Thanks for the reply,

I am actually planning it around Diwali time. Will surely PM you during that time.
By the way does D550 have any reflection issues.

Depends on what you compare it with. Panasonic ST, GT, and VT has lesser reflection than D550 for sure.

If the 74K price (Tata Sky+ etc.) is anything to go by, Factor in the 3 year warrranty and the 50VT20 is a good deal.

Even otherwise it is a good buy. You have no idea of the PQ difference the AR filter alone brings in. I am owning both samsung and panasonic currently.

Thank you very much Prankey, Blasto and everybody else. All the info are really helpful. I do get the point that both Pan and Sam have the reflection issues, but looking at the features and looks I guess I betting big on Samsung D550.

Ok now sticking on to the price I got 1 offer of 67000(with 2 3D glasses) from one of the show rooms here in bangalore and then checked the other place got a much better deal of 63500 (with 2 3D glasses). Now I am not sure how good is this but sticking on to the 2nd deal till Prankey gives me the contacts. Planning to buy it in this week.

Thanks a lot Pankey, Blasto and everybody else. All the details given were very helpful and I have decided to go for Samsung D550 itself, understanding that plasma tv's are prone to reflection.

Now sticking to the thread, I have inquired with 1 of the Samsung showroom itself, he quotes 69000/- with 2 3D glasses free, later when I checked with 2nd showroom(not a Samsung showroom) he offered me 67000/- and finally when I inquired with 3rd showroom(again not a Samsung showroom) he offered me 63500/- with 2 3D glasses. I guess the last offer is the best so far I have got.

Prankey request you to send me the details of your contact if you think your contact would give a better offer than the above one. Please PM.
(I would have PMed you but I am new to forums so don't know how to do it, sorry).

Yes this offer is in bangalore
PM @Prankey
for less than 70k with 2 3d glasses free (Price may have + or - )

That actually is quite a poor offer. I jsut bought 'two' 50VT20s for Rs. 74,200/ each, just yesterday.

PS: The price also includes 'one extra 3D glasses', 'One TataSky HD+ set-top box' & 'one logitech wireless keyboard'.

WOW that's great deal.

Please let me from where you got that.
I am also in NCR (Noida)

Thanks Much
Pawandeep

Can you check deinterlacing performance from Tatasky's 1080i signals as compared with your 50C6500? I would really appreciate your inputs as that would significantly determine the PQ despite VT20 having much better panel and features. Once we confirm that VT20 is a good contender, I could arrange a group buy or best price thread specific to Bangalore members.

Yes, trying my best to get the best price. Will try to update today. But before that, I need to understand scaling performance of this TV as compared to D550 and of course 3D. I strongly believe Samsung is much superior in terms of 3D and scaling performance as it matters even for a 1080i signals.

I am sorry but the TV I purchased was a gift and therefore I don't have it in my house to do a direct, side-by-side comparison. The 2nd TV too, was for a friend.

I personally am very tempted to buy one for myself too, but I would rather get a larger TV and therefore I am exploring the possibilities of getting a good deal on a 65" VT20. As an alternate I am looking for a good deal on the Samsung 64" D8000. It's hard to commit to buying an expensive TV, such as the 64" Samsung, without even a demo. The Panasonic VT20 series on the other hand is known entity and rather well renowned for pretty much being the best TV there is.

I think you might have it wrong about the 3D part. Panasonic is pretty much, universally accepted as the best for 3D. Scaling I am not too sure of. Personally, I really don't care too much for SD and therefore not too concerned about scaling. 1080i signals would require de-interlacing and not scaling. I am not sure, but I don't think, scaling and de-interlacing are the same thing.

SD - poor
720p/1080i/1080p - Stunning
3D - Jaw dropping.

Pop into some member close by your house to get an idea.

I have auditioned 64D8000 and can say its a good TV, however VT20 might be even better. Having said that, for 3D, as I had auditioned 65VT20 last year when it was launched and now see 51D550 and 64D8000, 3D is actually MUCH better with more realistic colors and least cross talks as compared to Panasonic.

1080i essentially need scaling during deinterlacing fast moving object to avoid comb effect and loss of horizontal resolution (motion resolution). Frame Interpolation can also help to address interlacing issues on fast motion scene to maintain motion resolution. So essentially we are talking about deinterlacing Full HD 1080i content atleast as effectively as Samsung.

2 of my friends purchased Samsung Plasma 3D PS51D550 for Rs 62K with 2 3D Glasses free and some diwali scratch card gifts from Giria's Bangalore (jayanagar)

They wont give for 62K at first, but do hard negotiation.
