Guys, thanks for Aramex tip. Amazon->Aramex->Bangalore has become my favorite purchase method.
I am trying to buy from ebay US for the first time. Would it be possible for someone to answer a few questions:
1. When using Aramex/Borderlinx address, do you restrict yourself to items which ship worldwide or do you also bid on items which are listed as 'shipping to US' only.
2. Do you inform the seller before bidding that the items are meant for export?
3. When do you click the 'received item' button? When Aramex receives it or when you get it in India. I believe eBay pays the seller only after you have confirmed the receipt.
4. Has anyone bought anything expensive (I am looking for a $400 DSLR body) using Aramex? Any stories of experiences with customs?
Hi,
I have so far received / Purchased 4 items thru borderlinx all are being high value and heavy items. So I can give you clear picture of typical purchase and import thru borderlinx.
1. You can bid on all the items that is listed on E bay, not necessary only for worldwide. As the seller is not going to be aware that the consignment is in-turn being shipped to India.
2. It is better not to inform the buyer that you are going to get it in India as sometimes the seller may disqualify your quote / bid, fearing transit damage or rejection complaints. However please also be aware that when ever we are importing thru borderlinx are Aramex we are doing so on our own accord and there is equal amount of risk involved with regard to transit damage.
Also be aware that neither Aramex or Borderlinx offer any repacking services for you to ensure safe reaching of the item. So the item should reach you only with the packing done by the seller which he may consider for local shipment only.
3. As far as I know all the sellers prefer only payment thru PayPal. That way neither E bay nor PayPal assumes any responsibility with regard to well receipt of the items by you. Any how you can take it up with PayPal or E bay at a latter stage with regard to any miss appropriation by the seller but I personally did not have any experience on this.
4. As I have told you at the beginning I did import 4 times high value and heavy items. With regard to the customs formalities I have written elaborately in this same thread in the initial pages. You may please go thru the same if you desire so.
Apart from the above I would like to tell all the purchasers that you have to give your
US address to the seller very very clearly that too along with the Suite No alloted to you. In case if the seller is not mentioning the suite no in the address label then the consignment will not be received by either Borderlinx or Aramex and the same will be sent back to the seller.
I once again reiterate that whenever we import we are doing it on our own accord only and there is an equal amount of risk is involved in this. Hence I would prefer Borderlinx over Aramex. Cause Borderlinx has got tie up with DHL who are lot more professional than Aramex. The set back is Borderlinx is only for CITI card holders.
Hope this clarifies some of your doubts. Thanks to all for reading this.
