Aramex Shop & Ship - Get anything from US/UK Toooooo much cheaper than Borderlinx

Received my LOTR extended edition and Sucker Punch BD today, the shipment reached ARAMEX New York last Saturday and I got it in Chennai yesterday

The shipment weighed 1300gms and I was charged Rs.1300 for shipping, no custom duty was charged :yahoo:

At $89.99 for the LOTR-EE boxed set (Rs. 4050 approx) + Rs. 1300 for shipping, this makes it Rs. 5350 (or take off Rs. 200 towards shipping of the other BD). The Indian edition is available for Rs. 5099/-. So why buy from Amazon? Just for a digital copy? Does not make sense to me. But that is an individual decision, of course.

I ordered a small can of wood polish from Amazon to ship to my Aramex mailbox. The total price was $11.20. This was my first order with Aramex. So, I thought every thing was automatically taken care of. Since Amazon does not stick the invoice on the box, Aramex put a random value of 2000 Rs for the package. The category of the package was classified as Tools.
So, the customs charges was Rs. 537. In addition the freight was around Rs 510.
On following up with Aramex, they claimed that if I had sent a copy of Amazon invoice before they received it in the US, they could have declared the correct value. I thought I would post this here so that in future anyone ordering can send a copy of the invoice to Aramex for accurate customs calculation.

Came back to this thread after a few months..... Now I am interested in buying a (used) iPhone 3gs 32 GB from eBay... Payment will be done thru US Paypal, so that's sorted. Seller has no qualms in shipping to a PO Box type address in NYC.

Question is, shall I be wary of getting a used phone? I don't think he will agree to change the description of the Phone, on the invoice, from Used to "NEW".

Are the chances there I might be slapped FULL DUTY by the customs guys on charges of dumping used goods.. what I read few pages back?

Please advice...

I believe "USED" products are banned in customs and you will be slapped with anti dumping duty(min. Rs.5K) if caught by an law abiding customs officer.

You can ask you seller to put less invoice value like $101, 120 and declare as "NEW".. and further leave to Shop and ship and fate.

@ Imgene - The cost that I will end up paying incl shipping (if there) should be in the range of 250-300$. At least, this is what I am ready to pay for a used iPhone. I personally do NOT want to buy 400-450$ for a new phone, which would start looking like a used one in 2-3 months.

In the past I have bought used iPhones but got them through friends....

This is the first time I was thinking of trying Aramex.
I checked with Anuradha and she suggested, ask the seller to
1.) Write "NEW" in the invoice, if not possible, at least don't write "USED" in the invoice.
2.) try and buy a phone with box and in a fairly decent condition, which doesnt show too much wear and tear...
3.) Thirdly, if the seller can put a cost of 200$ on the phone then it could be marked as a GIFT and our fate could be tried.... Like Srini suggested.

Just wondering if someone has already got something like this...

Did you get a mail with your shipping addresses? They send you one address each in the US, UK and China. You can see it on their website too. If yes, then you have indeed registered. Otherwise, it might not be complete. You can log in to sns with your Aramex login as well, but to use it you still need to pay and create an account. So, that could've happened too. That, you've got a regular aramex account, but not an sns account.

I had to login to SNS and then make payment by CC in order for this to work. The default create account process at Aramex did not have these steps.

Whenever I ship via Borderlinx, my goods are not tampered with or opened and it arrives within 5 days. Does Aramex provide similar efficiency or is there a long waiting period at Customs?

As of now prompt in getting cleared in customs in mumbai. Only the pertaining city office is delaying in delivering it... I have twice got hold typically got status like "out of delivery: in the morning and in the evening status "door locked" or "customer not ready with payment"(shipping &duty).. Funny both are wrong.

While shop and ship in the respective countries(Uk & USA- not tried china) the dispatch is taking place to India same day or in 1 day notice to India on receipt of consignment from vendor,, No delay..

I got shipment in flat 3 days notice from UK.

Cost calculator is already available in the Aramex site. It is standard, but the rate does not include Duty( in borderlinx & SYW it will be shown as all inclusive)
