Sony launches a new Blu-ray player at Rs. 9,999/-

AFAIK Ultraviolet is region free disk. Many a times region free discs are labeled as region locked wrongly. Try some other region locked discs like Terminator 2 (if bought from US amazon) etc.

mod kit is to make it play all region BD's,people has done that with oppo and panasonic players

Yeah guys...Ultraviolet IS region free...The sony does not play other regions. Checked it out yday. Maybe a mod kit will be released soon. Sorry for the confusion. Thks @Konfused and @mgdelhi.

Please let me know whether you can play mkv and m2ts file if burned in a DVD-R/RW in place of a USB Flash or Hard Drive.

I would request 370 owners to try and post the result.

Thanks.

I burned MKV files (HD 1080p and 720p ones) on DVD (SL) and loaded on the S370.. that worked fine. the playback was smooth and got DTS sound as well.. no issues...The S370 detects the DVD as "Data DVD".

Can you please confirm if MKVs burnt on dual layer dvd also run fine?

Also, i prefer to write mkv on my 8gb USB drive & then play it on the sony ( me thinks that it will protect the lens from going weak..!)

I have burnt two less than 4 gb file in a dvd rw dual layer and it played well.
check whether the original aspect ratio is maintained in mkv files because some movie files will become 16:9 and distort the video to fill the screen with the 370.......

Sony has released a new firmware for the S-360. I got a message a little earlier when I turned it on to play some music - mine's connected to the router via cable.

Can somebody talk about this player's 2 channel audio capabilities ?

@ sachin_k5 and others: Did anyone comment on the player's audio capabilities? (not the HD bluray audio but stereo playback from redbook CD, please)

will do an a/b with a philips CDP 931 and revert over the next few days..

i guess that'll have to do till someone with a better source can do a review

@ kapvin: Did you perform the test?

Hi everyone,

I will bevery interested in this BDP if it has good stereo audio playback. I am considering other options like marantz(4001,6001)/CA(89,99) dvd players which can give better CD playback. If this S370 matches or supercedes some good dvd players or equates to some entry level CDP (teac?), I would be pleasantly surprised!

S370 owners, PLEASE do some audio quality tests with your bdp, avr and speaker setup by playing CDs and listening to stereo mode. An a/b test will be much much appreciated. I am counting on all the owners to spend some time researching this aspect and confirm the findings! Thanks.

Question: I have heard (from dealers and elsewhere) that a BDP can never give good stereo playback from a CD since it is created to play BD or DVD primarily. I am using a 5 years old philips dvd player and I must say the CDs play good enough on that. I am wondering what S370 bdp will sound like!

PS: I completed this godzilla of a thread today - start to end. Took me entire day (alongwith my office work, ofcourse!).

My friend is using this player with a two channel Yamaha receiver for music only purposes. It's at least as good as the playback of a 5 year old Rs. 5000/- Sony DVD player, if not better.

Thanks KDM. I should now try and find out where I can demo this bdp back to back with my old dvdp (I can carry it along), with other factors kept constant

Anyone in Delhi who can offer a demo, please?

One more thing, if you have/can can find, beg or borrow an SACD, take it along with you for the demo. This player is pretty, pretty decent sounding on them as well. :)

I understand that the SACD performance will be superior. However, I do not own any SACD and do not think I will be buying any of those even if I have a player. I am still focussed on CD playback as far as music is concerned.

Any kind Delhiite who can offer a demo of the bdp or can refer a place/showroom where I can demo this (the dealer should be patient enough to allow various connections and number of CDs for demonstrations).

PS: I think out of the battle between DVD-Audio and SACD, both formats suffered eventually. I do have a DVD-Audio (of Dhoom 2) which I purchased in anticipation of the DVD-Audio formats long life - alas, its dead! Blu ray is here to say since HD-DVD is officially beaten. But do you in any way suggest that SACD is an ongoing format and mainstream too? Or are you referring to the fact that I can listen to many of the SACDs which were released thus far and is good enough reason to have an SACD player? (sorry, was OT!)

Sony 370's video playback via usb distorts the video and plays it back only in 16:9 format hence most movies looks distorted if the black bars are not already encoded in the file........

I don't have any HD rips, but I do have plenty of SD rips and can safely say that it doesn't do this with any of the SD files I have.
