer should be soon available and thunderbird 500 is already doing the test runs in bangalore.
if what said to be is true soon we will get to see a 700 cc twin from RE stable..

maybe i should saving for the triumph speed triple...

ktm is a short stroke motor and high revving engine but not a relaxed ride for trips and that's where it lost my interest...

with same 25 bhp under the hood and 30kg lesser than the baby cbr it still looses out in 0-100.

finished 100 km on day one.. and yeah at one point i did whack open the throttle.. it was bliss.. :)

true... i have got spanners from 6-8 to 26-28 and what not..

and yeah its a charm of its own.. once you set the tappet and push rod rite.. take a spin of .5k and its smooth and the thump makes worth of all the sweat..

those japs are certainly fast and quick.. but who steals the show ???? neways bought a jap too.. jeopardy.. :)

I have been touring on my RE Thunderbird for close to 7 years now. The 3 longest tours of my life were all over 5000km / 21 days plus. Besides this I have done many shorter rides too. Most recent was Delhi-Kausani-Delhi in April. Pics to that ride and others are on my FB:

Over time, I have collected my riding gear and currently have two jackets (textile and leather), pants, steel toe shoes, 3 pairs of gloves and an HJC helmet which I absolutely love. The only times I have been on my bike without helmet or protective gear is in Goa. And at those times, riding even at 40kph scares me!

So my advice to everyone - Always use helmets/seat belts.

Here's me on my bike:

And here she is, all alone :

well preped up for the tour.

and hjc's are damn good.

am eyeing for the SOL SL-68 . running with a ls2 helmet and alpinestar gp-plus full length gloves.

and yes a good helmet is a must.. for every 2 wheelers. for india its more than important. without helmet i just cant ride for i am unable to take the dust and debris over the polluted road.

with the lid on its just so peaceful..

Hope this thread is not about riding any Audio Gears !!
Well....I don't possess any fancy stuff.
I used to ride an ATLAS SUPER STRONG Bicycle till my college days. (The same old bicycle...which makes us feel proud all the time while riding i.e. there is no chance of bending your waist or keeping your head down while riding.)
Along with this cycle, I own a Babaj Pulsar 150cc. Good enough to give me a feel good factor, on all those rough roads and speed breakers ;-)

irrelevant of the make.. riding and facing the wind right across your face and not seeing the world through a tinted glass of the car that more or less looks like a television screen has got a heavenly feel of its own..

you dont need fancy stuff for a ride.. just a working smooth engine with a maintained body and there you go....

and yeah those cyclle days are still fresh .. i still have my avon with those clip-on v bend bars at the sides.

I would rather go with A Triumph Bonnie any day. No R&D from RE for me.

Like I said, the KTM is great for our city roads, especially BLR.

And honestly, I'm done with pulling out spanners and pliers and opening up my own little roadside mechanics shop while out on a ride. So I don't mind going for a Jappu bike or anything that involves Kumar Bhai, Moosa Bhai, or Mario Bhai putting their grubby fingers on my bike. I'm done with "putting" constant salaams, chai and cigarettes with these guys. I would like to ride a road, not the road to their shops. I guess I now understand Zen and the art of.......

But one day when I'm mad enough, I might just ride my Jawa from BLR to HYD
