Sony launches a new Blu-ray player at Rs. 9,999/-

Sorry, Boss, but you are dead wrong. this is not a piracy control technique. AACS and BD+ are the piracy control techniques. (and even they are not adequate since most piracy happens from studio masters or original prints.. they only prevent individauls from copying discs and sharing with friends.. and now thanks to makemkv and anydvd hd, not even that)

region coding is simply a way to feed studio greed -- i.e

1. have differential pricing in various regions - without "flow of stocks"
2. have staggered releases in various regions - so that they can squeeze the max out of the theatrical release in each region before releasing home media
3. "theoretically" - have different edits of the movie for different regions.

as a matter of fact HD-DVD did not have region coding and that's one of the key reasons for less studio support for the format and it's ultimate demise.

cheers

+100 to that and may i add....with my little experience of BD's the PQ too differs from region to region......not very much but still there.....
its more pronounced when comparing a region A disc with the region C one...

why such difference in treatment...are we that bygone as to ADJUST with lower PQ than those from the westerners:mad:....

is this same thing apply to ripped files downloaded from internet mean can i ll be able o those files on it.

Hi,

No, it does not apply for ripped files downloaded from internet.

I was wrong in my saying that region coding usage for piracy, Kapvin has clarified it!:clapping:

By ripping contents from a DVD or Blu-ray, you will be decrypting region coding, copyright protection, etc.

If your main motive to get a player to play ripped files, why not try media players like WDTV live, Xtreamer, ACRyan, Popcorn hour, etc. They have their own advantages and disadvantages against stand-alone BD players. Buying a playing that too from Sony is, in my view, not at all advisable, as most of the BDs are Region A and there is a whole bunch of popular which are region free as well.

i am not sure whether there is this PAL/NTSC issue with this BD player, Panasonic BD-60 surely does. I would anytime recommend one to get a player like Oppo BD-80, which is universal and can be made region free and support NTSC/PAL and there are few members who are utilizing it really well.

Cheers![/QUOTE]

Hi,

does media players have a 5.1 channel output, i dont have AVR and my HT only have audio in by component cables

Hi,

Can you share some technical details of your HT, model, brand name, etc. I would like to know how you have connected your moserbaer to it. If you have done it through optical or coaxial, the same can be found in a media player.

At any cost, you will need a decent AVR for you to enjoy the real 5.1.

Cheers!

I have very strange problem with this player ,my panasonic lx80 32 keys hang (also remote not working) after connecting this BD player.

Hi,

I think you are referring to RCA stereo (composite Red, white, yellow), the same option is also available in Xtreamer and other media players, but with that I dont think you will receive the actual surround but a simulated surround by your HT.

Cheers!

Sony BD-S370

Hello.. Iam planning to Buy Sony BD-S370 :licklips: to connect to my Onkyo HTS 3200 :)
In the specifications it says this player supports .mkv files.
Does this actually plays my .mkv files which are all around 8gb-10gb files.

Also i wanted to know which is the best way to connect this player to my Onkyo AVR.Should i connect it using Optical or Co-axial to get 5.1 sound to its best.

Re: Sony BD-S370

Thnku.
That answers my first doubt.
What about the connection. Is Optical the best or Co-axial or HDMI, for the best of best sound

He has tried that and it shows the mute logo on the screen which he doesn't want. That's why he is asking for suggestions.

making volume zero does not mean pressing MUTE button.. :)
keep volume level at 0 using the volume buttons (+ and -)..
keep pressing minus (-) button till it becomes 0 and no sound coming from tv..

this is back side of my HT

Anil,

By looking at the picture I can see your HT only takes 5.1 analog inputs..

Only hi-end BD players (oppo etc) give 5.1 analog out from the player..

You will have to look for an AVR/HT which can decode 5.1 sound (DTS, Dolby) via digital input (optical or coaxial)

Or If you want to really enjoy HD sound in blue-ray disk (DTS-HD, Dolby-TrueHD) then an AVR/HT which can decode 5.1 HD sound via HDMI input (HDMI can carry both video and audio)

optical and coaxial are similar..
you can use this for DTS/Dolby 5.1 surround sound..

HDMI can decode HD surround sound.. DTS-HD/Dolby-TrueHD
If your Onkyo supports HDMI HD audio decoding then this is the BEST..
you can enjoy HD surround sound and you don't need separate cables for audio/video..
HDMI can carry both audio and video in a single cable..

No to the large files as there is only FAT32 support so nothing larger than 4GB.

If you have cables for both Optical/Co-ax then try them both out. I know, I know, they are both digital signals but I've found that each connection sounds different from the other with many receivers+dvd player combos.

Cheers! :)
