Right now I am listening to ...

Darjeeling er Gaan by Anjan Dutta, a nostalgic favourite from my school days.

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about Anjan Dutta's Darjeeling'er Gaan as I was not aware of its release. Can you give us some details like whether it is a cassette or CD, the year of release and the tracklist? Thanks.

LOGGINS & MESSINA - LOGGINS & MESSINA

Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina (Ex-Buffalo Springfield and Poco) paired up to form the American Rock/Pop duo of Loggins & Messina in 1970. The self-named album Loggins & Messina, released in 1972, was their second endeavour, reaching No.16 in US Billboard 200, with at least three chart-busting singles. It can be said this was the duos most successful release. As in all their releases, this album also contains some crisp vocals and music with the country-western-jazz-soft rock influence being quite evident.

NOTEWORTHY TRACKS: Your Mama Dont Dance, Thinking of you and that catchy number Angry Eyes. My personal favourite is Golden Ribbons a sentimental, haunting piece which was perhaps composed as a tribute of the soldiers killed in the battlefields of Vietnam, Korea and Cambodia.

FOOTNOTE OF INTEREST: Wikipedia had mentioned Stephen Stills of CSNY as one of the vocalists although his name is missing in the albums credits. Rusty Young of Poco also made a guest appearance in this album.

ROCK OF AGES - THE BAND IN CONCERT

This 2-CD album which was released in 2001, is a re-mastered release of the original Double LP album released in 1972 by the same name. It is a compilation of some of the recordings of The Band when they made live appearances at the Academy of Music in New York City, from December 28 through 31, 1971. The album achieved No.6 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The first CD contains all the numbers from the original double album. The second CD which was added as a bonus was performed by Stevie Wonder and Ivy Joe Hunter in the first track Loving You is Sweeter Than Ever and Tracks 7 to 10 has Bob Dylan in a guest appearance.

I ALSO HAVE THE ORIGINAL DOUBLE LP ALBUM AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT THE RE-MASTERED CD DOES NOT HOLD A CANDLE TO THE ORIGINAL LP SET SO FAR AS THE AUDIO QUALITY IS CONCERNED. A LOT OF THE HIGHS HAVE BEEN LOST IN THE CDS DURING THE RE-MASTERING PROCESS RESULTING IN THE SONGS SOUNDING QUITE INSIPID.

LISTEN TO THE MUSIC - THE VERY BEST OF THE DOOBIE BROTHERS

This album is a compilation of the hits of the Doobie Brothers and was released in 1993.

The album "No Reservation" by Apache Indian. Listening after a very long time. Bring back memories of school days.:yahoo:

I only 'had' cassettes of his. Been searching for a long time for his CDs but to no luck so far. Yes, school days memories

Arranged Marriage and Chok There were huge... was in school myself.

Even I don't have the CD, but definitely looking for it without any luck so far. I too 'had' the cassette.

During the school days, few were in trouble for following Apache Indian's hairstyle. :clapping::ohyeah:

Sarith's post on the Youssou N'Dour/Neneh Cherry number "7 Seconds" evoked a lot of old memories. So I dug out the CD and gave it a good listen for old times' sake......

NENEH CHERRY - MAN

The third release from this unconventional singer Neneh Cherry, the album Man (1996) also had the duet with Youssou N'Dour, the iconic song 7 Seconds. This song was originally released as a single in 1994 and won Neneh Cherry a Grammy nomination that year. The other hits were Feel It, Kootchie and Woman. The album reached No.16 in the U.K. Charts.
Ever the feminist, Neneh Cherry, through her song Woman, conveyed a powerful message in support of womankind - something that holds great relevance even 18 years after its release, especially for a country like India. Here are the lyrics:

WOMAN

You gotta be fortunate
You gotta be lucky now
I was just sitting here
Thinking good and bad
But I'm the kinda woman
That was built to last
They tried erasing me
But they couldn't wipe out my past
To save my child
I'd rather go hungry
I got all of Ethiopia
Inside of me
And my blood flows
Through every man
In this godless land
That delivered me
I've cried so many tears even the blind can see

Chorus:

This is a woman's world.
This is my world.
This is a woman's world
For this man's girl.
There ain't a woman in this world,
Not a woman or a little girl,
That can't deliver love
In a man's world.

