Confused between LG 42LA 6910 & Sony 42W 800

@sri134
You might have already watched the mkvs earlier on a laptop or a tv.
How are the details in the picture when you watched on w800?

i have read some reviews of w800a. reviewers complained about the low contrast of the set.last year i was very impressed with the demo of hx850.this year i went to demo w800 with the same expectations.but found picture not so impressive like hx 850.may be due to low contrast of w800.

IPS panels can't go deep on black levels and, in turn, affects the dynamic range. If LG sells then no reason why Sony should be dismissed. In fact W800 is better compared to LG.

@Dirac,
As I mentioned so far I have been watching only 720p/1080p/3D....picture quality is amazing. Played couple of 700MB avi dvd rips and they were looking good too. Infact they were really amazing.

@Sandesh,
Yes W800 has 3.5 audio jack.

@sdpo2007,
All the reviews and opinions of people suggest that HX850 is far more superior to w800.
W800 is replacement for HX750, W900 replacing HX850. According to Cnet reviews, the best black/contrast/PQ levels were produced on HX850. I believe now they are out of production as W900 will be coming in place of them.

shaiju_o_thomas,
Agreed, even though Sony uses same panel as LG for W800, the PQ is superior on Sony compared to LG's 6190.
I'm basing this on my knowledge having that both of these models are using IPS panels, but not entirely sure if the Panels affect PQ to that extent and also as I demoed both of them Sony had better PQ.

Sony w800 pic quality is way superior than LG 2013 models.

I did a demo today..asked salesman to increase the brightness to full, disable eco settings and he told these sets are running with brightness settings maxed up..lg's picture looked dull..
while sony w800 did blow my mind..its brightness is as good as hx850..colors are very good..
the low contrast which is a main drawback of IPS sony managed to do well with very good brightness levels.

W800 cannot be compared with HX850 or W900/w950 which have local dimming and a different panel type (VA). . HX850/W9* is in a different league.
If money is not issue then go for W9*.

Just now I watchced demo of LG 55LA6910 and Sony 55w800a

LG 55LA6910
Pros:
2d to 3d amazing depth
UI is coloful
Nice design
3d content has more depth
Cons:
Poor Picture quality even at max brightness (eco save off)
Menu is complex
motion flow not so great

Miracast have lot of jerks (tested with nexus 4)

Sony 55w800a
Pros:
Amazing PQ is awesome compared to LG
Nice design
UI is straight forward
Cons:
2d to 3d waste of time (zero depth nothing)
Miracat wont work (due to hdcp check)

LG has very very low brightness compared to Sony
Finally I decided to pick Sony KDL-42w800a

I also check KDL-42w650a not so great but it has only 2 HDMI and 1 USB
No Wifi
Motion flow is not so great

for additional 14000 I get Wifi 3d & best PQ in this range
So finally i choose KDL-42w800a

Final Price
Sony KDL-42w670a - Rs.59000
Sony KDL-42w800a - Rs. 73000
LG 42LA6910 - Rs. 85000 (no stock)

Any other suggestions?

I was having the same dilemma. I watched 55" w800 and LM7600 side by side @Croma Chennai. The LM7600 was dull alongside Sony's w800.
But since few of the expert websites gave thumbs up to LM7600 than w800 (in terms of PQ and Black Level), I chose the LG one. Also I'll be watching it in a pitch black dark room and so color reproduction and black levels are more important than brightness for me.

But AFAIK Sony's W800 is the best bang for buck the company has ever offered. I still crave for that bright, vibrant and sharp pictures of the Sony (or even better - the sammy's 7 series ones) at times. :( :(

Good luck on ur purchase.

Edit: Only the LM760T/7600 model from LG has deep black levels (~0.05) than Sony's. If you have some other model of LG in mind (like that of LA 6910) please go ahead with the Sony W800.

One need not worry at all when it comes to internal scalers to display low resolution videos on YouTube.
Sony's prowess is formidable, atleast in the premium sets.

Hi there,
As many of them have already mentioned previously including myself, it depends on your personal choices.

Sony for better PQ.
LG for better 2D to 3D conversion.
No idea about any other brands.

If you prefer better PQ I would suggest Sony, also it's 3D is none the less than LG but lacks heavily in 2D to 3D conversion. But if you are tending more towards 3D simply go for LG, cos if you look at 6190 it's PQ is good but not as much compared to Sony.

For me W800 is best, as I prefer more of a PQ and anyways I'm getting all the 3D movies in 1080p...so enjoying it a lot :)

Regarding w800's connectivity to WIFI, I still didn't do it, as I do not have Wifi. If you want I'll tether my Sony Experia Neo and check for it's connectivity but later in the evening.
