Hello Music Lovers,

I just wanted to share the power of "Husband & Wife"
in audio system also. In my limited 30 years experience of switching between at least 50 amplifiers and speakers, I want to advise the novice generation that it is careful paring that is most important while selecting your music system. I know that I will get lot of criticism for this statement as most of what is written on HFV is only forwarded mails and not actual experience/ realization. Anyways my only objective is to guide music lovers in the right direction. They need to listen to or they can also get a sense / direction if they want to listen to my humble setup.

Heliumflight,

Can you tell us more about your good and bad experiences in matching and pairing of audio system components together to get expected result.

It takes very long time to match AMP and Speakers perfectly. Not to forget that rest in the chain say speaker wire ,source player equally important.

and as you go higher in the Curve -pairing synergy becomes more and more important and specs , as published, get more and more meaningless and so does actual audition unless in ones own room. all you can accomplish is to understand the "Potential"

the two major synergies - Speaker- Room and Speaker- amp.
Room -Speaker synergy : the right speaker positioned in the room so it "locks in : to the room
Amp-Speaker synergy : the amp and speaker work as one so the speaker draw is as per the ability of the amp and the amp can provide constant power/current as needed by the speaker
(and of course the subjective/qualitative aspects of the tonality and presentation in either of the two)

At an entry level ist is relatively easier to get a pairing

Talking about synergies, IMHO this is the most important and quite possibly the most ignored
Cheers,
Sid

Sorry for the late response. Busy in Diwali festivities.

I have to admit that I got caught up in the brand name and assumed that if I purchased an exotic name or an expensive brand, then I may not have to put efforts or use my intelligence in matching as the designer of that equipment may have already taken the pains to do that. I was wrong.

ex: Luxman M-06a doesn't sound good with Vintage B&W but Sansui AU-317 sounds divine with B&W and blows the socks of 5K Luxman. So careful pairing is essential and not expensive brand of speaker/ amp/ cdp

Yes, I agree it takes a long time for proper matching to get that WOW feeling. We are all looking for a neutral sounding system but if it does not entice us enough, then we mate the strengths of one equipment with the deficiencies of the other.

Every one starts from HT. I'll convert you to a 2 channel HiFi man :)

Yes, all these comprise of the extended family and each has its own part to play. ;)

careful pairing is important in audio and outside audio too else .. everything sounds bad ..

The ironhorse speaks from wisdom/ realization:rolleyes:

Hmm.. ~2 amps per year for 30 years..
I thought 'I' was crazy!! :D

BTW, If you found synergy, what is the need to swap all these amps??

I didn't, because whenever you change a component of the chain then it is a complete circle.

Not everyone looks for neutral sound. Some love warm sound while some revel bright sounding system. Some want the tadka of extra bass while some just can't stand it. To each his own.

Not all of them were amps. It is speakers and amps put together. Of course still it is a big number.

Happy & Prosperous Diwali to you also.....:)

Well said about the matching of the audio gear.

You picked the right thing, people think=> expensive brand name = good sound quality guaranteed , which is not the case always.

Only experience [from harsh lessons+learning] can make you immune to such pitfalls and i am glad in your case its mission accomplished, you know your stuff.

That is where Bass & Treble controls comes in handy, but then the 'direct path' bug make the folks to hate them quite alot.......:D

OK heliumflight, you said that you wanted to guide true young seekers.
Im a toddler as far as hifi audio goes, honestly speaking.
So will you guide me?
Budget is my first concern.
Current max experience level - Xonar D2X soundcard, Edifier C3 speakers.
I also 'currently' think 2.1 gives a good balance of mid & bass. But I havent really heard good 2.0 bookshelves.
So given a budget of 25k what should I invest in? (Amp and speakers)
I am thinking active 2.1 from some value-for-money brand like Sonodyne.
What do you think?

Regards

You call the relation "Hasbund and Wife" and in the same statement says 50 changes , also lokking at your changes over years ( on HFV) you are contradicting youurself - don't you think so?

I mean by your example only it appears more like "one night stands " or orgy going on right?

We are all looking for a neutral sounding system

What is neutral sounding system??? why people like it???