I've born and I've bred.
I've cleaned and I've fed.
And for my healing wits
I've been called a witch.
I've crackled in the fire
And been called a liar.
I've died so many times
I'm only just coming to life.

Chorus

My blood flows
Through every man and every child
In this godless land
That delivered me
I cried so many tears even the blind can see

Chorus

1. "Woman" 4:30
2. "Feel It" 5:41
3. "Hornbeam" 5:02
4. "Trouble Man" 3:57
5. "Golden Ring" 3:40
6. "7 Seconds" ft. Youssou N'Dour 4:59
7. "Kootchi" 5:06
8. "Beastiality" 2:49
9. "Carry Me" 4:22
10. "Together Now" 3:11
11. "Everything" 4:58

NOTEWORTHY TRACKS: 7 Seconds, Woman, Feel It, Kootchie and Everything.

FOOTNOTE OF INTEREST: The track "Woman" was used in the soundtrack of the 1996 released Geena Davis/ Samuel L.Jackson thriller "The Long Kiss Goodnight". The album hardly received any publicity in the U.S. as the record label Virgin was undergoing a merger at that time. So the album never reached American shores officially and was sold as an imported one, resulting in higher retail prices.

I never heard this artiste before so I heard a few of his numbers on Youtube today. His voice has an old-world charm which carries quite nicely.

I recall that this song became quite popular a few years back because of its underlying political message. Besides, being sung in three languages also made it unique!

I have a collection of Josh Groban (Best of) and he has a cool voice. I believe I first heard him sing on The Ellen Show (IIRC).

I used to hear Youssou long time back until recently I went through my CD-R collection and came across his CD. A collection of his songs from a Dutch CD and an Austrian EP rip.

I would highly recommend checking out Joe Cocker too... one of the best voices. Stands out because its unique and raspy.

Also, Freddie Mercury (Queen) and Annie Lennox for their amazing vocals.

Problem is that even though you appreciate the music, it's irritating when you can't understand the lyrics in a foreign language!!

Ah, Joe Cocker!! Who can forget him. During my school days, I used to visit a friend's home regularly just to listen to his Joe Cocker LP collection!

Queen was a regular in my must-listen list at one time but all my collection is in LPs and ever since my TT broke down, I haven't listened to them:sad::sad:. I haven't given Annie Lennox a good hearing, though.

I would suggest giving a listen to Dar Williams, especially her Honesty Room and Mortal City albums.

Here's another familiar voice! That is, if you're into his kind of music - Steve Winwood.

BLIND FAITH - BLIND FAITH

UNLISTED/HIDDEN TRACKS IN THE 1986 POLYDOR CD RELEASE:

1. Exchange and Mart
2. Spending All My Days

What happens when ex-members of Traffic and Cream get together? They Tr-eam, sorry team up to form one of western music worlds first super-groups called Blind Faith!! :ohyeah:

Steve Winwood of Traffic joined hands with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker of Cream and Ric Grech of Family. The group released a one-off self-named studio album in 1969 before going their separate ways due to ego hassles.

FOOTNOTE OF INTEREST: I bought my CD on one of my tours in 1990. When I returned home and listened to the CD for the first time, I thought I had been fobbed off with a counterfeit copy because of the two extra tracks!! The extra songs were not listed in the Tracklist. After comparing the first 6 tracks with the LP and finding them "true", I continued listening to this album after intervals. In any case I had no choice because returning the CD was out of question. It was much later that I discovered the truth about the "hidden tracks". It wasnt as simple a task to Google for info in the early 90s!

I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST FMs TO POST SIMILAR EXPERIENCES OF HIDDEN TRACKS THEY MAY HAVE FOUND IN THEIR CD PURCHASES.
