Sony launches a new Blu-ray player at Rs. 9,999/-

Finally bought the SONY BDP s370 and can confirm that it plays DVDs from all regions but Blu-rays only Zone C. It's great value for money. Wish the it could connect to the internet via wi-fi. Any idea where I can get a compatible wi-fi dongle for this?

I tried connecting a western digital external harddrive to this player via USB cable and it says "UNIDENTIFIED DEVICE" !

If I use a large 500 GB hard drive which has lots of mkv HD movie files. How will it play.Is there any interface which will list all the files present in the hard drive from which I can select ?

Kindly let me know as I am planning to buy the player to play mkv and m2ts files.

It will just list them in the video portion of the XMB menu - all you have to do is scroll to the appropriate file and select it for playback. The process is the same for Audio files and Images - simply go to the relevant portion of the XMB and you'll find them all listed there.

Anybody has trouble with dts-hd ma in bdp-s370, my onkyo avr(htib 3300) doesnot show it while playing bd's with hd ma, only shows pcm.
i had this issue when i connected the bdp-373 via hdmi cable to denon 1910 for audio and video to a CRT tv via component out. The Blue light would not glow and the input signal was PCM.

But when i switched the video to HDMI (Panny V20) - The blue light came on.

Surprise!

i am not sure what you meant by blue light, if you play a bd with hd master audio, does your avr display the format as such?

When Denon receiver recognize the incoming audio is HD audio (Dolby Tru HD/DTS HD), Blue LED light "HD audio" on receiver lights up.. along with the format text.

Hi
one of the free blue ray disc given with S370 Legion has DTS Master Audio. When I play that on the BDP S370 my Onkyo 3300 displays input audio (thru HDMI) as "MCH PCM 5.1".
For compressed 5.1 formats like DTS or DD it displays "DTS 5.1" or "Dolby Digital".
For normal audio it displays just "PCM f 44KHz" of something like that.
So in csae of DTS MA the Onkyo is detecting something different. Its just that its not displaying "DTA Master Audio" which one would expect it to...
If you are not getting MCH PCM then do check your S370 settings...or the BD disc for DTS MA sound track.

Hi folks,
Its been 3 weeks since i bought this black beauty (and blue ray)!. The complementary BD copies of "This is It" and "Legion" played out magnificent on my 32 inch LG Jazz Theatre.
There are some interesting things i noticed. Let me know if you guys felt the same.

1. It supports Up-scaling. If you put an original dvd the quality is up-scaled to 1080p (am not sure how much it up-scales tho'). On my normal philips dvd player, the same dvd was played little dull in pic quality and also the audio.

2. On my FAT32 formatted transcend usb hdd, i had stored my movies not in the root folder but under some more folders.. like f:\movies\divx\english\thriller\*.avi. It didnt recognize any of my movies in this folder. But if i put the same movies in root, it recognized the same.

3. on mp4 video files (with .srt files included), it doesnt show up subtitles. On divx avi files, it was fine.

This Sony BDP-S370 is an amazing buy for Rs 9700/- + 2 bd discs + hdmi cable free (I bought in Giria's Hosur Road, Bangalore).
I would now look up to a good BD rental store somewhere in HSR Layour/ Koramangala.. :-)...

In case any folks are having issues with MKV files with h.264 profile 5.1, which the S370 does not play, you can use the tool txmuxer. It can convert profile5.1 MKVs to profile4.1 which the S370 will play. Ofcourse it saves the file as m2ts instead of MKV.. but the s370 plays m2ts w/o any problems...
incidentaly this tool can also split the files into smaller playable files.. so for files larger than 4Gb which FAT32 does not support you can save as smaller size files which the S370 will support..
pretty useful tool this txmuxer
thought I'll mention...

if you turn off downmix setting under audio settings, 3300 will display hd master audio

Please let me know whether you can play mkv and m2ts file if burned in a DVD-R/RW in place of a USB Flash or Hard Drive.

I would request 370 owners to try and post the result.

Thanks.

I just updated to latest firmware 623 via LAN. It was smooth. Also watched some YouTube videos. Looks decent. HD movie trailers look good too. Yes, I will not use these features regularly.

Yes, you can, in theory. Although I've not tried HD files, I expect them to work just the same - just be careful of the bit rates for MT2S files. TS files should play without too many problems.

I tried a number of SD DIVX and other files burned on DVD - and yes, it played. Just make sure you burn the disc in one session and finalise it. :)
